In other news the media went a couple days without talking about Beckham so he had to change that.

    Blah, blah, blah.

    Let him run his mouth.

The Browns are going to be fun to watch this year.

That's a tough division their in.

If they can come out of it with a playoff spot ??

Everyone except Steelers and Ravens fans will like it.

    It's about time !!!!!!!

The Cowboys have announced a press conference covering a contract extension for a current member of the team for Tuesday afternoon.

It won’t Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott or Amari Cooper meeting the media to discuss a new pact, however.

According to multiple reports, linebacker Jaylon Smith has agreed to terms on an extension with the team. Those terms have not come to light at this point.

Smith has been mentioned as a future extension candidate throughout the offseason, but many expected his deal would take a back seat to the offensive players because Smith was under team control through the 2020 season. Smith was set to become a restricted free agent after this season as a result of missing his rookie year with a knee injury suffered while at Notre Dame.

Smith made it clear he wants to be in Dallas for the long term, though, and the sides were able to ensure that will be the case.

This is probably a best possible case scenario for Dallas, and for Zeke. It lets them know what their costs are for the coming years, getting one of their major extensions down. The potential loser here is Smith - if he keeps playing well, and the deal isn't market value when his time is up, he may end up disappointed. But if they structured it right, they might've made everyone happy, which would be very good news for the team.

LOVE it. Guy's finally back to what he was at Notre Dame. Thrilled with the pairing with LVE.

Six days later, Kyle Long was apologetic for his practice fight with a teammate.

In his first comments since swinging a helmet at rookie defensive lineman Jalen Dalton, the offensive guard called his actions “absolutely unacceptable.”

“A momentary lapse of judgment,” Long said, via Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune. “I cost myself a lot of personal equity. People don’t like to see stuff like that. It does not feel good to be the one that’s responsible for it. I’m trying to take ownership of it and move forward, and all I can do today is show up and be the man that I know that I am and stack those days together.”

Long wouldn’t say exactly what caused him to rip off Dalton’s helmet after Dalton blocked him on an interception return. Long swung Dalton’s helmet at him several times and then tossed it toward the sideline.

Long was kicked out of that Wednesday night practice, causing to feel “immediate regret,” and he didn’t travel with the team to the preseason game against the Giants.

He returned to the practice field Tuesday.

“We’re past it,” Bears coach Matt Nagy said. “Now it’s not about talking anymore. . . .It’s showing by your actions, whether that’s being a good football player or being a good person. I always tell my kids, ‘Don’t talk about it. Be about it.’ So it’s time to start being about it.”

Totally agree, Browns are deep in that position even with the suspension of Callaway. Maybe they think the vet is going to be a bump up higher on the depth chart than a couple other youngsters.

This Sunday’s Steelers-Titans preseason game will look a little different, thanks to NBC employing a different camera angle.

NBC is using the “High Sky” camera as the primary play-by-play, live game coverage camera this Sunday night. The “High Sky” camera is at the line of scrimmage, about 50 feet above the ground.

This isn’t the first time a Titans-Steelers game has been a testing ground for a different camera angle. When the two teams met in the 2017 regular season, NBC used SkyCam as the primary camera angle for the broadcast.

Overhead camera angles often give a better sense of the positioning of the players and what the quarterback can see downfield, although some fans prefer the traditional sideline camera, which can give a better sense of how much yardage is gained on the play. Feedback from Sunday night’s game may help determine how often such camera angles are used in live game action going forward.

The Jets will have two players serving four-game suspensions to open the 2019 season.

Linebacker Brandon Copeland has been suspended for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Tight end Chris Herndon was suspended earlier this year for a substance abuse policy violation.

Copeland is eligible to participate in the team’s two remaining preseason games as well as their remaining preseason practices. Once the cut to 53 players is made, he will have to stay away from the team until October 7 as the Jets will have a bye in Week Four this season.

Copeland is in his second season with the Jets. He had 35 tackles and five sacks while starting 10 of the 16 games he played last season.

Detroit defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison was seeking a new contract, and the Lions gave him what he was looking for.

The Lions and Harrison have agreed to add one year and $11 million in new money to his contract, a league source tells PFT. His deal now includes $12 million guaranteed this year and next.

Harrison sat out the entire offseason program in his search for a new contract, and when he reported to training camp despite not getting one, some thought that meant he was going to play out the year without a new deal. But it turned out that the Lions and Harrison kept talking, and came to a deal.

Last year the Lions acquired Harrison in a trade with the Giants and he provided an immediate boost to their run defense. The Lions think he’ll be a big part of their defense for a few more years.

The Steelers have announced the name of the coach who will work with the wide receivers in the wake of Darryl Drake’s death earlier this month.

Ray Sherman has been named the interim wide receivers coach in Pittsburgh. Sherman has been around the team as an observer throughout the offseason and training camp.

Sherman brings a lot of coaching experience with him, including a 1998 stint as the Steelers’ offensive coordinator. He also served as an offensive coordinator with the Jets and Vikings and has also spent time as a position coach or assistant head coach with the Oilers, Falcons, 49ers, Packers, Titans, Cowboys and Rams. His last full-time gig was with the Rams in 2015.

“It’s been good because Coach Drake used to tell us that he would ask him questions,” Steelers wide receiver James Washington said. “For Coach Drake to tell us that explains the type of guy that Coach Sherman is and the knowledge he has and all that he brings to the table as a coach.”

In addition to that NFL work, Sherman spent more than a decade on college coaching staffs. One of those jobs was as the running backs coach at Purdue when Steelers offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner was a graduate assistant.

Patrick Chung indicted for felony cocaine possession

Patriots safety Patrick Chung has reportedly been indicted on a serious drug charge.

Chung was indicted on a charge of possession of cocaine, a Class B felony that carries a sentence of 3.5 to 7 years in prison, in Belknap County, New Hampshire, according to the Laconia Daily Sun.

The incident took place around June 25 and the indictment was presented on August 8, according to the report.

It is unclear why an incident that happened two months ago is just coming to light now, or whether the Patriots and NFL are aware of the matter. Chung has been participating in training camp as usual and is expected to be a starter on the Patriots’ defense when the regular season begins.

Chung, who has an arraignment hearing set for Wednesday, could face league discipline for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy.
