Four: Break out your Google fingers and you'll discover that every year Ohio State plays at least one other state sponsored university. (Bowling Green, Akron, Miami [OH], Toledo, Youngstown, Ohio Univerity, etc.) The reason is, they all receive some funding from the tax payers of Ohio. None of them have an athletic program the generates as much money as Ohio State's. Years ago the state legislature passed a statute requiring Ohio State to schedule and play at least one other State sponsored university from within Ohio in order to share some athletic revenue with other tax payer supported institutions. That statute has long expired, yet, Ohio State continues to this day to continue that practice.

It should be noted that all are Division I schools. Most play in the Mid America Conference (MAC). NONE are the size of Wofford.

3- i said they would play the bottomfeeders and also play the top teams on a rotating basis - same as the ACC.

2-in 2000 they wanted to join but words were said by the Michigan AD and they stayed away. The other time was much earlier and before the 1990's i believe.

1-you tied in the weak ass ACC to ND playing the ACC and their 5 easy wins. Will added to that as well. My point is every conference has good and bad teams. The ACC is no different. ND also schedules USC, UGA, UM and Stanford and bc Stanford and USC are having down years it's ND plays no one from the haters. Not you Lyman, but a ton of people are saying that.

well one year i stated they opened with 2 of them. Clemson should be embarrassed to play Wofford. Just like UF and Florida A&M years ago. Everyone does it. ND has to schedule some lighter teams outside of the ACC, so they do it with Navy, New Mexico, etc. Again no one says shit about the other schedules, but the moment ND loses to a top ranked team it's "their schedule sucks and they can't beat anyone!" Their schedule is more than fair.

and yeah Lyman who are an ND alum but do you ever support them on here? not really. you're more against them than anyone else. and you have an OSU banner under your avatar, not ND. i think that shows your loyalties.

ND said no to the Big 10 bc of the schedule and their indy status. I can't fault them for that, especially when the ACC gave it to them. Why would they join the Big 10 and lose it?

damn im old. the last of the Holtz era and the last time they really had a solid offense. Holtz won or lost a lot of big games but at least his teams showed up. Kelly, Weis, Davie and Willingham had some teams that never showed up. I could always count on Holtz dialing up the offense to win a big game. 1988 vs Miami! Could Brian Kelly the Canes? Hell no. He just doesn't have it like Holtz did. I miss old Lou.

The vast majority of my undergraduate course work was taken in the state of Ohio (mostly in evening courses after I was discharged from the Air Force). Throughout that entire period of time, I was a Buckeye fan. I then took a job in Indiana about 30 miles south of Notre Dame and finished the last semester and a half (again attending school at night). In the six dreadful years I lived in northern Indiana, I supported the Fighting Irish (during the Jerry Faust era I might add) but I remained a Buckeye at heart.

Notre Dame has a long and distinguished history. Back in the days of Knute Rockne, Frank Leahy and Ara Parseghian, they were the equivalent of today's Alabama. If there was an up and coming program somewhere, Notre Dame would go out of their way to make sure that program was on their schedule. Today? Not so much. The fact is - they had the opportunity to align themselves with any conference in the country and chose the ACC.

You mentioned "words from the Michigan AD" that prompted Notre Dame to turn down the offer from the Big 10. The fact is the Michigan AD said the same shit about every team the Big 10 approached because he didn't want to change the "big 8 little 2" make up of the conference. Turns out he was right.

I'm not here to change your position. Because you don't have a position - you have a stance. Positions are flexible. Stances are not.

    THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

I met Jerry Faust! He came to my grade school in 1985! I wasn't an ND fan then. I didn't know who he was or how bad of a coach he was! Haha. He signed my notebook though!

Surprised they let you transfer in so late? 6 years? Yikes. No wonder you wear Red and White!

Stances are flexible. I see the same shit on Facebook about ND and their schedule when these people are front running Bama fans all of a sudden or PSU fans the moment they crack the top 10. To me that's bullshit. I've been a long suffering ND fan since 1987. I stick with them through the good, the bad, the numerous hiring of coaches, their scandals, their schedule - light or not and the polls. I don't waver in my fandom. To me and this is my stance - all teams have easy teams on the schedule, not just ND. The ACC as I showed was willing to give ND what they wanted - to keep their indy status and play 5 or 6 ACC schools. The Big 10 wasn't willing to do that. That's it.

