    IMHO:
    • He's achieved celebrity status in the NFL without having to earn it.
    • He runs off at the mouth when there is no need to do that. NFL players have very good memories.
    • And, worst of all, he gets zero help from the 5 big uglies in front of him. All those weapons that surround him are worthless if he's running for his life.
The best thing he could do, is trade in his swagger for a truckload of humility. (And pray for an offensive line next year)

He's painting a bullseye on the back of the entire team for no reason...

Since we lost, this gotta be a thing...

Baker clearly shaking hands/dapping/hugging everyone in the line. Can't really see Sherman, but I find it odd that he would single out just Sherman. Especially considering Baker took this slight against Kansas to heart, you'd like to think he'd be extra sensitive to it.

My guess... Sherman is manufacturing a controversy.

We need to start winning so we can avoid crap like this.

I agree with this. But maybe he was reading this board, already proclaiming him best in the league, hall of famer, etc...

I remember trying to point out his inaccuracy / inconsistency, early on. I was told I was crazy, and a hater. Careful, Lym - the homer mob is reading this.

At the end of the day, this is on coaching. So much of what happened last night is fixed with better playcalling - simple as that. Your QB has happy feet and no idea when to release the ball? That's a discipline problem, and on the coaching. If Baker had never shown he was competent, it'd be a different story. But the coaching staff needs to revise what they're doing ASAP, and in a big way.

    Full-on Zapruder film here:

Baker leans in, maybe not for a handshake but at least a hug, Sherman walks right by.

Well they clearly walk by each other without shaking hands. Video doesn't provide any proof as to who is responsible for that. Baker has never been afraid to reply to criticism so let's see if he denies it or not.

Well, when we were 1-2, I said I'd be ecstatic if we can make it to the bye week at 3-3....I'll stand by that, but we obviously need to get right in a hurry with Russell Wilson coming to town (on long rest).

Right now, looking at the schedule, it's hard to imagine this team being anything but 2-5....The next two games are against the two most well prepared QB's in football, and last night we looked like a complete shitshow.

The last time everyone wrote the Browns off, about 2 weeks ago, they went out and hung 40 on the Ravens. Can Freddie get this squad off the mat again? We'll see... Doesn't look good.

Perhaps a bigger issue than Baker... who he's throwing the football to.

Jarvis Landry has been WR1 for the team with defenses taking Odell away and Kitchens unable to find a creative way to get him the football. Njoku and Higgins out with Callaway and Ratley not cutting it.

    Mayfield with Higgins/Njoku (2019): 63.6% completion, 8.0 YPA
    Mayfield withotu Higgins/Njoku (2019): 53.0% completion, 7.5 YPA

Maybe in your world. In mine, I couldn't care less what one of the biggest loudmouths in sports (Richard Sherman) has to say. I only care about what players do on the field during a game.

Oh, I agree with you. Someone else popped this up on the thread and everyone's favorite sports writer - Michael Silver - is the one who started this whole nonsense.

I'm more concerned with 180 total yards and 3 points.

Richard Sherman is a complete tool.

Sherm in his feelings that Baker didn't give him a hug, I guess.

Is nobody paying enough attention to Sherman's kneeling technique this year? L00K4TM3!!!

  17. beachbum Legend Manager Steelers

Yeah Sherman is definitely full of shit but easily believable based on Capt Nimrod's past behavior...

Freddie is in trouble. Can he win his players trust again? I'm actually more disappointed in the our Wilkes D. They have been the rock upon which the team could stand, and they didn't show up last night.

I expect Freddie to struggle, as a first year HC, and only in his first year as play caller. He got schooled by Shanahan, big time. He has to dial down the Baker hero plays and get the ground game going to allow his weak O line a chance to succeed, and thus Baker to have time to throw. Baker on the other hand needs to take what the D gives him and not look for the hero shots. Let them come, don't force it.

Game 6 sets up as another "must" game. No they don't "have to" win, but they do have to show up and play soundly. Cut out the penalties, stop dropping balls, and play within themselves.

Forget the hype and play football.

The Browns are up-and-down because they're up-and-down from play to play, series to series, and game to game.

I don't buy the weak line argument - we didn't have any gripes against New York, Los Angeles, or Baltimore. Baker is 36th (out of 38) in allowed time to throw - 2.96s. Per ESPN's defined stat - pass block win rate - the Browns still have the 6th best win-rate in the NFL, including the #2 center (97%), and #5 guard (95%). We can't be winning our pass blocks, giving Mayfield nearly the most time in the NFL to throw and *still* be a bad offensive line.

(In fact, for more evidence, peep the 49ers game again and see how many times the offense tried to iso-block Bosa or the other edge with a tight end.)

@Lyman brought up the under center/shotgun argument with Baltimore. That trend continued in the San Francisco game where Mayfield was under center a season-high 55%. This was obviously a mistake, as he wasn't able to out-maneuver the rush. Again, back to Jake's tweet - it wasn't just one thing. We can't point to Mayfield in the shotgun or under-center and say "see... that was the issue".

    Here's one suggestion on reads/looks...

Again, *maybe* Baker is getting to this third, fourth, and even *gulp* fifth read in the redzone (doubtful)... but something's got to change if Ratley, Demeterius Harris, and Antonio Callaway - in his first game action - are seeing the lion's share of redzone passes. The plays being dialed up in the RZ have to be better. Baker went from first in the NFL under Kitchens in 2018 to last in the NFL under Kitchens in 2019 at redzone passing.
