If truly what this article says the Patriots need to get a severe penalty. Belichik should be suspended for at least a season starting immediately and the team should be fined more than a million dollars have their salary cap cut ten million short and lose their first and second rd draft picks.
Gross over reactions per usual. There were some on these boards that were calling for Kraft to be forced to sell the team because he got a handjob. That Tom Brady should be suspended for the playoffs + for deflating footballs per Chris Mortenson and his bull shit reports.
This is ridiculous. It's silly - New England can easily prove their story, if it's true. This should be settled in a matter of a few hours, or maybe a few days given thoroughness. New England says it was an independent, contractor crew filming a documentary. Show the communication detailing instructions for the crew beforehand. Show the contract. Show the other documentary footage shot (I've worked in that job before - they would've shot at minimum other B roll footage). Show the evidence. It should be easy, if what NE is claiming is true, and this is just a procedure error.
They were filming the Bengals hand signals. What was the documentary about? How they lost a first rd draft pick and got hammered with a large fine?
The Saints have lost a significant contributor on their defensive line. New Orleans defensive end Marcus Davenport suffered a foot injury in Sunday’s loss to the 49ers and is expected to miss the rest of the season, NFL Network reports. Davenport has started all 13 games this season and played 61 percent of the Saints’ defensive snaps, as well as 21 percent of their special teams snaps. He has six sacks and three forced fumbles this season. The Saints were so high on Davenport in last year’s draft that they traded two first-round picks and a fourth-round pick to acquire him. Although he was a backup as a rookie, this year he was developing into a complete player and a major piece of the Saints’ defense. This is a big loss for a Super Bowl contender. source; PFT
The people alleging this are, reportedly, anonymous people at NFL.com who have seen the tape. That's just not a valuable account right now, and it muddies the waters. However, what New England is alleging is fairly straightforward and simple. They can prove it, if it's true. So this should all be really simple.
Earl is just lobbying to the officials. The way Lamar runs, he's going to get hit. Lamar Jackson needs to be very careful from here on out. Quite honestly, im surprised he hasn't suffered more serious injury already, but so far, so good.
I’m not sure that this is anywhere near as simple as you’re making it out to be. In the previous incident, the Patriots gave their film crews specific instructions to lie about what they were doing, and in this instance the film crew immediately tried to delete the footage before the league office had a chance to view it.
There have already been conflicting reports out. First it was reported that there was no sideline activity, then it was an entire quarter, now they are saying it was 8 minutes. What we know for sure is that it was filmed by Kraft’s production team and not the actual Patriots, that regardless of the truth the media will make this a big deal, and that this is something that shouldn’t have happened.
I found this line to be interesting - "inappropriately filmed the field from the press box," the Patriots also added that "the sole purpose of the filming was to provide an illustration of an advance scout at work on the road." Its as good as an admission to some form of guilt, but also an attempt or justification of why the crew was there in the first place. The fact the next game is against Cincinnati and the alleged attempt to delete possible evidence is enough to get a few eye brows raised and maybe warrant a deeper investigation. The reps from the Bengals have been quoted as 'irate' and fuming over this situation also, which, in my opinion doesn't bode well for the Patriots as the NFL higher-ups are basically forced to get to the bottom of this because of Cincinnati's concerns. If Cincy didn't care this may have been swept under a rug or maybe not getting the attention it is. When your on top, like the Patriots have been, everyone is scrutinizing you and looking for a way to dethrone you, so I would think the Patriots would or should have been more careful in the first place as there is a history here of alleged stuff against the Pats. Someone screwed up, I don't think that's a question, but to prove blatant cheating against the Patriots is whats at stake here and its early in the week so there must be stories to talk about also, lol. For me, im just kinda curiuos as to where the NFL starts with this investigation wise and if blatant foul play is proven, what course of punishment they take will be very interesting.
The NFL always attempts to use previous precedent to cover their own ass in these situations. I would think that a fine greater than 2007 and multiple draft picks are at stake. If it’s 8 straight minutes of the CIN sidelines then the Pats are fucked. If it at least gives the appearance of something other than taping signals then NE may have an out.
Exactly. New England could have set up fake stuff in advance and even made a real series as a front for this. As far-fetched as you may think it is, the previous scandal showed this was part of their idea so they honestly should get zero benefit of the doubt. They lost that right, even if they did nothing wrong. You could say "innocent until proven guilty" but if you know the way a jury, for instance, proves someone is guilty... this could honestly be enough evidence.
I don't get this. For all intents and purposes they are one entity here. This is not a situation where you can fine and punish the owner and the media company but leave the Patriots alone if anything is found. It's not a holding company loophole for tax and liability reasons like in the real world.
What befuddles me in this whole thing is why the Bengals? Why risk the negative optics and potential ramifications to gain a competitive advantage over a clearly inferior team? That's like trying to get a competitive advantage over the 2016 or 2017 Browns. I get that the Patriots are in a divisional dog fight for the first time this century, but . . . does anyone in their right mind think the Pat's need another advantage over the Bengals?
