The Dallas Cowboys, already dealing with another injury to Sean Lee, suffered another blow on Tuesday. According to NFL Network's Jane Slater, defensive end Robert Quinn fractured his hand during practice in Oxnard, California and is heading back to Dallas to have surgery. Quinn, 29, is still expected to be ready for the regular season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 8, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told reporters, per ESPN's Todd Archer. The nine-year pro projects to be a key piece on a Dallas defense that includes fellow defensive ends DeMarcus Lawrence and Taco Charlton, middle linebacker Jaylon Smith and weakside linebacker Leighton Vander Esch. The Cowboys acquired Quinn from the Dolphins on March 28 in exchange for a 2020 sixth-round pick. In his lone season in Miami, Quinn started all 16 games and led the team in sacks (6.5). He also added 38 total tackles and two forced fumbles.
Only 8,944 tickets have been sold to Packers-Raiders preseason game in Winnipeg In 15 days, the Raiders host the Packers in Winnipeg. The fans won’t have to worry about lines at the bathrooms. Via Carter Brooks of Game On Magazine in Winnipeg, only 8,944 tickets have been sold to the preseason game. That’s 27 percent of the 33,000-seat capacity at IG Field. One of the problems could be the price point. Via Brooks, the cheapest ticket costs $191.50 Canadian. This equates to $143.70 in American dollars, under the current conversion rate. And that’s a lot of money for a glorified scrimmage in full pads. Even if it’s the supposedly critical third preseason game. (PFT) ________ _______________ Ridiculous prices for a game 1 preseason gig... what were they thinking? Im surprised the sold that many tickets, to be honest.
The 49ers are holding their breath that the injury to Nick Bosa is not serious. Via multiple tweets, the second overall pick was slow to get up after a running play in team drills Wednesday. Team trainers examined Bosa’s lower right leg. Bosa walked off the field under his own power and headed to the locker room, presumably done for the day. 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh did not seem overly concerned after practice, saying, via Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group, “I don’t think it’s anything to worry about.” The edge rusher missed most of last season at Ohio State with a core muscle injury. He played only three games. Bosa missed part of the 49ers’ offseason program after injuring his hamstring.
\ Holy cow, $143 for a preseason game is no way to try and bolster a fan base north of the border. Short of giving Canada a team, I don't see them getting hyped up for the NFL...They already have a subpar league in the CFL, they don't need NFL preseason games to get their football taste buds wet...besides, they probably think their rules are better, because they have been watching it for so long. If they were trying to break into a new market, the TICKETS should have been closer to $50 Canadian/Canadienne. If you want to grate them for high concessions, so be it, but at least get their butts inside the stadium. We get more than 8900 at some of the high school games in the area.
If Washington thought fining holdout offensive tackle Trent Williams for skipping training camp was going to get him to report, people who know Williams say that’s simply not the case. “He’s not coming back. Period,” a source who talked to Williams told JP Finlay of NBCSportsWashington.com. That means Williams’ stance hasn’t changed since PFT reported a week ago that Williams simply had no interest in playing in Washington, where he believes his health was put at risk by the medical staff’s failure to properly diagnose a growth on his head. Williams’ career earnings have topped $95 million, and he apparently doesn’t view $40,000 a day in fines for missing training camp as any major incentive to show up. He may also not care about losing out on his $11 million salary for this year, or the $1.62 million portion of his signing bonus that he could be forced to pay back to the team if he never plays for them again. In other words, Williams hasn’t budged: He wants to be traded, or not to play at all. (PFT)

Robert Nkemdiche has a new squad. The Miami Dolphins signed the defensive tackle, the team announced Thursday. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports Nkemdiche's deal is for one year and worth $1.16 million, per a source informed. The team immediately placed Nkemdiche on the active/physically unable to perform list. The Cardinals parted ways with their 2016 first-round pick last month after three lackluster seasons. Nkemdiche played just 27 games (six starts) for the Cards, totaling 4.5 sacks. Prior to his release in Arizona, he was placed on the PUP list as he recovered from an ACL tear. He was also declared "not in shape" by Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury. Aside from battling injuries throughout his stint with the Cards, he was also arrested in June for speeding and driving with a suspended license. Nkemdiche will get a much-needed fresh start in Miami, and be reunited with former Ole Miss teammate offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil. There is no timeline set for Nkemdiche's return to action. Duke Johnson, Jr. has been traded by the Cleveland Browns to the Houston Texans for a conditional 4th Rd pick (could turn into a 3rd Rd pick if he meets certain incentives).
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...ans-for-a-conditional-2020-fourth-round-pick/ interesting take on the Duke Johnson trade...
Makes sense for both teams. Houston just ditched D'Onta Foreman, so they probably needed a veteran back. Browns will have Chubb and Hunt, so - not sure where DJ would have fit in.
