Your're right about scheduling cupcakes. Georgia scheduled Notre Dame as one of their early season cupcakes.
https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...-on-the-outside-looking-in-behind-penn-state/ Clemson behind PSU now in the rankings. Not so sure I agree with their logic and Penn State's "big" wins. haha.
i thought the Michigan AD in 2000 had some harsh words for ND and then bitched about money bowl disbursement and the whole thing fell apart?
The B1G wanted Notre Dame, it would have been lucrative to have them and their brand, but as long as the CFP excepts 'independents' Notre Dame is cashing in on their own. When or if the CFP decides the National Champion has to come from a Conference that is recognized, then and only then would Notre Dame consider dropping their independence. For now, the Irish can enjoy the best of both worlds, play 5 games against the ACC and still vie for a National Championship title... that's what pisses a lot of people off.
I Saw the 1976 gator bowl in person. Norte Dame won 20-9 over the Penn State Nittany Lions. It was the first football game I went to in person joe Montana was the Fighting Irish's QB then
so does everyone else. they ALL have to win out or go 11-1 to be in the playoffs. have we seen all the teams involved with 2 or more losses? nope. playoffs come down to winning. ND not excluded.
and you forgot Will and play top teams like Georgia and this year Michigan. How do people forget so easily how good USC and Stanford were just a few years ago? Va Tech was no slouch either when Beamer coached there. Everyone points to the 5 ACC games as laughable. Ok, what about Michigan and Georgia? USC and Stanford? Clemson just played Wofford! Who is worse-USC or Wofford? Stanford or Wofford? Hell, I recall Florida with Tebow playing Florida A&M, a Division II school in November! Real tough! Clemson, UNC, FSU and Miami are very solid to play and rotate in the rest of the ACC plus USC and Stanford. Hell they added UGA and UM this year for kicks. If ND went to the Big 10, they would rotate and still play Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern, Illinois, Minnesota, Mich St and Maryland. They are a tad better than the ACC schools ND plays on a rotation. Then it would get much tougher with OSU, UM, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and PSU. So people are mad at ND for giving themselves a chance with the ACC deal and their own scheduling? Why? Because it's not tough enough? Hogwash. USC and Stanford will be back to being good and they will stay on the ND schedule. Same for FSU. Oh and they played Miami and got whooped on the road too. Their schedule is more than fair. And ND isn't cashing in like before. Before their new agreement, they were cashing in. They would go to a bowl game and take half the pot. the other school would split their half with their conference. THAT pissed people off. Their new deal is a fraction of the bowl money now. They don't even get half of the pot now. More like 25% and the other school and conference get the rest. So who really wins out now?
Yes, so, they would get better cred for playing a B1G schedule also. What is your point exactly? Does your post have anything to do with what I posted? Can you address or counter what I posted?
yes for their 6-7 home games. NBC signed it years ago when NBC lost a lot of other televised sporting venues to other networks. They needed the ND money as other money was headed out the door.
i did counter your post. for the lame ACC schedule everyone claims, ND could play the lower 6 lame ducks of the Big 10 and people would still bitch about it. People just don't like ND and will complain no matter who they play and turn a blind eye to the Clemson vs Wofford games. My point is FSU, UNC and Miami are having down years. Normally they are very solid, so the ACC, while having several bad teams, also has good teams much like the big 10, just a little lesser. Everyone just thinks the ACC is a pushover for ND getting an automatic 5-6 wins a year. Not true, because they forget their other opponents like UGA, UM, USC and Stanford. so it's not 5 ACC wins and they're in the Big 4 for the NC. That's not true at all. It's the ACC schedule and 6 other opponents like UM, UGA, USC and Stanford. Not that easy. That's my point. years ago OSU were reigning NC. Their first 3 games were against Akron, Youngstown St and someone else who stunk. To me that is far worse than the ACC.
Back up, Buttercup. One, I wasn't bashing Notre Dame. I'm a fucking alum !!! I was bashing Clemson and the weak ass ACC. Two, the fact is - Notre Dame CHOSE to not join the Big 10 (twice) because they didn't want to give up sole possession of the NBC TV contract and share TV revenue with the rest of the Big 10. Three - You're assuming ND would only play the Big 10 bottom feeders. Doesn't work that way.
