The immovable object vs the irresistible force, or the Baltimore Ravens vs the San Francisco 49ers. Which ever way you want to call it, we're scheduled for what should be a great game today that features a lot of interesting matchups. The Ravens #2 overall offense (in yards, #1 in points) will host the 49ers #1 overall defense (in yards, #2 in points allowed). This is a lot of strength vs strength, and there's even more. Lamar Jackson's passer rating is #3 in the NFL, the 49ers' defense's passer rating allowed is #2. The Ravens are #1 in 3rd down conversions, the 9ers defense is #2 is 3rd down conversions allowed. ETC. But there's also some strength vs weakness that will occur today. The Ravens rush offense is on a historic path, threatening to be the best all time in total yards in a season. They aren't just taking advantage of bad run defenses though, they are running over good run defenses as well. The Houston Texans and LA Rams were 5th and 4th in rush yards allowed per game before playing the Ravens in the last two weeks. They are now #17 and #16 after being gashed for 256 and 285 yards on the ground. This rushing dominance is part of the Lamar Jackson effect. The 49ers come into the game ranked as the 19th best run defense. Things could get ugly if not for an natural equalizer that's set to occur today.......rain. The slick field conditions could lead to a lot of slipping and sliding around. It's supposed to benefit running teams, but I question that if the o-line can't get their footing to block the best d-line in football, or if Lamar or the RBs can't make that one cut without sliding. Finally, there's the 49ers offense vs the Ravens defense. This is one matchup that's not getting a lot of air time. The 49ers run game is #2 in the NFL while Baltimore's run defense is #3. San Fran's offense is also #2 overall in scoring and #6 in yards. The Ravens defense is #5 overall in scoring and #10 in yards. Baltimore has come a long way defensively since those meltdowns in weeks 3 and 4. In fact, since week 7 when Marcus Peters arrived, Baltimore has been the #1 overall defense. This game just has a lot of interesting matchups to watch. Will the 49ers be the team that ends the Ravens NFL leading win streak or will Baltimore run over yet another opponent? We'll find out in a few short hours. LET'S GO, RAVENS!!!
There's also the speculation that the 49ers defense will go after Lamar on every read option play. Some feel that whether he keeps the ball or hands it off, there will be at least one player looking to hit him regardless. I guess we could see how the Ravens and Lamar Jackson respond to that strategy.
I can’t believe that the Steelers game is on in more of the country than a possible SB preview. This game should have been moved to prime time
Need the Ravens to win this thing. That sets up the showdown next week for the Niners/Saints in NOLA for all the marbles in the NFC. Another game that was not flexed to Sunday night.
Lamar better have all his padding on today, because Bosa and company do love to hit the QB, on a lot of plays, coming close to drawing flags quite a bit of time. He is pretty smart though and if he needs to beat them with his arm today, I believe he can do it. This game will be close, it will be hard hitting, it will be awesome, GL today Ravens!
Even if it's too late to flex it, at least broadcast it nationally. The NFL/networks are going to hear about this.
Just got in, don't tell me that Marlon is hurt seriously...... the Ravens can ill afford to lose that man
49er's showing their defensive chops on that first drive. the LB Warner made a hell of a play taking away the ball from Hollywood.... Lamar didn't lead him quite enough, then he had to throw it away on 3rd down as the defense took away all options... It is not gonna be an easy day boys.
