Jesus. The nightmare that keeps on giving. I read about that in my email this morning. What the hell? I thought they found somebody good?
Yeah, fuck. I mean, there's an argument that you CAN put kickers under too much scrutiny, and that letting them get out of their own heads is just as important as anything else. At the same time, having a kicker who can reliably hit a 40-yarder is pretty damn important, so if these guys can't do it, we want to know. Here's what really pisses me off - why this level of scrutiny and effort now? What about last year, when it was plenty evident our kicker fucking sucked, and we should've been on the hunt then? This is as much for the public's good as it is the team's, this highly watched kicker competition. The real discussion is - why wasn't this fixed last year, Pace? Alright, you're right - that discussion is in the past... but it does mean that Pace should be held responsible for fixing the position, going forward. It really doesn't feel like a bunch of unwanted free agents and a kicker his former team was fine with trading away is all that much of an effort for a fix.
I know it would be kind of late with this now, but why couldn't the search of been expanded to include soccer players? Some of those guys can do some amazing things kicking a ball, and their feet are just an extension of their eyes. Plus you have the added benefit of some extreme acting when the rush barely breathes on him.
What happened is we double doinked our way out of the playoffs in an embarassingly Bears fashion, so NOW they are concerned. Agreed the position we are in, is on Pace.
I can't even bring myself to follow this kicking contest in any detail. Kickers annoy the F out of me. You got like 50guys busting their asses to get you in position to win the game then the skinniest prickfuck on the team flushes the whole thing cos he's a mental weakling. F em all. Yep, totally over the Wildcard game
Why would they even bring in a kicker with the name “blew it” in the first place? We’re hard enough on kickers as it is, imagine what the fans would be saying if that guy was doinking kicks lol
As aggressive as Pace as been, he doesn’t make a move for a kicker? Granted, that aggressiveness has worked out, but has cost us about 67 picks from now until 2039, but fuck it. He’s in win now mode clearly, but doesn’t get a kicker? When one of the best kickers of all time practically begs him to bring him back to Chicago? What?
If the Bears figured we couldn't afford him then when they had nobody on the roster, what makes you think that they would think they could afford him now? I don't necessarily disagree with you, but they only so many cookies to give out and they're saving those for a position to be named later.
Robbie Gould is under the 49ers control and they don’t seem to be in any hurry to ship him off. Even as desperate as the Bears are they can’t get silly with the 49ers trade demands. I like the Pinero kid. Seems to be accurate with a strong leg. Zero NFL game experience but I’ll be rooting for him to make it.
They could have afforded him. They chose not to pay him because they knew we were a bad team at that time and they didn’t want to spend that much money on a kicker. We were always 30 million under the cap at that time so not being able to afford him wasn’t a valid excuse. Instead they pocketed the cash and they can’t seem to figure out the position now that they need a reliable kicker.
The issue with Robbie Gould wasn’t over money. It was performance. Gould fell out of favor with Fox and he and Pace decided to dump him when Barth, a kicker who Fox and Pace were familiar with became available. It didn’t help that Gould missed one extra point and had another blocked in the last preseason game. That was the ultimate fuck up. Gould bounces back and Barth sucked.
It was definitely partly about the money. Gould was one of the highest paid kickers in the league around this time. His performance had dipped a little compared to previous seasons, we all saw that, but his actual numbers weren't horrible at all in 2015. Its not like he went through some terrible rut he couldn't pull out of like some kickers have(i think he made the most 50yarders of his career in 2015). A lot of things contributed to Gould getting cut. Being one of the highest paid kickers in the league on a team that wasn't close to the playoffs, unofficially committed to a multi-year rebuild and weren't spending big money, combined with a dip in performance the previous year + 2016preseason(good point). He had also got himself on people's radar for getting involved in the Cutler/Marshall war and this was at a time when they were trying to clean out the locker of "bad characters". Plus he had a HC & GM who couldn't judge kicking talent. Lot of things.
Gould's numbers for his last season as a Bear are barely below his career average. It was a money decision made by a tanking team.
Yes. I get lots of compliments all day long. Mostly from the voices in my head but sometimes they are from external sources as well.
