In his 12 years in the NFL, Joe Flacco has learned the art of understatement.

So after his Broncos were thrashed 30-6 last night, dashing the hopes sparked by a two-game winning streak to drop to 2-5, he offered a frank assessment of where they were.

“We’re just not playing good football,” Flacco said, via Mike Klis of KUSA. “They came after us and we kind of let them come after us. You’ve got to give a lot of credit to them. They played really physical. They came hard. They played downhill and we were in a lot of bad situations.”

Primarily, the bad situation was when the Broncos had the ball. They were limited to an early rushing touchdown, and Flacco finished with 213 passing yards, despite being behind and in passing situations most of the night. He has six touchdowns in seven games, and having fewer than a touchdown pass a game is not a sign of an efficient offense (at least in 2019).

Flacco was also sacked eight times, giving him little chance at times. They were also 1-of-13 on third downs, which is bad when you type it out like that.

“All levels of our passing game was the problem,” Broncos head coach Vic Fangio said. “Protection sometimes. Receivers not getting open sometimes. Then some good coverages that maybe we weren’t ready for. It certainly a problem we have to get rectified moving forward.”

The question for the Broncos will quickly become how long they should let Flacco have the reins moving forward. With rookie Drew Lock still on injured reserve and at least a week away from a potential return, he’s not an immediate option, nor one which would clearly help.

Dude was shell shocked. I rewound to see I wasn't mistaken. Guy hit the gap by the Center but he wasn't through it until Flacco threw it.

funniest was troy aikman last night ... "i don't mean to pick on Joe, but he has to move around better in the pocket!" HAHHAHAHAHA

DeMarcus Lawrence just tried to act tough telling the coach he doesn't play the game. How childish can you be. Coaches get paid a ton to be a huge part of the game so STFU.

He took the gloves completely off, and warned Pederson he isn't the one who has to suit up.

"[Pederson's] gotta come here," Lawrence said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. "Tell him to come on. We ready. Can he play the game?

"He might want to shut his ass up and stay on the sidelines. He can't play the game for them."

    I'm so conflicted with Flacco.

On one hand, he might be one of the unluckiest QBs in the NFL. So many times when he does something heroic to win a game, his team manages to crumble around him for a loss. In Baltimore this happened countless times with critical drops, missed kicks, and last second defensive crumbles. Just looking at game 1 this year you had a receiver drop a TD that would have won the Broncos the game. Last night, he had the most sacks in a game in his entire career. No QB is winning a game like that.

On the flip side, there was something very familiar with the Broncos offense to the old Ravens offenses. It may be some special sauce NFL defensive coordinators know, but it seems like it's not very difficult to defend his offenses. It's always so basic with lots of checkdowns and rarely if ever do players get wide open for huge plays.

I'd imagine he gets benched when the rookie comes back because the Broncos aren't playing for anything. There's always talk about how competitive Flacco is, but does he really care anymore? Something about the regular season just doesn't resonate with him. It's like he always looks ahead thinking "Well next week we can do better" and gives up on the current game. I think that's why he's significantly better in the playoffs.

Aikman showed multiple replays where the OL opened up lanes for him to escape the pocket with ease, and he ignored the holes, didn't even try to get outside the pocket and at least half of his sacks were of this variety. Joe looks defeated, he isn't going thru his progressions, he isn't trying to move around any more than he has to, once the team gets down, he literally just goes through the motions. I used to back Flacco because everyone knows that my team has suffered through some horrible QB's over the years, but since that knee/back injury, he hasn't been the same QB at all.

If he wants to stay in the NFL, he better pick his play up because Drew Lock is about to put him on the bench asap.

I'm thinking about starting an NCAA Football Pick'em contest next year. Trying to get a feel for how many of you would be interested in participating.

Lots of details to work out, but . . .
    • It will probably use the the top 15 teams in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
    • Due to scheduling differences between the NCAA and the NFL, it will probably use the opening point spread for the games each week.
    • Winner will be based on correct picks percentage.
      • There will be a penalty for missed picks . . . just haven't figured that out yet.
    • There will probably be a sign up routine that will be used at the end of the season as a tie breaker, if necessary.
Just reply to this post if you're interested. I may contact some that do (via PM) to see if you want to participate in a test drive this year that would let me work the bugs out of a spreadsheet that I'll use to manage the contest.

    Uh, Oh.

Josh Gordon is listed as "Out" for the Monday night game against the Jets due to knee and ankle injuries. We all know how Josh handles pain management during his down time.

    Big loss. I don't think the Pats can beat the Jets without him. ... ... ... I don't know how they'll manage. ... ... ...

IDK, they've managed to beat them twice a year without him for, what - 15 years?

Once I get a few shows in it will sound less cringe to my own ears and I can speak a bit more naturally. My brother says it sounds fine but most people think they sound weird. It's a lot easier when you can have a natural back and forth. Some of Tim and I's lost shows from a few years back were pretty dope. I remember we randomly talked about Trae Young and shit at Oklahoma for basketball.

That's usually the way it goes... people don't like the way they sound and are veery critical of themselves. In a non-flattering attempt to critique you, I think, in my own opinion, you did very well. If you were nervous or timid at times it didn't show or should I say 'sound' like it.

By the way, having been in radio for decades now, you do have a good voice for radio/podcasting, so don't worry about that. Just relax, be yourself and above all have and make it fun, period.

I listened to every word and was pleased with how you executed your show, FWIW. I think you and Tim got this and it has a flow to it that is interesting.

Now that im done saying nice things in general... YOUR TEAM SUX !!!!

We need a sarcasm smiley face on this forum. A big ol' eye roll, maybe. Because that was HEAVY sarcasm. I'd be surprised if it resembled an actual football game, and not a varsity v freshmen scrimmage.

I would wear a hole in it in less than a week.
