    Another week, another non-guarantee guarantee.

Meeting with reporters on Thursday, receiver Jarvis Landry declared regarding Sunday’s game at New England: “We’re going to win.”

Via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Landry quickly clarified his comments, saying that he meant to say that the Browns are “going there to win.”

Eagles coach Doug Pederson made a similar remark last week before taking the position that it wasn’t a guarantee that Philadelphia would beat Dallas. Landry isn’t trying to thread that needle; he’s simply saying that he didn’t mean to say that the Browns will win.

That’s a smart play by Landry. Few expect the Browns to beat the Patriots. Indeed, the oddsmakers have installed New England as 13-point favorites.

These undisciplined MOGOLOIDS cant help themselves . Quit running your Goddam,n mouths!!! You have done nothing this year but run your annoying fucking mouths . you have been smacked in it and yet you morons still YAP . STFU!!!!!!

That's half the quote. Jarvis later clarified that was the mindset - going (there) to win.

Walk-backs notwithstanding, good for Jarvis. New England hasn't played a single team worth a damn, so let's see what happens Sunday.

I don't know if soft is the right word. I think they were smelling themselves, and I'm not sure they've stopped, even now. I keep hearing how they "know they're a better team". Really? Well how about strapping it on and showing it

Apparently I don't know how to "reply" to posts, so here's another attempt.

    Bluez:
Point 1: Dorsey - Arrogant, yeah sure. Made his mistake last year in Corbett, and doubled down this year, then weakened the questionable unit in the trade w NY. He's had laurels thrown at his feet for his off season dealing, but.......

Point2: OBJ - Diva, yapping? OK he is a Diva, but honestly I don't see where he's ever hurt the team with any of his nonsense. Now if you want to talk catches, well there's the incredible, and the oops. He and Baker aren't yet in sync, and given how out of sync the team is, I can't hang that on him.

Point 3: Freddie - Over his head? Yep! The Fat part is irrelevant, and he is a rookie HC, as you pointed out. Frankly if they had won game 1, as they should have, I'm not sure we'd be so critical, at 3 and 3. I'm still in his corner, but if he doesn't stop the penalties, and start making better O calls, my patience will wane.

Point 4: Baker - STFU! 100% agree on that. Hey Baker, have you ever heard a QB who won the game, bitch about the refs????. It's a losers lament, and having thrown 3 INTs in that game, I think you should accept that your role may have been more than that of the refs. Not to dissagree on the quality of the officiating, but "who cares", and more importantly, how about showing the team that if you play better the refs don't matter.

That's what I wanted to say in my first response, but failed to do it right.

Not the first time Jarvis has guaranteed a win vs the Pats. Guess how the first time went for him.

Read SAS's post again, Matty. Jarvis didn't guarantee a win (as in "We're going to win"), he said, "We're going there to win. What would you expect an NFL player to say? "We're going there to lose?"

I believe he guaranteed that the Browns would win and then at a later time he clarified his previous comment. Maybe he was speaking in generalities when he was talking about the team winning, maybe he wasn’t. Putting himself in a position to have to speak on it again is plain stupid either way.
Everything Patriot-related becomes a big story, it sucks but it’s how it is.
He actually guaranteed two wins vs NE in 2017 so perhaps he’s improving?

    Thank you.
Hoping you also congratulate me and all Pats fans when we earn a first round bye, while having played a division winner schedule.

I personally don't put much stock/concern in the 'soft schedule' argument. Regardless of schedule, come playoff time the Patriots beat up on the best from the AFC, then they wreck the best from the NFC in a little thing called the Super Bowl.

The local reporter that published that quote admitted she got it wrong the 1st time. She has history of that around here in order to generate clicks. Unfortunately, most of the local correspondents assigned to cover the Browns are the same way.

At any rate . . . Good luck to both teams. Here's hoping the game is free of injuries!

Newton's third law: "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."

Every time one team wins, one team loses. (A tie is the literal proof of Newton's 3rd law.) When a team is having success in a given time frame , one HAS to look at the relative success of the teams they have played. The way I do this is to look at the combined W/L record of the teams they have played.

    NOTE:
A few seasons ago (when the Browns, at the time, were 0-6) I stated the Browns' had one of the hardest opponents schedule in the NFL based their opponents combined W/L record. It was correctly pointed out to me that the opponents combined W/L record was inflated due to including those 6 wins against the Browns. The opposite is also true. If the Browns would have been 6-0, their opponents combined W/L record would have been deflated by including those 6 losses to the Browns. Ever since then, when I calculate a team's opponents combined W/L record, it doesn't include games involving that team.

Let's look at the teams perceived to be the worst two teams in the NFL today. Both Cincinnati and Miami are winless (0-7 and 0-6 respectively).

    • Cincinnati's opponents are 22-16-1 (0.577) in games not involving the Bengals. Rank = 9
    • Miami's opponents are 18-17-0 (0.514) in games not involving the Dolphins. Rank = 16
Now, let's look at the teams perceived to be the two best teams in the NFL today. Both New England and San Francisco are undefeated (7-0 and 6-0 respectively).
    • New England's opponents are 11-20-0 (0.355) in games not involving the Patriots. Rank = 29
    • San Francisco's opponents are 11-22-0 (0.333) in games not involving the Dolphins. Rank = 31
How can anyone attempt to gauge how good or bad a team is without considering the level of their opponents?
