Players we should consider trading

We know there's zero chance to win the Super Bowl given the QB situation this year. With barely any cap space and little draft capital, it will be hard for us to plug some of the holes on this roster for next year, notably the QB. Patg got me thinking about this on another thread... we can start mitigating this problem by trading some of the talent we do have in exchange for lower round (4-7) picks and shedding some salary at the same time. And by trading these players we won't hurt our chances in the long-run because they are either replaceable, aging, and really haven't contributed much in 2019 to begin with.

Here's who we should be shopping before the trade deadline:
    - Burton
    - Gabriel
    - Tarik Cohen
    - Anthony Miller
    - Dix
    - Prince
    - Patterson
    - Shaheen

In a perfect world, all of them would be traded and we would have accumulated 8 additional draft picks for 2020 and some much needed cap space.

    Who else?

Robinson is due $15 million next year, and is UFA after that. I would think, as good as he is, that would be a prime contract to give away if the team really is done with the season.

The team exercised Floyd's fifth year option, so they'll be paying him $15 mil next year, unless he's cut (I genuinely don't know if that amount is guaranteed). If they can unload him, that would be a worthwhile reduction to the cap, as well.

I don't think this team needs to be blown up. I think this team needs to get a legitimately average NFL QB in here, from one of these sinking teams with a guy that can't put them over the top. Or, a guy that shows promise on another team that can be had for little capital while the team drafts someone.

That said, it should have been identified that Trubisky wasn't going to get it done, and someone else brought in BEFORE the season seemed to start slipping away. The season isn't halfway over, but it doesn't need to go much longer if the losses start piling up. Pace and Nagy should have been on this before the season started. No excuses.

I wouldn't trade Amukamara. He's 30 and he's playing the best football of his life right now. And there's no replacement for him on the roster right now.

Gabriel can go but Miller is worth keeping. As is Cohen.

The problem is key buyers already got their guys. Pats gave a 2nd for Sanu, and they needed a WR.

Texans paid up for Garon Conley, a dB they were in need of.

49ers trades for Emmanuel Sanders and they are off the market.

The eagles need a DB and an intermediary receiver as they have injuries. They only want to give up a 5th though, as They lost out on Emmanuel sanders. They are the only buyer I see left. A quick google search of nfl trade rumors and the only other thing I saw was Browns looking for a tackle.

The Bills are definitely buyers. Specifically, at WR. Nothing radical, but if they can find a seller at the cost of, let’s say a 5th, they’ll do it. Beane has been very active since he took over both buying and selling.

I'm looking ahead to 2020 and beyond. Prince has been serviceable this year, but he is replaceable and aging, may as well grab some value for him now.

Right now I'd take a 5th for Gabriel. Preferably higher since Sanu went for a 2nd.

  7. EvertonBears M.V.P. Bears

No offense to the OP, but you've got 1 maybe 2 players there that another team would be prepared to pay any draft capital for. And when I say draft picks, im talking last 2 rounds, so whats the point? Ok sure, if a team comes in for Gabriel with a 4th or 5th rounder then yes. The Patriots lost their minds and paid a 2nd for Sanu so I guess anythings possible.

It would be a shame to ship PA now he's finally playing like he's worth a crap. But he is 31 next season so yeah. Problem is I don't see anyone making it worth the Bears while.

But honestly, picking up an extra 5th or 6th rounder isn't gonna do shit for this team, its just not a difference making move. There's two people I can think of that would be worth trading and it would tick pretty much every box. Genuine CAP relief, worthwhile draft pick & negligible performance loss.

    Leno & Fuller.

I know how you just reacted to those two names, you think they're both crazy suggestions for different reasons. But think about it for a second.

Prince has been much better than serviceable. He’s our best corner right now...probably best DB overall.

    Thought about it....hate it.

You don't fill holes by opening up holes.

This team doesn't need a rebuild.

I hate Leno....have never thought he was a legit NFL LT.....but we have no replacement. And banking on a draft pick isn't smart.

Fuller isn't having a great season but he also hasn't been terrible.

All this talk of trading pieces away is an overreaction.

We're not winning the Super Bowl this year. Let's cash in aging talent while we can to turn into draft capital and cut salary. The #1 priority in the offseason will be a free agent QB since we don't have a high pick. We'll need the cap space. And Pace has demonstrated an ability to find guys in rounds 3-5. Acquiring picks is a way we can stockpile some young cheap depth to compliment the vets we will keep for 2020 and 2021.

  11. blang84 M.V.P. Bears

Don't want to get rid of Fuller. I think he's got a couple good years left in him.

Leno on the other hand, is there really a team that would trade for that salary given his mediocre quality? If so, sure. But then we'd need to prioritize LT in the offseason as well.

