Tim: Money well spent to get him the hell off of the roster, IMO. Just suck up the loss of the draft picks and move on.

Even TO gave his new team a year before the nonsense started. AB hasn’t even made it to week 1! Anybody think this is over Mayock’s draft analysis of him?

 

I believe A.B. gets his guarantees voided and he will be released before Sunday. This has been a P.R. nightmare for a Raiders organization that is trying hard to get ready to move to Las Vegas and build a fan base there. Needless to say, I never thought I would have seen a guy WORSE than T.O. was, but there he is

 

AB is a child. I don't care how big, how good he is he is or how many people he's slept with. He isn't a man. He took this chip on his shoulder out of college and then became cocky and entitled and he's also a hypocrite. He'll never grow up. If I was his coach I'd get in his face and dare him to do something.

 

Right now. If I was his coach, I'd say "Get the F--- off my field and OUT of my locker room!"

 

.....and if I couldn't do that because of contract situations, I'd just make him room with Burfict until he quits. Should take about a week and a half....(if not an hour and a half).

 

...Or if I was Mike Mayock, I would probably say something like , "Are you REALLY going to get me fired this soon???"

 

Matt Nagy on Bears offense: 'Three points is ridiculous'

Matt Nagy's team, opening the NFL's 100th season with expectations higher than Willis Tower, put on an offensive performance even the Chicago Staleys would have laughed at.

Three points.

A 10-3 loss to the rival Green Bay Packers stung in many ways, but the offensive ineptitude Thursday night in Soldier Field had the Chicago Bears coach shaking his head.

"Three points is ridiculous," Nagy said.

Ridiculous, indeed, coach.

"Obviously unacceptable," Nagy said of his offense's performance. "Starts with me, so this -- I just told the guys in there, this is not who we are. I was proud of our defense. I thought they played their ass off tonight. Offensively, not good enough. And we're going to fix it. Our guys know that.

"We have a locker room of high-character people. That's why we bring these guys in because what they do is, they don't point fingers. The defense doesn't point fingers and say the offense should have played better. That's not how we roll."

Matt LaFleur: Defense saved the day



Matt LaFleur was hired as the Packers head coach on the back of his work as an offensive assistant, but his record isn’t 1-0 because of the work done by his offense on Thursday night.

The Packers defense held the Bears to 254 yards while sacking Mitchell Trubisky five times and intercepting him once in a 10-3 win at Soldier Field.

The interception was made by safety Adrian Amos while Preston Smith had 1.5 sacks and Za'Darius Smith added another sack. All of those players were signed by General Manager Brian Gutekunst this offseason and LaFleur noted that activity while thanking the defense for bailing out an offense that was quiet outside of an impressive first half touchdown drive.

“That defense was smothering,” LaFleur said, via Michael Silver of NFL Media. “It’s been awhile since a [Packers] defense came in saved the day. I’m so glad and thankful that Gutey invested in those guys. It was a great night for him, and for [defensive coordinator] Mike Pettine and our defensive staff . . . and our players, of course.”

The Packers now head to Green Bay for three straight games and will host five of the next six contests. They’ll hope the offense makes strides, but will do so with confidence that the defense can hold its own while that unit finds its footing.

I expected to see more of Montgomery, especially considering all the smoke that Nagy and company were blowing. 7 touches is pretty light for a "first round talent". I can't be the only one here that was surprised, right? Eye of the beholder?
Meh, what do I know? Maybe the staff is saving him up for the Super Bowl. NOTE: I picked Chicago to win this one in my(not-survivor) office pool. I'll do my best to avoid relying on this team ... for now.

None of these guys has had the hype-machine behind them like Monty (a 3rd Rounder) has, except for maybe Guice (LAST YEAR - before his knee cap gave out).

 

but he carried them to a SB appearance and played on a broken leg and was 1 reception short of the SB reception record, which was set in the same game. he didn't get sick on the field, his QB did. He didn't throw an inexcusable INT over Brian Westbrook's head, his QB did. That was after the play before, which was also an INT was called back for a NE penalty. T.O. was worth the headache. McNabb and his protector Reid was a big issue in Philly. Then McNabb had to get Jeremiah Trotter to fight his battles for him. McNabb was a baby and didn't like to be called out in the media. T.O. ran with it and made a mockery out of McNabb. He went crying to Reid and Reid took his side over T.O.'s.

 

i think what i was referring too was bf this latest thing started and it was still over the helmet stuff, the Raiders couldn't cut him outright without still being on the hook for cap space until 2021. Now this latest thing is different as his infraction is different, so the Raiders probably have a clause about that in the contract to get rid of him and not owe as much.

 

AB's situation is somewhat complicated. (His brain on the other hand I think is simply a CTE experiment waiting to happen...) The Raiders can suspend and cut him before week 1. If that happens they void all guarantees and this whole mess costs them a few picks and about $1 million. The thing that makes it complicated is the players union can appeal his suspension. If they were to win the suspension and prove that his conduct isn't really detrimental (not sure there is a reasonable argument to be made there but it's a possibility) the Raiders will have cut AB AND they are back on the hook for all the guarantees. It might be worth it either way at this point but if they are on the hook for the rest of the guaruntees they would suddenly find themselves without any cap flexibility in season. Suspending him a few games and cutting him next year is an easier pill to swallow for cap purposes if they are risk averse. The Raiders though have a pretty solid case and haven't exactly shown to be risk averse...

 

Eagles didn't win the Super Bowl (yes, TO played lights out), and the next year his shenanigans (threatening to hold out because he "outperformed" his contract, throwing his QB under the bus, sit-ups in the driveway) helped destroy the team: 6-10, last place.

 

They would only seek to void his guarantees if they were releasing him.

 

i meant in year 1. by year 2 mcnabb hated him as did trotter and the whole team fell apart. i don't think T.O. was 100% liable Axe. I think McNabb and Reid caused a lot of it too.

Yeah, T.O. had like a one-year shelf life. Generally behaved for the first season, then went full Team-Destroying Diva.

 

I wasn't actually comparing the two trades, both were a bit off base...however, the Texans seemed VERY motivated to move Clowney asap. I don't think the Chargers are wanting to move on, even today. I think this is to show him his true value so that he will come around and actually start playing ball. I'm not sure if they offered anything to begin with, but since it was reported they "stopped" contract talks, I am assuming they did. I think they are willing to listen to offers and if one comes across beneficial to them, they move on, otherwise, he stays whether he is sitting or not.

As for the Eagles, I have no doubt it was a fishing expedition. I'm sure they would like to have him, but it doesn't even sound like they understand the underlying problems between the two sides... part of their deal would have included the Chargers eating some money. If there was a new deal on the table, they wouldn't have to eat some salary. Someone had to make a first move to see what the asking price was though...now at least they know part of what they won't take.
