Titans and Patriots fight during joint workout A day ago, Titans coach Mike Vrabel was engaged in some friendly trash talk with former teammate Tom Brady. Today, he had to break up an actual fight. According to Jim Wyatt of the Titans official website, a “brawl” including 15 to 20 players broke out, which Vrabel and Titans General Manager Jon Robinson ran in to break up. Tom Curran of NBCSportsBoston.com called it a “pretty good dustup,” which escalated after Titans rookie wide receiver A.J. Brown “remained locked up” with Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore after the run play. Without seeing video of it, it’s hard to know how bad it actually was, but the fact the coach and G.M. had to run into the pile says something. Most coaches try to limit such events ahead of time, as Panthers coach Ron Rivera did this week in advance of his work with the Bills, calling such fights “bulls—.” (PFT) ____ ______________ They should get rid of the 'joint workouts' altogether.
So Kessler of the Eagles tucks the ball and take's off up the middle, doesn't slide... last thing you want your back-up QB to do.
Ravens CB Tavon Young (neck) could miss 2019 season Baltimore could enter, and conclude, the season without its star slot cornerback. Ravens coach John Harbaugh told reporters after Baltimore's win Thursday night that nickelback Tavon Young could miss the 2019 campaign with a neck injury. "Tavon [Young] has a more serious issue than we thought. He has a neck issue," Harbaugh said. "The doctors can explain it but it's a disc issue so that's a serious injury. He could be out for the remainder of the season. We'll know soon but it doesn look good fot Tavon". Young suffered the injury in practice and did not play in Baltimore's preseason opener, per ESPN's Jamison Hensley. The cornerback returned to practice on Saturday and Sunday, but had not participated in Baltimore's last two practices. The setback is unfortunate for the 25-year-old pro, who in February signed a three-year extension with the Ravens through 2022. Baltimore drafted Young in the fourth round of the 2016 draft out of Temple. Young has played in 31 games for Baltimore, starting in 17, recorded three interceptions, recovered four fumbles and scored two defensive touchdowns over his three-year career. Young missed the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL. Baltimore will miss its newly inked defensive back for however long he is out, but luckily for the Ravens, they are stacked in the secondary. Baltimoree could slide in Cyrus Jones or Brandon Carr into Young's vacancy. Young is not assuredly out for the season until he undergoes surgery on his injured neck. The Ravens nickelback has not decided to do so, but Harbaugh said that is the recommendation. "There is an outside chance that you'd opt to try to see if it'll heal. But I don't think we're recommending that right now," Harbaugh said. "If he gets the procedure done, he'll be fine and good to go. That's probably the best thing to do." (NFL.com)
Nearly had a heart-attack... Got an email from YardBarker. It said Cousins has torn ACL. They were referring to Cousins of the LA Lakers after I read it... whew. Not cool for Cousins and Lakers fans, but a hell of a relief for this Vikings fan!
Huge blow to the Chargers defense... Derwin James to miss significant time The injury that has Chargers safety Derwin James in a walking boot is a bad one. James will miss significant time with a foot injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. It’s unclear what constitutes “significant,” but it sounds fair to say James is going to be out well into the start of the regular season. Last year the Chargers selected James with the 17th overall pick in the draft, and he was outstanding his rookie season, being chosen first-team All-Pro while starting all 16 games and playing a team-high 99 percent of defensive snaps. Losing him for any time at all will be a big blow to the Chargers’ defense.
#Jets LB Avery Williamson out for the season with a torn ACL. Since entering the NFL in 2014, Williamson has tallied 154 run stops, sixth-most among linebackers in that span. Quote Tweet Ian Rapoport @RapSheet · 12m #Jets starting ILB Avery Williamson suffered a torn ACL, source said. He had his MRI today and is out for the season. Terrible preseason injury.
I had the same thought, Will. Especially with the Vikings recent QB history, I thought "not again!" Good luck in a pretty bruising division. Oh, how 'bout them Buffalo Bills!
Adrian Colbert fined $28,075 for lowering helmet The NFL is trying to send a message this preseason that it’s serious about enforcing the rule against lowering the helmet to initiate contact. San Francisco safety Adrian Colbert surely got the message. Colbert was ejected from last week’s preseason game for lowering his helmet to drill Cowboys receiver Cedrick Wilson. Now Colbert has been fined as well. The NFL docked Colbert $28,075 for the hit, according to Ian Rapoport. The league has indicated that it’s going to enforce the lowering the helmet rule more strictly this season, with players at risk of flags, ejections, fines and suspensions if they don’t abide by the rule. In the preseason, that strict enforcement seems to be happening. We’ll see in a few weeks if it continues into the regular season.
Final. 21-18 Browns. Sloppy, sloppy game. Almost 300 yards of combined penalties. Not much to write home about.
