A Norwegian is heading to the Vikings.

Kaare Vedvik, the Ravens kicker and punter who has lit up the last two preseasons but had no realistic chance of unseating Justin Tucker on Baltimore’s roster, has been traded to Minnesota, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Ravens will get a 2020 fifth-round draft pick from the Vikings in the deal.

Vedvik can both kick and punt, which means he could supplant either kicker Dan Bailey or punter Matt Wile in Minnesota. There is even a chance he could supplant both of them and handle both kicking and punting.

Baltimore had reportedly received calls from four teams about trading Vedvik. A fifth-round pick is more than most teams would be willing to give up for a kicker who has never played in a regular-season game, but Vedvik has done enough in the preseason that the Vikings wanted to get a jump on other teams that wanted him, and bring him in to camp.

How did the Ravens keep him for two seasons? It’s not like they signed him to their 53 man roster last season.

He was jumped last season before the season began and placed on the non-football injury list, so you can consider last year a red shirt season. He was excellent last year as well in the preseason games he played, so assuming he bounced back from injury, Ravens fans always knew they were going to get a trade for him.

Yes he can. If you guys even gave up a 4th rounder, you would have snagged a deal. He's athletic, handles two position, and he has the tendency to kick straight like Tucker.

If he’s your punter and kicker you would need to use a back up QB as your holder on kicks, that would give you a greater chance of running successful fake FGs.

The Vikings special teams shakeup extends beyond the trade for kicker Kaare Vedvik.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the team will release long snapper Kevin McDermott. The Vikings drafted long snapper Austin Cutting in the seventh round this year and he received clearance to play while serving his Air Force commitment in July.

McDermott has been the long snapper in Minnesota since 2015. The move saves $760,000 in cap space.

The move came after head coach Mike Zimmer discussed issues associated with having two long snappers in camp earlier in the day.

“Honestly, I really like Dan Bailey,” Zimmer said, via the Pioneer Press. “I think he’s a very professional, mature kid. We’ve been having some issues with the snap, hold, kick kind of thing. Having two long snappers has added to that a little bit because the timing is a bit different. The holding we’re working on quite a bit.”

Zimmer wouldn’t discuss the Vedvik trade because it was not official at that point, but Bailey’s up-and-down camp played into the decision to make the move. Vedvik can also punt the ball, so more changes on special teams are likely to come one way or another.

The only thing I have to say about both punting and kicking is teams always take the punting duties away after one or two seasons of doing both. I think they get worried that If they get injured they lose both positions.

Vikings turn to baseball for their new COO

The local baseball team is having a great season. The local football team has turned to baseball to find its new Chief Operating Officer.

The Vikings have announced that former Toronto Blue Jays executive Andrew Miller will be the new COO as of September 1. Miller replaces Kevin Warren, who will become the new Commissioner of the Big 10.

“We are thrilled to name Andrew COO of the Minnesota Vikings,” owner and president Mark Wilf said in a statement. “Andrew is a first-class individual, known for his integrity, strong business acumen, and collaborative approach. He cares deeply about people and their development and is acutely focused on every way in which he can improve the organization. Kevin Warren has been an integral part of the Vikings for the past 15 years and helped create a culture we are all proud of. We think Andrew is a tremendous addition to our organization, and will help us continue to build on that foundation, while always putting the utmost importance on our fans and our community.”

Miller also spent 10 years with the Cleveland Indians, working with Mark Shapiro.

“I am honored to join an organization with such a deep tradition as the Minnesota Vikings and work with the Wilf family, who have demonstrated such a strong commitment to the community,” Miller said. “I am excited to be a part of the Vikings organization and positively impact our fans, who are among the most passionate in all sports. My family and I look forward to immersing ourselves in the state of Minnesota.”

The COO position, primarily if not exclusively a business-only job, has extra meaning in Minnesota, given that owners Mark and Zygi Wilf do not reside there. Miller essentially will be “in charge” of the organization when Mark or Zygi are not physically present. For teams where that approach works, there’s never a question raised. For teams where it doesn’t (like with the Dolphins in past years), it’s always an issue.

Doesn't surprise me. He's been given plenty of opportunities and in my opinion has been the definition of a bust.

It's time to draft a qb why can't the Vikings ever find one? Capt Kirk scares me can the Vikings depend on him, and the kicking curse is ongoing will it ever end

I really did read that Treadwell had been let go imagine my shock when i saw number 11 on the field
