Damned safety prevented a shut out. We knew that one TD would be enough. 7-2 final for Buffalo’s home opener vs. the Devils. Big 50th Anniversary celly, and sweet sweaters.
Yeah, you get all those C’s and Rick Jenneret on the ice at the same time it’s special. Then Goalofsson started early with a goal. It was a great night.
I cannot copy a link on the iPhone - I’ll try to do that later. Watch Jeff Skinner’s goal to tie it 2-2 vs. Columbus. He skates in behind Murray as he’s trying to exit the zone. Pure pilfering! He snags the puck, turns and snaps it past the BJ goalie. All before anyone on CBJ could utter “WTF!”. Oh, I’m glad the Sabres resigned Skinner. (And that they signed Marcus Johansson. Papa Swede is going to help this team out big time.)
used to love coming up behind a player in street hockey and lifting their stick like Skinner did and taking the ball and going the other way. one of my favorite parts about street hockey! Well done sir.
anyone have an update on Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen? hip surgery last Spring, back sometime after November 1, anyone know more than that?
I’ve been trying to get an answer for you, but ... nuttin. He’s expected back in November - that’s all I’ve got, and it adds zero to what you know. Given Huts performance, together with GM Bot’s preference for slow-grow, I expect he’ll head to Rochester. I doubt he’ll get his NHL introduction this season. Obviously that could change with an injury. The Amerks look strong, and I think the org. will be ecstatic if they could win the Calder. For young players, I think they’ll ticket them to the AHL as much as possible. I’ve got no quarrel with that philosophy.

Great question by Matty.........I have him in my Keeper League and have patiently waited for him to start ???....Dan you have been filling me in since last year when I picked him up....and will keep in the Minors and I'm allowed 4 Prospects (Minors) .....I just feel he is going to be a great # 1 Goalie. I hope all is well Dan........How about the Avs.........nice start.
I think projecting goalie production may be the hardest task in sports. But, UPL sure looks like the real deal. With his size and experience in both Finland and the OHL, I think you’re smart to keep him. My hope is that the org. stays on the current path of creating a winning atmosphere for every prospect. Cincinnati (ECHL) & Rochester did their part last year - and so far this year. Buffalo is winning, and it’s not a fluke like last season’s 10 game win streak. Is it sustainable? We’re really just at the brink of being confident about this year’s performance; at 10 games in we know their system is the primary reason for optimism. More balanced scoring also is encouraging. I’ll give it 20 games before I start making further prognostications. As for the Avs, of course I live in Denver and see them more than any other team. I am extremely impressed with the job Sakic and Bednar have done. I am very close to calling them “for real”. I still like their outlook for a year to two down the line better. That’s just based on the exceptional talent they have in the pipeline. The Preds could be very close to a closing window. It’s too early to write off the Jets, but obviously there are major concerns on D. The Sharks may blow. Minnesota does blow. The Nucks may only be a year away from contending. And, the Oil are certainly impressing.
Goalofsson has been a revelation for my fantasy team, I appreciate the heads up here. There’s no way I would’ve grabbed him first if not for this thread and Dan. I’d like to grab UPL but I won’t be able to keep him this offseason with Olafsson and Binnington vying for my rookie keeper slot. 82 or less regular season games constitutes a rookie and I think Binnington may still be eligible.
