The WR issue needs to be fixed over many years for sure even if Jeffery and Desean are fine. They are older after all. The team absolutely sucks at evaluating and developing WRs. Freaking crap. They need to work on the long term but they still need something for the short term. Alshon is the only ONLY WR they've tried getting in free agency in forever. Every other one has been returning camp bodies from the last forever. Management doesn't fucking get it. If they did they'd have brought in anybody decent. Seriously, outside Jeffery it's only been guys expected to stay 1 year and too old to develop. If this team gets rid of the top WRs for cap reasons and gets nobody worth a damn they will lose the team. Players will want out because they don't want to be part of it and that means everyone will need to be traded for pennies on the dollar. It will hurt the team more than it will help to completely go after new WRs from scratch. Not like the market is looking good this offseason if I'm not mistaken. LBs, healthy CBs, future S(depth) and WRs. Those are the main needs of this team. Those have been liabilities. They hold back the rest of the team. The problem is it's a lack of proper effort to secure those positions. Some of it is nickel and diming at key positions but overspending elsewhere. The Eagles didn't spend money this year to save for extensions. I don't know if it's smart or not yet. Until they wise up this team will be susceptible when injured at certain positions. CB/LB/WR have all been hit this year at pretty much the same time and it's all come together to give the team inconsistencies and lack of cohesiveness. IF they can just get healthy they have a chance to make a run but man it's becoming a bigger if. They rushed guys back earlier so they could reintegrate with the team but people got hurt again. At this point they don't care about chemistry, they just are delaying players so they can even play later in the season, like DeSean.
Wade Phillips? A 30-year assistant coach with a tepid (16-16) mark in two seasons as a head coach. Jason Garrett? ZERO head coaching experience. Dolphins QB coach for two years; Dallas' OC for three. Not a "big-name" hire - a guy they had been grooming for three years. I'd argue that the only "big-name" hire Jerruh made after JJ's departure has been Bill Parcells...and, quite frankly, that was the right move.
With a win: The Eagles can take their first-ever lead in their all-time series against the Giants. The Eagles can drop Manning’s career starting record below .500 to 116-117.
Copy pasta from what I posted to clear up some idiots on an Eagles board (my first post since September when I was kicked from the survivor pool): Only 3 ways Eagles win the division not counting ties. 1. Win out 2. Beat Dallas, lose 1 game and the Cowboys lose to Washington. 3. Dallas beats Eagles, Eagles win every other game and Cowboys lose every other game. NOTHING else works thanks to tiebreakers.
If you hear the podcast I still say the Eagles probably have the inside track because it's at home but then go on to say that they can't afford to lose another one though while the Cowboys can and that while they should win vs the Giants(x2) and Redskins.... they did just lose to the Dolphins.
If the Dolphins were playing the Giants or Redskins I would expect an fairly easy Dolphins win actually at this point in the season.
You can't seriously be worried that Eli is a bigger threat to beat the Eagles than Jones can you? I am no Jones stan but Eli hasn't beaten the Eagles in his last 5 tries. The defense is absolute garbage. The offense is garbage and the scheme is designed for, well, not Eli Manning. His last two seasons as a starting QB he didn't seem able to see what was going on more than 5 yards past the LOS. I love Eli for what he has done for the Giants but he has looked finished since 2016 and seriously declining since 2014. He just doesn't have it. Now that said if this jerk comes out and knocks the Giants out of a top 3 pick and saves Shurmur/Gettleman's jobs I seriously may never forgive him.
The Giants have absolutely no fight left in them... Players are starting to show cracks. Carl Banks, a franchise legend and team employee is calling out this coaching stuff publicly. Flores looks like a good coach with a bad roster. I would expect him to be able to beat Shurmur's team 10 out of 10 times. Hell you could switch rosters and I'd still expect Flores to win.
he also missed a year due to injury. if you gamble on that - it better work out. it didn't. seems like it happens a lot. like Danny Watkins? a firemen or some bullshit from Canada they took in the high second rd or late first rd ? EL BUSTO. Hey Dallas gambled on that stud Jaylon Smith and it worked out for them as his injury was just a freak injury. Jones has been a disaster. And when you draft Zeke and Dak, you can afford a missed draft pick if Smith didn't work out. He did work out. The Eagles have a ton of players like Jones who didn't and aren't working out. Small difference to me.
That post you quoted was in reference to the Dolphins. I honestly am not worried but after the Dolphins I can't look ahead to Dallas (or Washington) really.
If I had my druthers I would bring in Rhule. The guy is a builder -- more than anything that's what the Giants need right now. Someone who can build this thing from the ground up. Rivera is "safe and predictable" which is Gettleman's absolutely favorite characteristic. He is also a good coach so I wouldn't be mad about a Gettleman move for once. McCarthy? I'd send another nasty gram to John Mara. It makes me feel better to do that from time to time. The guy apparently reads a few fan letters every day just like his dad. I just keep hoping one day he will pull mine...