Consider it a win for Cleveland that they were able to trade him for something of value (especially relative to the position) given that he had been pretty clear he wanted to be traded. They also saved cap space on a depth player, which is a good thing. Only problem is, they'll be thinner until (if) Kareem Hunt comes back in full. On Houston's side, they get a guy they know is a weapon, and can be used well in their offense. I think he'll be more than worth it to them. And for Duke, he finally gets to play in an offense that (I think) will value him.
Canadians like the NFL. Not as much in the west (Winnipeg is like the border between east and west) but it rates very highly. Most people aren't stupid. Why pay that much for a preseason game where who knows who the hell plays? Especially when the Bombers have the best record in the CFL playing games that actually matter right now. There is interest in the NFL, tons. They don't need it to build the fan base. The only reason the NFL brought a preseason game to Winnipeg was to get a big fat paycheck on those tickets. Well it backfired.
Cornerback Morris Claiborne spent a long time on the market as a free agent, but he’s found a spot for the 2019 season. Terez Paylor of Yahoo Sports reports that Claiborne is flying to Kansas City on Thursday night after agreeing to terms on a contract with the Chiefs. He’ll take a physical and then, assuming all goes well, formally sign a contract with the team. Claiborne, who started 30 games for the Jets over the last two seasons, will be able to start practicing with the Chiefs right away and he can play in their preseason games, but he won’t be able to help the defense at the start of the regular season. Claiborne has been suspended four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, so others will have to man the cornerback spots until he’s eligible to get on the field. The Chiefs have Kendall Fuller and Bashaud Breeland at the top of their cornerback depth chart. Charvarius Ward, D'Montre Wade, Herb Miller and sixth-round pick Rashad Fenton are behind them. (PFT)
Nick Bosa won’t play in the preseason Nick Bosa‘s first game action of an NFL player won’t come until the regular season. During an appearance on KNBR on Friday, 49ers General Manager John Lynch said that the sprained ankle that Bosa suffered in Wednesday’s practice was significant and will keep him from playing in the preseason. “We won’t see in the preseason and we’ll go from there. . . . We’ll get him right and he’ll be a great player for a long time in this league,” Lynch said, via Matt Maiocco of NBCSportsBayArea.com. Bosa missed time in the offseason with a hamstring injury and didn’t play much for Ohio State last season because of a core muscle injury, so getting him right may be a process that stretches beyond the exhibition season. That wouldn’t be an ideal start to his pro career, although his brother Joey showed that good things can come to those who wait by being named the 2016 defensive rookie of the year after missing the first four games of his first season with the Chargers. (PFT)
I will say, as a University of Miami fan, it is cool to see two versatile Miami RB's teaming up. They missed overlapping by one year - Duke coming in the year Miller got drafted.
Curiosity question...being from Canada and having two options for football since NFL is broadcast there, what would YOU consider an appropriate price for a NFL preseason game? Any other Canadians are invited to chip in on the answer. I would like to see the value in attending a preseason game from a Canadian's point of view.
The Cowboys have not gone a season without a key defensive player being suspended since 2013. They won’t have Robert Quinn to start this season and probably won’t have Randy Gregory. On Tuesday, the NFL suspended Quinn for two games for a violation of the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy. Gregory is indefinitely suspended and has not yet applied for reinstatement, although he is “doing well” in his treatment and personal responsibility plan. Orlando Scandrick (2014), Rolando McClain (2015), Greg Hardy (2015), DeMarcus Lawrence (2016), David Irving (2017, 2018) and Gregory (2016, 2017) are the other Cowboys’ defensive players to have served suspensions since 2014. Those six players missed a combined 52 games to suspensions, 30 of those by Gregory. Scandrick, McClain, Hardy and Irving no longer play for the Cowboys. “I don’t want to comment too much on that,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Thursday at his press conference. “There’s specific circumstances involved with each guy that are different from the others. Obviously, it’s not something we want for our football team. We want all of our players ready to go and ready to play but then we have to respond the right way. And we intend to do that with Robert’s situation.” Having Quinn out for two games, if Gregory still is out, will be a blow to the Cowboys’ pass rush, but they do have depth at the position. “We’re excited about the depth that we have on the defensive line,” Garrett said. “We’ve tried to very deliberately build it over the last few years and I think we’ve done a good job of that. You haven’t seen a lot of the veteran players out here yet. You have DeMarcus Lawrence coming back off an injury, as is Tyrone Crawford and some other guys. We like the group of guys we have and we’ll have competition here over the next three or four weeks to see who is part of our team and what their roles are.” The Cowboys traded for Quinn with the uncertainty of Gregory’s situation. Now, they won’t have Quinn, something they have steeled themselves for “in the last few weeks.” (PFT)
