Its because the GM of the team made a massive mistake. The kind of mistake that can cost you a Lombardi trophy.
Your reading comprehension is almost as bad as your ability to evaluate Mitch last night. I'm pissed cuz the GM fucked up and we missed out on the Super Bowl. But yeah, as fans we should look past that cuz all that matters is "enjoyable football" and not Super Bowl rings, right Rob?
Monty was running towards the middle of the field on that play. Mitch should have hit him on the numbers in stride and that would be a really nice gain.
1. I am not comparing Mitch to Mahomes - there is no comparison. I am comparing him to NFL QB's. And it's not a good look, for him. 2. An infographic was up on the screen at one point during the game that showed Mitch had 30-something TD's in his career, Mahomes and Watson each had 60-something. It tells a pretty damning story of Trubisky - not because of their relative draft position, but because of their career length. It's not exactly like Mitch has been running a ground and pound offense, with the RB's stealing all those TD's away from him to make up the difference... 3. Watching Mitch is not enjoyable, and he is not playing well. His stats are largely a result of handholding playcalling that works to free up his first read in easy passing scenarios, so that he doesn't have to move through progressions, and can limit his decision-making / downfield inaccuracy issues. It's really obvious - any objective observer with a halfway critical eye can see it. I'm not denying that the guy makes a nice throw every now and then - the long TD to Gabriel is a good example, as is the last pass to set up a FG last week - but when it's one out of 30+, and he's making significantly more bad passes than good ones... well, that's not acceptable. 4. Mitch did not have a "great game". He managed a game. He achieved the minimum that his playcaller asked of him. He threw to his first read. He was not adequate enough to beat a good defense. And, unfortunately, that was a bad defense that he just played. Edit - also, where Mitch was drafted absolutely matters, at least as far as Pace's job is concerned. He had his pick of any QB in the draft - even traded up to make sure he got his guy. And, very simply, he got it wrong. More importantly, he got it wrong based on evidence that would not lead one to believe that Mitch was the right pick in the first place. I've spelled it out elsewhere - Mitch's body of work and skills he displayed did not merit picking him before Watson / Mahomes / etc. And he has very much fulfilled that expectation.
Yes, his reaction time as well. Somethings taken its toll cos he simply isn't the same player he was a few years ago, he looks done. He's 31 soon, which isn't old old, but coupled with the extensive injury list.... We're only 3 weeks in but the odds of Long being back next year already look, well, very long. He carries a cap hit of $9.6mil next year with only $1mil dead. Pace has a world of cap trouble on the horizon next offseason. There's gonna be some big name cuts for sure, there'll have to be. As well as Long's cap hit we've got guys like Massie $8.3mil, Burton $8.5mil, Leno $10mil, Prince $10mil, Floyd $13mil(possible ext to lower that), ARob $15mil, Mack $26mil(gulp). Not to mention a definite extension for EJax. There's potentially some major holes to fill there. Something to think about for anyone wanting to just package our two 2nds to move up for a QB. So yeah, unless some incredible team friendly restructure happens Long doesn't seem to be long for this team.
Just more reasons to be pissed at Mitch's development. The time to strike is when your QB is on his rookie deal.
Absolutely. And while i hate what if games like this, what blang said is unavoidable. This team wins a SB with either Watson or Mahomes.
I am much more worried about our interior line. I feel we have an issue at center. And I think Long is definitely not playing at the level he was. ANd our run game was crap (both from an execution stand point as well as coaching) Leno had a better game against a weak OLB. But in general, I think our Oline is not where it should be yet.
