I can’t see the image on my phone, so here it is (tried to fix it? If it doesn’t come up it’s a pic I snapped of the halftime stats): Your 2019 Chicago bears. Honestly the worst part about all of this is the Mack trade coming back to bite us. That 1st rounder we gave the Raiders is very likely going to be top 10. I love Mack but that price got a lot higher after this season.
I said it routinely at the time the Mack trade was made: The cost of the trade would be irrelevant if Trubisky was a good QB. The cost of the trade would be crippling if Trubisky was a bad QB. I said that the trade had to happen because we'd be screwed either way, in the latter case, and that Pace would be gone should Trubisky and the team fail. We find ourselves in that same position, except that Pace will still be here. And that's a problem, to me. It's the only part of the equation that doesn't make sense.
I can't see the image on my work desktop. As far as the Mack trade, I've always said time will tell whether we won or lost the trade. Still too early, but if the Raiders land a stud with our 1st round pick in 2020 (in addition to the one they've already landed with our pick last year), while we go another couple years of missing the playoffs, they will without question have won the deal.
Only thing not right here was underplaying just how fucking dumb this ownership would be. Giving an extension to a guy off the back of 1 good season. 1 out of 4. Who even with a 12win season was still way under .500 at 26-38. Those stupid fucks.
It's not about what Pace can or can't do. It's about what the Raiders did with their haul vs what we did with our haul. Getting one playoff appearance and one dominant year with Mack vs 2 high quality starters for an ascending Raiders team. If that's the outcome, we lost the deal.
Yup. Bingo. To give an extension to a guy who handcuffed your franchise to his QB without knowing whether that QB was any good... Every move Pace has made has been made on the premise that Trubisky would at least be good enough. Everything was "win now", and would've worked with Trubisky being average to above average. Problem is, Trubisky has never show an affinity for that in his playing time, college or pro. So, now the team is stuck with minimal draft capital and a dire need for a new QB. And Pace gets to steer us through it again. Ugh.
Classic behavior of a loser franchise. Ownership and fans get sky high after one good regular season and it buys the organization several more years of futility before they have to hold themselves accountable to save face. The standards for both ownership and fans are so low that one good season is all they need to continue to coast.
Its also about what we would've done with our haul if it wasn't the Raiders haul. That's part of the calculation and its absolutely about what Pace can and can't do. You had faith in Pace with those picks? I sure as hell didn't. So then a known commodity stud at a position of great need(a need partly cos of previous Pace fail in addressing that in the 1st round) becomes a far more viable move. But surely you're assuming the Bears wind up with 2 high quality starters if they keep the picks right? Why are we assuming this? I see no evidence to support such a position, other than maybe the law of averages bailing Pace out but id rather not bring coin flips into this personally. If you're not interested in what Pace would've done with the picks then it purely becomes a pissing contest of who won the trade us or them. I honestly don't give two fucks who the Raiders draft, it means nothing to me. If the pundits want to say the Raiders won that trade, fine whatever. Zero fucks donated from me.
No I don't have faith in Pace either. But that doesn't mean this trade is automatically a win for us because Mack is better than any two players Pace would have picked. You have to factor how well we made out overall vs how well the Raiders made out. So it doesn't matter if the Raiders were, hypothetically, to draft two future HOFers? Yes, it is partly a pissing contest, otherwise, based on your logic we've already won the deal since Mack is better than whoever Pace drafts. I get what you're saying about not caring about who the Raiders draft, but in fact it does matter when making the comparison. Otherwise, don't even make the comparison (i.e. partake in the pissing contest). Edit: And you aren't making the comparison. But I and others are, although you're approach is probably better.
think I fixed it bud? Refresh. To the thread, if we are at the point where we think Pace would blow the picks no matter what, this is straight up Jerry Angelo territory. If the boos at Soldier field are any indication, no, this fandom has had enough. I don’t think they’ve got several years of futility allowed at this rate the money coming in, which is all the McCaskeys care about is going to start to ebb in a game or two. We are in full on Trestman territory somehow, and it’s mind fucking blowing. That schedule doesn’t get easier. where I will slightly agree, is the Bears are going to pick up some wins against teams they have no business winning against, especially when the season is officially out of reach. It’s THAT shit that will keep the crap train rolling. I for one am fucking done, though I’ll continue to watch the condensed games. Not giving a dime to the franchise directly.
