Why would you extend a coach for one season unless there was talk of him retiring after that? I get the feeling that this is his last contact. When Ben retires Tomlin and Pouncey are out the door too. Start a New HC and QB together.
I don’t know, he did draft Mason Rudolph. If he actually believes in him, he might sign another contract. He could also want to prove he can be successful without an established HOF bound QB

Ben kinda made the hell out of Tomlin's coaching career. Ben also, though, cost him a super bowl chance or two with crap post-season play imhfo.
