Oh dear lord.....completely forgot about my Mom's metallic light green 1972 hatchback Pinto until you mentioned yours. Ugliest freakin' color on a car I've ever seen...... That and I remember the chrome coming off the bumpers in flakes when it got older. I got in trouble for "helping the process" by peeling off pieces and trying to see how a big a piece I could get. (heck I was like 9-10yo at the time)

I knew this one guy that gutted out his Pinto or Gremlin and put a 302 in there. He would putter up to the lights and look over to the car next to him and they would look back laughing. He would roll down the window and say, "$200, let's go a quarter mile? Easy money.

Didn't Gremlins come out of the factory with a 304 in them after a few years ??? (Gremlin X) ??

This is going back 35 years, I know he put in a really big rebuilt engine. Not even sure if it was a Pinto or Gremlin.

Back in the day, I knew a guy that put a small block V8 in a Vega. Had to cut out the wheel wells etc. It was a mess. But that thing hauled ass.

I don't know about that. It takes a lot of creativity to stuff a V8 into a spot that was designed for a straight 6 or even a four banger.

I hear you, but endless time brings endless trial and error, and also there's help from dad or an uncle. Who would even want to do something like that in their 40s.
When I was a teen, I played 3 different instrunents played 4 different sports, was into martial arts.
I also worked on my own car, rarely went to a mechanic, did my own bodywork and paint job.

    I aint no genius.
