The Browns’ offense did not look good on Friday night, and coach Freddie Kitchens does not want to hear any excuses. Kitchens said the absence of several starters does not justify the poor play from the offense in a 13-12 loss. “Not at all, those guys are coached to execute,’’ Kitchens said, via Cleveland.com. “Those guys are coached to do their job and we didn’t do a very good job of preparing those guys to do their job and they didn’t do a good job of doing their job. The execution wasn’t there and it had been before. Those guys have played in other games and they performed in practice and they’re expected to perform.” Kitchens didn’t specify anyone in particular he was disappointed with, but he made clear he wants the offense to play better. “It’s not going to be acceptable and we’ll figure out why it happened – bad technique, bad execution, bad plays, bad play call,’’ said Kitchens. “It could be any damn thing. We’re not going to start placing blame tonight, we’re in this thing together.’’ Baker Mayfield finished with an ugly stat line of 10-for-26 for 72 yards. We’ll next see him Week One against the Titans. (PFT)
The Lions defense may have suffered a major blow early in Friday night’s game against the Bills. Linebacker Jarrad Davis got his legs rolled up from behind by teammate Devon Kennard while pursuing Buffalo running back LeSean McCoy. Davis needed help getting to the sideline as he couldn’t put weight on his right leg and was briefly examined on the sideline before a cart was summoned to take him to the locker room. Davis needed help getting from the bench to the cart and received good wishes from several teammates before heading to the back. Needless to say, it didn’t look like a minor injury for Davis. The 2017 first-round pick had 100 tackles and six sacks for the Lions last season and an extended loss would be a blow to a defense that just got its full defensive line on the field together for the first time. Andrew Luck just informed the Colts that he is retiring from the NFL. His Shoulder just never got right again, such a shame.
The reaction was as surprising as Andrew Luck‘s decision. Maybe more surprising. Luck won 53 regular-season games, four playoff games and made four Pro Bowls for the Colts. He delivered many memories to Indianapolis. Yet, as he left the field for the final time as a member of the Colts on Saturday night, after news broke of his retirement, many of those left in the stands at Lucas Oil Stadium booed. They booed loudly. “I’d be lying if I didn’t say I heard the reaction,” Luck said, via Kevin Bowen of 1070 The Fan. “It hurt; I’ll be honest.” The Colts were as disappointed with fans’ reaction as Luck was. “For those people that booed tonight, it’s an emotional time and I understand that,” General Manager Chris Ballard said. “This young man had done a lot for the city of Indianapolis, and for the Colts. Nobody died. And we will keep moving forward and we will make this city proud.” Luck, who turns 30 next month, said he will continue to call Indianapolis home. It will give Colts fans a chance to make up with their former quarterback, who left Lucas Oil Stadium disappointed for more than one reason Saturday night.
Shame how the fans reacted I gett hey are hurt by this but its not like he retired because he made enough money and just wants to quit. Shame to see him go you always hate to see guys with such talent and ability have to leave the game (any sport) early because of injuries.
I understand the fans being pissed. But you gotta admit. The timing could have been better. The season starts in two weeks.
We don't walk in his shoes, im sure what he did was time consuming and painful. 2 weeks or what ever, he did what he thought was right.
I'm sure down the line the Colts will have some type of ceremony for Luck, and Indy fans (having been embarrassed by this) will cheer in support. Sadly, that's too little and too late. You get one opportunity to show your true character. Changing it up after the fact doesn't erase how they really acted in the moment.