The NBC-ND has been dwarfed in the last 10 years by the CBS, ABC and ESPN tie-ins and attachments to the Big 10, Pac 10 and the almighty SEC. ND made a ton of money prior to 2010 on their TV deal, but these conferences are laughing now at their own TV deals with the other networks are bigger than the NBC ND deal.

Clemson should be embarrassed to even schedule Wofford.

If you knock on pretty much any college's door with money in hand and decent enough grades, they will admit you. Not every credit hour transferred. I had a "few" repeat courses.

Yep. 6 years. Mind you I had a full time job (that included significant travel) and a wife and 2 children that deservedly got some attention. And then, not every course I still needed was available when I could schedule it. I also spent the 1st two years acclimating myself in the new job (my first as a department head). The only reason I spent 6 years in that shithole area of the country was because I was so close to finishing my education and didn't cherish the idea of transferring - again - and repeating even more classes.

And it's "Scarlet and Gray" :rally:

I believe that was my original point.

My dad did the same thing. Got out of the military worked full time and went to school at night for about 6 years at night. That’s how I discovered MNF as a child

NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders a candidate for FSU job...

Prime Time could be heading back to Tallahassee.

Hall of Fame cornerback and NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders has emerged as a candidate for the Florida State head coaching job, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported Thursday night, per sources connected to the university.

Florida State relieved former coach Willie Taggart of his duties on Sunday after less than two seasons at the helm and is in the midst of a coaching search.

Sanders' connection to the Seminoles' athletic program runs deep. He played football, baseball and track at Florida State from 1986 through 1988, earning consensus All-American honors in '87 and '88 and the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back in '88. Sanders' No. 2 jersey was retired at Doak Campbell Stadium in 1995.

A two-time Super Bowl champion and six-time first-team All-Pro, Sanders was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

Sanders currently works as an analyst for NFL Network, where he hosts NFL GameDay Prime every Sunday night at 11:30 p.m. ET during the season.

^^^ what experience does he have to be a major div 1 college coach? this isn't HS man. that seems crazy to hire someone with no coaching experience.

Potential first overall pick Chase Young sidelined amid NCAA investigation

Last year, Ohio State star pass rusher Nick Bosa suffered an injury early in the season and decided to walk away from college football right then and there. It didn’t hurt his future prospects at all, as he was the second overall pick in the draft and is now the favorite to win the defensive rookie of the year award with the 49ers.

This year, Ohio State star pass rusher Chase Young may also find himself leaving school early — and it also likely won’t have any bearing on his future prospects.

Young, who is considered by many to be the best prospect at any position in the 2020 NFL draft, will be sidelined for Saturday’s game against Maryland amid an investigation of a potential NCAA rules violation. It’s unclear how much longer he might have to sit out, but Ohio State announced that he will miss at least one game “due to a possible NCAA issue from 2018 that the Department of Athletics is looking into.”

While that’s very bad news for Ohio State in its pursuit of a national championship, it won’t have any bearing on Young. NFL teams have shown in recent years that once a player has put enough on tape to establish himself as an elite prospect, they don’t particularly care if he cuts his college career short. Whether that’s because of an injury like Bosa, or whether it’s one of the many top draft prospects who have skipped their teams’ bowl games, it just isn’t an issue.

In fact, Young might be better off not playing college football anymore. He’s already established himself as a high pick — perhaps the first overall pick, depending on whether or not the team drafting first decides to take a quarterback — and by continuing to play he’d only subject himself to injury.

So for fans of college football in general and Ohio State in particular, there are plenty of reasons to hope Young can get the NCAA situation cleared up and get back on the field. But for Young, his future is bright whether he’s played his last game as a Buckeye or not.

Is it a prerequisite to must have a history of coaching? He has to start somewhere and all the article is stating is that he is a candidate. He has a good resume and would be a great recruiter... besides, Head Coach's are only as good as the staff they surround themselves with. Im sure he would have lots of help in that regard.

^^^^^ then why don't you see more ex-players coaching Will? Was Nick Saban a great player? No. Coaching is different than playing. You need a certain knack for coaching and you build your resume at the small pee-wee and High School levels before moving onward, not get thrown to the wolves at a major college for your first job. What the hell does Deion know about academic requirements, test scores, student applications, recruiting trips etc? Hell, there are plenty of coaches who do have the experience and are still bad coaches. At least they have experience in coaching. Deion has 0.
