I agree with Will............he will not apologies.......because he is right...........BUT in today's society your not allowed to say it or you get the Racist Tag.

 

My dad had three brothers in WW2, that's another story lol. They were all in Africa, one of my uncles was a POW in England and ended up living there for 11 years before he came here. Another one was awarded a gold cross for living in the ocean for 11 days after his plane was shot down.

 

Ron McClean was quick to apologize so he could save his ass, lol.

People die in wars so we can have our freedoms... Cherry can say any damn thing he wants and people can choose to agree or not, it should be that simple, but a lot of people, if not the majority in Canada and the States are afraid to be real or just too damn stupid to realize this.

 

Right or wrong may be up to the interpretor in this case, but he surely has the right to his opinion... hats off to Grapes and all the Veterans.

 

The point a lot of people were making was that the poppy falls off. A lot of Canadian born people weren't wearing poppies either.

 

The Royal Canadian Legion are always at Wal-marts, Home Depots and grocery stores in areas with a high percentage of immigrants. They wouldn't keep going there every year if people weren't buying poppies.

I only just watched his "rant" now. Seriously? It was a bit insensitive but singling out the immigrants was not the way to go. Most people haven't been in a war. Just make it everyone and there is no issue. I feel like the network just wanted a reason to let him go without it being awkward on their end (like refusing to sign an extension).

 

It's a sad day, I've been watching him coach and work on HNIC my whole life.

 

I hope he gets a show somewhere, if even on the web... he's great and like what you said, skinny... he's been a part of my hockey world forever.

You know Maclean threw him under the bus in the end to save his job.

 

That's what I meant when I said he was trying to save his own ass. Nobody has come forward to defend Cherry... just to blast him.

 

They probably sat Ron down and told him that either he publicly apologizes or he's a goner too.

I don't think that he was racist, I just think he speaks like he's from another time. He was a big Kadri supporter, he was dedicated to minor league hockey in Canada. He used language that doesn't fit in with the times and his attack although had elements of truth is something you just can't say on tv in 2019.

He lives in an area which doesn't resemble smaller cities where a majority of the people that live there have direct relatives that fought for Canada in WW1 and WW2.

As I pointed out earlier, it's a generational thing as well. As the years go on and the world wars fade into the distant, there will be less and less people wearing the poppies, traditions unfortunately die over time.
