Defensive lineman Michael Bennett was not spotted at Patriots practice on Tuesday and the reason for his absence came to light later in the day. Bennett has been suspended one game for conduct detrimental to the team. Nick Underhill of TheAthletic.com reports that Bennett aired his displeasure with his role on defense to the coaching staff last week and Bennett confirmed that such a conversation was behind the disciplinary action. “On Friday, I had a philosophical disagreement with my position coach that has led to my suspension. I apologize to my teammates for any distraction this may have caused,” Bennett told Jordan Schultz of ESPN. Bennett joined the Patriots in a trade with the Eagles this offseason. He has played 130 snaps through six games and was in on 11 snaps against the Giants last week. Bennett has five tackles, 2.5 sacks and four quarterback hits in that playing time. (PFT)
Ravens apparently just traded Kenny Young to the Rams for Marcus Peters. There's an "undisclosed" draft pick in there too from the Ravens to the Rams.
Whatever people's assessments are of Peters today, this is a steal for the Ravens. They desperately need corner help and they are getting a former Pro Bowl player for a guy who has been relegated to the bench in favor of cut and unemployed LBs due to his inconsistency.
Austin Corbitt, 2nd round draft pick in 2018 by the Browns who has logged 1 snap in 2019, traded to the L.A. Rams for a 2021 undisclosed draft pick.
Trent Williams to Cleveland rumor emerges... Dysfunctional teams do dysfunctional things. But sometimes they do something that makes sense, against their nature. Washington may soon be throwing in the towel on the Trent Williams holdout, trading the disgruntled left tackle in advance of the deadline that arrives in only two weeks. Steve Doerschuk of the Canton Repository shares the news with a tweet that is oozing more with rumor than it is dripping with hard news: “Hearing Trent Williams should be on Browns roster quite soon.” The Browns clearly need the help at left tackle, and they’re surely feeling sufficiently desperate at 2-4 to try to turn things around with a big, bold move that would help bolster one of the biggest flaws on their offense, which would make it easier for sophomore slumping quarterback Baker Mayfield to buy more time to throw. It’s unclear whether other teams are pursuing Williams; he’s good enough that there should be an auction for his services. Doerschuk’s information, if accurate, implies that the auction (f there is one) has ended, that the Browns have emerged as the winners, and that it’s only a matter of time before Williams officially is shipped to Cleveland. Well the Rams apparently knew what they were doing. They sent Peters to us (Peters has been getting torched without Talib in the lineup this season), and went and traded for Ramsey for 2 1st's and a 4th.....
Rams and Ravens really made smart moves. I just wonder if the Rams should be more concerned with the offensive side of the ball... they still seam to lack something there, in my opinion.
The New Orleans Saints will be without P.J. Williams for two games. Williams has been suspended without pay for the Saints' next two games after violating the league's policy and program on substances of abuse. The veteran cornerback will be eligible to return to the active roster on Monday, Oct. 28 following the team's Week 8 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. Williams started five of the Saints' 6 games this season. He has 1 sack and 18 total tackles in 2019. (NFL.com)
A rushing game is what they are lacking. They get that on track then it opens up the playnaction and passing game they had last season. May not happen though because i doubt they can fix the offensive line during the season.
although the Rams got Jalen Ramsey, it will be interesting to see what they pay him next year. could be a huge cap hit. too huge for some other teams who were interested in Ramsey to pay.
He's going to probably set a new bar for CB's... he will demand to get paid real handsomely and he's about the best out there. Rams arnt afraid to pull the trigger on deals, but it will be interesting to see what kind of sacrafice they will come up with to sign him to a deal and then maybe they dont if the Rams dont make the playoffs.
They can save roughly a mil by trading him late this off-season, which likely factors into their decision. Getting a late second back in 2020 after giving up multiple firsts is a small help for future draft moves.
It would be a crazy stratagey considering pay and roster spot but Gurley (and whatever team has him) would/could benifit from letting him sit a year. Enough excersise to keep him inshape but nothing extreme give the body a chance to bounce back.
