Carolina matches $8.4, thats easy. the term is the real question. these kids are looking for 5 year deals so they a 2nd shot at breaking the bank, Carolina looking for 7/8 years.

Habs really screwing the Canes here with the Aho deal. i dont hate it.

    * reminder, "GM of the year" Don Sweeney took Zboril, Debrusk and Senyshyn instead of Aho. and Chabot. and Barzal. and Boeser. and Connor. and many other NHL players.

a 1,2 and 3 is peanuts for this kid. Carolina has to match.

The offer is $871 short of having to give up two first round picks.

Absolutely... kinda strange what the Canadiens are doing here, but shame on the Canes for not having settled this before now.

Carolina should wait right up until the 11th hour to match so Montreal is in limbo and cant sign any notable FAs in the meantime

Good point... I just read they have a week to match. I like the way you think. :)

As long as both teams come out worse for it, I'm all about it. If they're gonna mess with each other, I want them both to be losers. Most importantly, I hope Aho gets what he wants out of it. Does it make me a bad sport? In such a tough division / conference, I'll take all the help we can get...

The habs have leverage over the Canes on the signing upfront bonus money. If the Canes bump up the deal to 4 first round compensation territory, the habs would back out.

If the Canes match the offer sheet they will have to pay Aho $21M in his first year. If they offer him more with no upfront money, the habs could be looking at 4 first rounders.

I wouldn't feel comfortable giving him a lot of term.

When these GMs get pissed off at each other over the offer sheets, it doesn't make any sense. It reminds me of a player that delivers a clean hit and then has to fight the other teams goon.

I dont think Carolina can change the deal now that its been signed. they match it or not.
