I agree with your assessment. You can lower your shoulders and keep your head up, if you know what im saying, and not lead with the helmet, but the game is so fast and violent, im a skeered their going to over-react, but maybe I should give them the benefit of the doubt.

Head-hunting and driving through a goal-line pile are 2 different animals and I hope the zebra's can call good games. I am all for the cheap stuff being removed and I hate to see the injuries.

Its going to be tough, but I guess it can be done (proper calling).

 

The Steelers have only had three head coaches since the start of the 1969 season and that’s set to remain the case through at least the 2021 season.

The team announced on Thursday that Mike Tomlin has signed a one-year contract extension. His deal was set to expire after next season and the Steelers missed the playoffs last year, but the team still decided the time was right to affirm their commitment.

“I am pleased to announce we have extended Mike Tomlin’s contract through the 2021 season,” Steelers president Art Rooney II said in a statement. “Mike is one of the most successful head coaches in the National Football League, and we are confident in his leadership to continue to lead our team as we pursue our goal of winning another championship.”

Tomlin is entering his 13th season as the Steelers coach. He’s 125-66-1 in the regular season and 8-7 in the playoffs, including a victory in Super Bowl XLIII that made him the youngest coach in league history to win a Super Bowl.

Every player selected in the first round of this year’s draft has now agreed to a contract.

Thursday opened with two players still looking for deals, but second overall pick Nick Bosa agreed to terms with the 49ers in the afternoon. Quinnen Williams was drafted one pick later and the Jets announced that his deal was done in about the time it takes to make two picks in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Williams did not report to training camp with the Jets rookies last Friday because of issues with the deal that reportedly included how much of his signing bonus would be deferred to next year. According to multiple reports, the Jets backed off their initial demand but some of the money will still be held until Williams’s second season.

The Jets held their first practice of training camp on Thursday and Williams is expected to be there before they get back on the field on Friday.

 

This Bosa brother will not hold out.

Nick Bosa and the 49ers have agreed to a contract and Bosa will make it to the start of training camp, according to multiple reports.

Bosa took his negotiations to the wire, and there was some talk that he could be a holdout like his big brother, Joey Bosa, who had a lengthy contract dispute with the Chargers after they selected him with the third overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. But that won’t be the case.

The rookie deal for the second overall pick is slotted at four years and $33.55 million. The 49ers will also have a fifth-year option.

Now third overall pick Quinnen Williams of the Jets is the only remaining unsigned first-round pick.

 

Khalil Mack: Last year wasn’t good enough

If Bears fans liked what they saw from Khalil Mack‘s first year in Chicago, they ain’t seen nothing yet.

Mack, who is beginning his first training camp as a Bear after arriving just before the start of the regular season last year, said he firmly expects a better season in 2019.

“We’re hungrier than we were last year,” Mack said, via NBCSportsChicago.com. “I’m speaking for myself as well. I’m way hungrier than I was last year. It definitely wasn’t good enough. Just looking forward to this year and getting better.”

Mack said teammates have told him he’s going to love the Bears’ training camp home of Bourbonnais, Illinois.

“I don’t know if it’s sarcastic or not,” Mack said, “but I’m looking forward to it.”

And Bears fans are looking forward to seeing what an even better season from Khalil Mack might look like.

Khalil Mack is one scary player

 

The Los Angeles Rams signed head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead to multi-year contract extensions, the team announced.

The extensions keep the duo in Los Angeles through the 2023 season.

 

Chiefs players are reporting to training camp on Friday and there’s been uncertainty about whether defensive tackle Chris Jones would be part of the group.

There’s no more reason to wonder. Jones’s agents said that their client will be there after missing offseason work as part of a push for a new contract.

“He knows his value and if he has to play out his deal in order to reach free agency, then that’s what he will do,” agents Jason and Michael Katz told Adam Schefter of ESPN. “For now, he’s focused on winning a Super Bowl for Kansas City.”

Jones is in the final year of the contract he signed as a 2016 second-round pick. He’s set to make just under $1.2 million in salary under the terms of that deal.

Jones has played in every game over the last three seasons and is coming off a year that saw him record 40 tackles, 15.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception.

 

Report: Mike Daniels finalizing deal with Lions...



When discussing defensive lineman Mike Daniels‘s release on Thursday, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said that he hoped he wouldn’t have to face Daniels this season.

Rodgers may have to face him twice. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Daniels is finalizing a deal with the Lions.

Daniels took a meeting with the Browns on Thursday before moving on to consider other options. It’s the second time this offseason that the Browns have met with a recently released veteran defensive lineman, but Daniels, like Gerald McCoy before him, opted to sign with a rival of their previous club.

Daniels joins a Lions defensive line group that also added Trey Flowers, Darius Kilgo, Austin Bryant and P.J. Johnson this offseason. Flowers is currently on the physically unable to perform list while Kilgo and Damon Harrison are on the non-football injury list.

 

Ah, I always hate when a team in the division gets better. Shame that the Packers dumping a player directly addresses a weak spot for the Lions...

I wonder why this is. The Browns have clearly had an interest in players at the position, trying to upgrade - what is it that's driven both McCoy and Daniels elsewhere?

 

Could it be a revenge factor? I know Williams and the higher-ups in GB didn't see eye-to-eye, so maybe, he thinks he'll have something to prove to them and try to burn them? Just a wild thought, lol... that's all I got.

I agree with you on rivals getting better, don't likes it. NFC North is tough.

 

...and this too. $7.8 million in fully guaranteed money. Daniels can make a total of $9.1 million under the terms of the deal with the Lions.

 

That may have something to with it.

I doubt the Browns were willing to pony up that kind of cash for a 1 year deal on a player coming off of an injury shortened year (even though Daniels doesn't have a history of injury).

 

Why not? They have the money (last I checked). If anything, the fact that it's one year is a great deal for them - it doesn't eat up the cap they'll need 2+ years from now on re-signing players. They brought him in for a reason - they had to have known the ballpark he was looking for, or else he wouldn't have visited. If they were a few million off, say, he never would've gone in the first place.

 

I guess I was referring to the guaranteed part. I should have been more explicit.

In addition, from what I can tell, they're not interested in a "one and done" scenario for this roster.

 

Seahawks, Bobby Wagner agree to three-year contract extension



Questions about Bobby Wagner‘s contract will not loom over Seattle’s season.

Wagner, the Seahawks’ All-Pro linebacker, has agreed to a three-year extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

The 29-year-old Wagner has been pushing for a new contract all offseason, and now he has a deal both sides can be happy with. Unlike last year, when the Earl Thomas contract situation turned ugly and ended with Thomas giving the finger to Pete Carroll after his last play as a Seahawk, Wagner will be a happy camper.

The Seahawks chose Wagner in the second round of the 2012 NFL draft and he’s been a mainstay of their defense ever since. It’s now looking more likely that he’ll spend his entire career in Seattle.

The Philadelphia Eagles hosted veteran cornerback Orlando Scandrick on a visit Saturday and didn't let him leave without a deal, as Garafolo reported, per a source, that the former Cowboys DB is signing a contract with Philly.

Philly's interest is due in part to cornerback Cre'von LeBlanc being sidelined for the next several weeks by a foot sprain, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source. Rapoport added LeBlanc, who was spotted in a boot Saturday, won't require surgery and is expected to return in time for the start of the season. Scandrick had also recently visited with the Vikings, but the Eagles will now be his last visit. Scandrick played nine seasons with the Cowboys before playing 2018 with the Chiefs.
