There's a solid chance that I may end up on the wrong end of my projection for Daniel Jones, and it will likely be because I didn't give him nearly enough credit for being able to simply execute the offense as it is drawn up. It could be the biggest difference between my basic comparison to a Derek Carr type ceiling and Daniel being more like the Andy Reid version of Alex Smith.

Through out the game against the Bucs he, more often than not, made the simplest and most correct read, taking what the defense was giving and not forcing things into harms way. His best throw (most professional, not most athletic) might have come on the two point conversion where he cycled through his progression and led the receiver to the end zone. It arrived on time, in rhythm and with the kind of touch that made it an easily catchable ball.

To be sure, it wasn't as flawless as some are going to sell it in the media this week. He was aided by a Bucs team that is going to give away some games this season and the play calling for Daniel was some of the best that I had a chance to see so far from Sunday's games. The issues that kept his pre-draft score out of the 900 range were all still on display, namely his pocket awareness, ball protection and inconsistent accuracy, but he hit the open man more often than not and showed strong leadership capabilities on the road in his first start.

On the other side of the ball, Jameis Winston's in attention to detail is so blatantly obvious that watching him play, from an evaluation standpoint, is damn near painful. Every time he does the lazy fake on play-action my head shakes involuntarily.

The Bucs have to move on...

This might sound crazy, but I think the giants have a chance to make the playoffs with Daniel Jones at QB. Even without Barkley for the next 4-8 weeks.

They still have to play Minnesota, New England, Detroit, Green Bay, Chicago, Philly (twice) and Dallas. There are some good defenses in there that'll pose a LOT more problems for Jones than the Tampa Bay Bucs did.

    Interesting stat I saw:

In the third quarter of games this year, Dak Prescott is 22-of-22 for 384 yards, with 3 TDs and 0 INTs.

Not to mention the Bucs missed a chip shot for the win.

What about Daniel Jones isn’t everyone getting? He had a ridiculous competition percentage in the preseason. Then went out against a first unit defense and still had a ridiculously high completion percentage. He looks like a special QB.

It was just 1 game. He did well, but time will tell.

    AND two extra points.

Plenty of QBs have put up astounding numbers in preseason (see Rush, Cooper).

It was one game, Gid, against a pretty poor Bucs team. Great start, no doubt - but YOU need to get it's just one game.

I think he has some potential but need to see a lot more. And the team around him is pitiful. It was bad with Barkley....it's near bottom of the barrel without him.

No chance they make the playoffs. I'm willing to throw money behind that.

Does everyone know that he is completing like 80% of his passes in every game he played in preseason and regular season.

Do you know how small of a sample size that is?

  14. gidion72 Legend Steelers

But the results are better than Drew Brees in every single one of those samples.

65% of passes completed in games that actually count.

Which by the way equals 40 total passes.

    40.

Versus the 9831 Brees has thrown.

That's not much different than saying Barry Switzer had a better win percentage than Tom Landry

Dak Prescott for his career has a better completion percentage, interception percentage, yards per attempt, and QB rating than Tom Brady.

TOO EARLY. Nice start by Jones; needs to show FAR MORE.

  18. gidion72 Legend Steelers

Eighty percent completion percentage is unheard of. One game is a fluke. Five games is a trend.

Dak has been looking really good but I think Axe is waiting to see what these next couple weeks show. As impressive as those stats are against any opponent it's still vs what are likely 3 of the worst teams/defenses of the league.