Yes, Pace is Jerry Angelo. He has brought several absolutely horrendous, embarrassing QB's to this team. He has hit on some mid-late round gems that gets everyone all excited and in his corner. And he has absolutely routinely blown early round picks without abandon. Meanwhile, he's been bandaging draft woes with unsustainable FA pickups. Yes, he's bad. New guy same as the old guy.
I'm glad the boos have been raining down. The fan base should be fed up. But typically we get too high and excited and start "crowing their asses" at the slightest amount of success and I think the ownership picks up on that and feeds off it. We trade for Jay Cutler, everyone assumes we're about to embark on a sustained run of excellence. We resign Cutler after 2013 season, everyone picks us to win the division in 2014. We have one good year under Nagy, automatically we're going to be a Super Bowl contender in 2020. This team is incapable of stringing together winning seasons. It's a fact. Since 1995 we have only had back to back winning seasons ONE FRICKING TIME (05-06). We should never rush to crown this sorry ass team until they can really prove things have turned around year after year.
If that were to happen, yes I admit it would grate a bit. But it honestly wouldn't eat me up. It prob would if I had any belief in the guy doing the drafting for the Bears, but I don't, so I can let it go. Now not taking Watson? That ones gonna eat me up. Hell it does already everytime I watch him play. Guy's a baller. Basically yes. Mack alone is more impactful than whatever Pace would've done drafting himself, that's my personal opinion. Also, its entirely possible for both teams to win from a trade, that's what so many people(not saying you) don't get. It isn't actually us v them. Every FF league ive ever been in I always make the most trades, usually very successfully, cos unlike most players out there im not trying to hose the other guy. It isn't me v him, if anything its us v the rest of the league. The Mack trade can have two winners, but some don't. For instance the trade up for Trubisky, clear winner. Because it was so unnecessary. And all of the value for that move lay on the 49ers side. And it was for a completely unknown commodity(unlike Mack). That's one where there was a clear winner, even tho both teams ended up drafting busts, ironically. Pace got absolutely hosed in that deal.
Man I saw some of the most depressing shit on twitter yesterday. Someone posted some coverage from the 100th season pep rally the Bears had when they invited all the old greats back and had them convo on stage about the history of the team and where it was heading coming off last season. Hicks gave a motivational speech on how the D accepted the challenge to be great. McMahon gave Trubisky a head band and some shades. Good times. Fast forward to where we are now. Fucking embarrassing.
I don't care about Pace....so long as the McCaskey's run this team the team will suck balls. Bottom line.
Did you see the TD pass he through in the red zone after he refused to go down last week and took a cleat to the face that drew blood in the process? An epic play.
While I admit a few games ago the boo birds got to me, I have ZERO issues with the booing when they couldn’t get the TD against the Chargers after that half. I was listening to Waddle and Silvy yesterday and Silvy went on a massive rant on how BAD this offense is. To set historical records for when we have the likes of Quinn and krenzel etc in our past is ducking shocking. If you can see the pic now, that’s the kind of shit that will be on the “why your team sucks” page next year. they also said it’s hard as every week we all know it’s the same shit over and over again. Nagy gives platitudes, there are lots of issues. Waddle made an excellent point, the Bears offense was this bad last year, outside of a few games. The big difference was the defense was scoring. This years defense is a step down.
I admit I was guilty about buying into Trubs and Nagy purely off the basis of two great offensive games last year: Detroit and Tampa. But you're right, even 41 points against the Bills was a pretty lackluster game from Trubisky, as was the Jets, Vikings, Packers, Rams, Dolphins (good numbers but devastating red zone INT). We really only had 2 great games last year, and maybe one or two other "good" ones.
