I knew Rudolph was the best QB in this class, but I thought it would be a couple of more years before we found out.

 

Is this all AFC North or are we venturing throughout the league?

Sadly, I'm beginning to think that Goober is in over his head.

He keeps repeating that the Browns are trying to get better every snap, every possession, every quarter, every game. IMHO, they should be getting better BEFORE each game. This league isn't going to run in place while he catches up. It's pretty obvious that the only team in the AFCN that will go into the playoffs is the one that wins the division. Right now, the Browns are a full game out of 1st place and stareing at 2 full games out with the Seahawks coming to town and the Ravens on a bye week at home against the Bengals.

Granted, the Ravens have the harder part of their schedule yet to go. (Their remaining opponents have a 0,605 winning percentage - including the Bengals). And, despite their horrific start, don't count the Steelers out yet either. Yes, they're 1-4-0 but they have played a much harder schedule (0.632 compared to the Ravens' 0.342 and the Browns' 0.500). Remaining schedules for the Steelers is 0.405 and the Browns is 0.421. At his current rate, Freddie is going to run out of season.

In all fairness, the O-line given to Freddie by Dorsey borders on criminal. Despite some subjective, asinine ratings by PFF, only 2 of the 5 should be starters in the NFL.

 

Don't you dare. PFF has crowned this one of the best rosters in the NFL for years, now (right?).

The problem is multi-faceted. But coaching is the solution for much of it. Team not getting their shit together / putting in the work? Coaching. Putting the players in position to fail on a given down? Coaching.

A reminder to Browns fans - this team's window is NOT just this year / next. This team is young and is built to have a foundation in place for some time. So there is time for this to get better without things needing to blow up.

Best case scenario is 1 and 1, leaving us most likely 2 games back. Still within reach, but another loss after that leaves us no room for error, and we are really good at "errors".

I completely agree, the problem is coaching. I'm sorry to say it, but Freddie has to look in the mirror and recognize he's the problem. He needs to make changes in how he is preparing this team. He has talent, but it is nearly invisible, due to the lack of discipline. Penalties, drops, out of position, etc..... are killing us.

That's coaching, and if he doesn't right the ship he will lose the players. These guys know they have the talent to win, and sooner or later they are going to look up at the coaches and start wondering if their leadership is simply not as talented as they are.

Yes, there are personnel problems on the O line, but there are also ways to help that, and we aren't employing them. They are quickly going to get to the point of quitting when they get down by two scores, if the staff doesn't show the ability to adjust and react to game situations.

Freddie, it's time to demand more from your staff, your players, and yourself.

According to the stats you included in your post, these guys have only allowed 5 sacks for 50 sack yards. Yet Mayfield has been sacked this year 16 times for 128 sack yards.

I realize Robinson got ejected in a game and somebody took his place and that there have been multiple revolving doors at RT. So, are you saying that the BACKUPS have surrendered the difference between these two sets of numbers?

That's 11 sacks for 78 sack yards!

 

Jarvis isn't a fan of the play calling. He came out in a press conference and argued that the team wasn't getting the ball into the hands of it's playmakers (Odell).

Monkin also admitted some of the problems are Baker having mental lapses, some are guys not being where they are supposed to be, drops, O line. the whole enchalada.

They've got to win Sunday, or things are going to go off the rails. If they enter the Bye week, off a 2 game losing streak........... There's going to be some chirping.

 

I was going to add to this but ran out of time yesterday.

Kendall Lamm, who spelled Robinson for a hot second, has not been tagged with a sack surrendered or flagged for a penalty (not shocking since he's only played four snaps). Justin McCray, who filled in for Chris Hubbard, has been credited with 2.0 sacks, 17.0 sack yards, and 2 penalties for 10 penalty yards.

So nine on the offensive line.

They don't track the tight ends and running backs, but I can count at least three sacks through the first five games squarely on the tight end or running back (two on Dontrell Hilliard, alone). That's an "unofficial" measurement, of course, so the remainder fall onto Baker Mayfield for stepping outside of his protection and taking the sack.

I'm inclined to think Freddie is not going to ask Ward, Greedy, or Higgins to play, thinking he'd like them all ready for the back half. To me it's "all hands on deck", crisis mode, and if they can suit up, they play.

Might as well find out now if these guys have the mental toughness to make it in the NFL, or if we have some talented trade bait.

After the Hue Jackson / Todd Haley dust up on Hard Knocks over "injured" players practicing or not practicing, I'm not surprised Goober is treading lightly.

It's a very fine line that runs between sitting players and putting them on the field. Especially given the current climate in the NFL surrounding player safety and an upcoming union contract. Just hope he weighs all his input from the training staff and the temperature coming from his seat appropriately.