  12. BearsWillWin Drunk (Probably) Patreon Champion Manager Bears Blackhawks Cubs

And if we let go good veterans and fill those spots with rookies......we aren't winning next year either.

  13. EvertonBears M.V.P. Bears

Of course. Pace has made a career in Chicago of filling holes he himself just opened.

But you also don't get draft picks(and cap relief) in exchange for players without creating holes of some kind. Now if you think the whole thing is a stupid idea and no one should be traded no problem brother, im not sure id even disagree with you, lets just shut the thread down right now.

But if we're all gonna talk about this lets be realistic and put the concept of something for nothing over there. The Bears don't have enough draft picks next year. They don't have enough cap space next year. To noticeably improve that they're gonna have to give something up. To fill holes and draft a QB worth a F, they've gotta give somewhere. Whether now is the time is a big question for sure, but im just trying to play along with blangs thread.

How much a team has noticed or prioritises Leno's form over 6 games is both unknown and highly debatable. But here's what we do know. Blindside protector is one of the most important positions on the field and there are teams with big needs there. Leno has proven remarkably durable, he hasn't missed 1 game in nearly 4 1/2 years. He also went to the pro bowl last season, he is an actual pro bowler. We prob think his salary is higher than it really is, he's not even in the top16 for LT's this season. He's under contract for 2 more years at the same money so in NFL terms his salary will look cheaper every year.

We all think Leno is trash, but its totally possible a team could weigh up the above and think a change of scenery could get them a highly productive player. The real problem as bww said is there's no clear replacement. That guy pat was talking about? I dunno, but if a team offered a 2nd im taking it. 3rd i am too probably.

I'm not suggesting he's been bad, but I am suggesting he's been unproductive. And that the Bears are not getting anything close to value for money from him.

Fuller is being completely wasted in Pagano's system, in fact I have to wonder if he has too much freedom re how he wants to play cos why in the world would Pagano choose to play Fuller 10yards off a RB as happened in London, or 10 yards of Taysom Hill against the Saints? I mean what the actual fuck??! JMO, but no way he'd be playing this way under Fangio. Whether its Pagano scheme or Pagano himself doesn't matter to me, Fuller's impact on a game has nosedived.

Also, Fuller is the 3rd highest paid player on the entire team this year. Next year he carries the highest cap hit of anybody not named Mack. Assuming Pagano is back next year(I think you have to at this point) I don't know how you justify Fuller at those numbers without a drastic change in productivity.

As pat said, the CB market may already have moved on too far to make any of this viable. But Fuller is a guy who prob has 1st round value. Who would you rather have, a top dollar CB who's being hamstrung by the scheme, or a new 1st round QB that your team desperately needs?

    Totally agree.

If you could guarantee me that we'd get a 1st round pick and that there would be a QB we need available and Pace would actually select that guy......pull the trigger.

But....I don't see any of that as a definite.

  16. EvertonBears M.V.P. Bears

I must admit, your making holes comment was a deeply insightful, unimaginably sick burn from which there's no coming back.

I'll go one better. I'll also guarantee he'll be a HOFer. I don't even know who it'll be yet, but HOFer. Welcome aboard!

The idea that these are veterans who either are or will be in decline by next year. No way to know for sure of course. But cheaper, talented depth to supplement that good veterans that we all agree we should hang to, yes please.

Fuller is one of those guys that needs to stick around, even with his underwhelming season so far. Good CBs are hard to find, definitely worth a mid-1st round pick, so why take a 1st round pick in exchange for an already established start? Now if a stud QB is available, Pace would probably pass him anyway to take a Division 2 prospect with a good youtube highlight reel. So yeah, no thanks on trading Fuller.

There are only 2 players I can see being traded that would bring something back and not create a hole that needs to be filled.

    Taylor Gabriel Nick Kwiatkoski.

With Gabriel we have Wims and Ridley waiting in the wings. If you can get a 3rd or 4th I would take it.

As for Nick I think his value is at an all time high. It’s not likely but if someone was willing to give up a 5th I would take it. We need to bring Trevathan back making Nick too expensive for us next season anyway.

    Why is that the idea?

What are you seeing by Prince Amukamara right now that tells you he is gonna decline soon?

Just my unsolicited 2 cents -

    Ride the wave of ineptitude.

    Fire Nagy before the draft.

Hire Kevin Stefanski as the new head coach.

Deal Mitch for a third or better.

Put a focus on the offensive line.

Throw a truck full of cash at 37 year old Philip Rivers.

Play sound defense, run the damn ball and let Rivers convert on manageable 3rd downs.

Control the clock, control field position and control the game.