That should automatically be taken out of the equation since that was all Monty. This line flat out sucks. Damn Ev, you seem to see things that I don't even see you amaze me, but somehow you could even find fault in a simple blowjob even though you finish. I hope not, because that's where I'm at with him or is it? He does seem to continue to recognize the open receiver much too late to make an uncontested throw when he happens to not lock in on one guy, and that bothers the piss out of me, and that is something that most likely can't be corrected. I think however if they can quiet those stuttering feet like you say he can improve that accuracy on those times he does. I'm not saying that they can salvage his career as a QB in this league, but perhaps they can at least salvage the season. He seems to throw more accurately on the run and the times he does he usually maintains proper leverage on his throws. When I saw him in camp his rookie year he was thumping those barrels and didn't miss even one barrel unlike Butt Fumble and Glennon, and yet here we are. He seems to lack ice water in his veins, and perhaps an improved and consistent offensive line could help in that regard, but if your QB has to rely on it then he is not the guy. Could that play give the Butt Fumble play a run for its money? Stuttering feet in the pocket? Reminds me of the bend don't break Lovie years. The thing I like about it is, what isn't, it gives opposing teams something else to consider when watching the game tape of this defense that your eyes don't always tell the story or does it? I don't have a problem with him but play these receivers tighter because it won't be for long. Fuck playing soft I don't care what kind of lead you have it's what got you that lead stick to your guns. LMFAO Even a broken clock is right twice a day, but I wouldn't use it to tell time.
No way they make a change before the bye, and even if they do change them back i think realistically it would be some time before it happens. Maybe not this season at all. They drafted Daniels to play C so they're gonna give him every chance to work there, and we've seen he's not a fast developer so it may be that we all just have to ride it out. One thing's clear though, right now the Bears are getting much less productivity out of the Daniels-Whitehair combo than they were last year. But hey, those shotgun snaps sure are pretty...
I've gotta say, I am such a huge fan of this Montgomery kid. He is like water, man - if there's any room to run through, he'll find it and pick up extra yards however possible. On the majority of his runs, he picks up yardage that I don't think any other back would. Just water finding its way through cracks. Would really love to see him get more and more shots at success.
He needs to get 20+ carries on Sunday. The Vikings are probably thinking the same thing as far as Cook and their run game.
Yeah, I just watched an old man call it a day, on that play. Hit the recliner, pants off, nobody talk to him. Out for the count. It'd be funny if I didn't want him to play well, for my team.
Sorry about that earlier non-reply, this site is straight up broken on mobile now for me. Asks me to confirm I want to like, and here it showed nothing except a post reply button, still running iOS 12.4.1 but it broke yesterday I think, so I suspect a site update. I'll probably update to 13.1 soon maybe that will fix it. I wanted to call out this bit of dline's post though. I've been on reddit and man everyone there is upset at the "haters" and people not enjoying wins / supporting the team, and the meatball-ness of Bears fandom fucking kills me. This isn't about being a hater. All of us Bears fans want him to succeed, hell we NEED him to succeed because the success of the team is tied to him. Unless he can start putting it together upstairs, we are going to get ROCKED during the tougher games this year. The above is it for me, I love to see the team win, but I also am watching the players, and Mitch for every one good through for several terrible ones. The stat line looks good but he's not passing the eye test. I listened to a bit of Waddle and Silvy, and Silvy made a good point. Close your eyes and imagine Mitch Trubisky, and imagine he's wearing a Lions uniform. Is there any Bears fan that would say "I want that guy as my QB". Objectively he's not there. It's really fucking killing me that being objective about our team is a "hater". Nobody says you're a hater if you think Pagano has the CBs playing soft. Nobody says you're a hater if you think Long's "limp dick" move there is horrifying. But when it comes to the fucking QB, better get on board or off the ship you go. Fucking cunts.
And I am the one with reading comprehension problems? Where in any of my posts have I said we should look past or forgive Pace for not choosing Mahomes? Its an unforgivable offense. One fans will have to live with for a long long time. No, nobody should look past it but they do need to accept it. Because that is reality. After watching more QB's than their are teams in the league play better than our QB, expectations have been lowered. A lot. That is why I felt Mitch played great in this game. Maybe great is a bit too strong a word but he played well above my expectations. It is perfectly fine to both root for Mitch to do well while at the same time acknowledging his flaws and that he was the wrong choice.
