Yeah and you just have a habit of always posting right after me....and mentioning me.... I'd pay rent to be in your head but I would honestly prefer to move out.
Rodgers - 14 seasons Brees - 18 seasons Brady - 19 seasons Mayfield - 1 season Gee... I wonder why he hasn't had a chance to do that. I mean, for starters... the Patriots haven't been "back-to-back" champions since the 2003/2004 seasons. That said, metrics is precisely the reason they're so good. Belichick is renowned for relying on metrics (tendencies, probabilities, DVOA ranks, etc.) when formulating game plans. So... to re-cap: We're not using analytics, statistics, win-loss records, success as a rookie, success as a first year starter, or even franchise impact to measure a quarterback's seasonal ranking. So I'll ask again... by what bizarre, obscure measuring stick would you prefer we gauge these things by? On a Browns board. On a thread about literally being excited about the upcoming AFC North division and the Browns' chances. With a Top 3 quarterback from 2018 returning as the starter.
That's an ironic thing to say since your buddy is always lurking and commenting on my stuff, despite the fact they've been blocked for years. It's actually a bit... uncomfortable.
I'm not knocking him for it. I'm saying...that it's the reason why you can't say he's better than those guys right now. Is comprehension that hard for you? Phone a friend so they can help you. Not sure what I was drinking when I typed that. Should have said champions 2 out of last 3 years. And no...it's not all about metrics because....there's this.... https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/ne...-asked-about-advanced-metrics-sites-what-hell "What the hell is that? I mean, you could take those advanced websites and metric them – whatever you want," he said. "I don’t know. I have no idea. I’ve never looked at one. I don’t even care to look at one. I don’t care what they say. "As far as a quarterback goes, read the coverage, throw the ball to the open receiver and take the best matchup. That’s what it is in a nutshell. The quicker we’re open, the clearer the picture, the sooner the ball is going to come out. If we don’t have anybody open, who is the quarterback going to throw it to? It’s timing, decision making, execution by the entire offensive team. That’s what the passing game is. "The receivers have got to get open and catch the ball. The quarterback’s got to read the coverage, make the right decision and make an accurate throw. All the metric pages and all of that, I mean I have no idea. You’d need to ask that to a smarter coach than me." Those are direct quotes from Belichick when asked about metrics. So....you were saying? Be excited all you want. If you could find a direct quote from me where it says you shouldn't be excited...by all means please do. And I already said you can use all those things and more....including the eye test (Because I'm starting to wonder if you've ever actually watched a game before) to decide your opinion on who is better than who. My only point is this.....Baker Mayfield isn't a Top 3 QB. You've cherry picked your ass off and done at the ad hominem dance all around it. Even if you wanna use just metrics....Mayfield was 11th in TD% last season while being 9th in INT%. He was 24th in completion % and 12th in yards per attempt. 19th in rating and 22nd in QBR. 17th in yards gained per game played. There is literally no one reason anyone should try to make him out to be a top 3 QB. It just defies all logic.
It's not actually ironic at all because he's not my buddy. I don't know him personally and I am in no way in control of anything he says or does. He is a Bears fan, I'm a Bears fan, and we post on the same board. Perhaps look up the definition of irony sometime? (Let me help...it's the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning) By your logic you're responsible for everything every other Browns fan says on this board.
This is a really good article about Belichick and his style and methods...read that and then come try and tell me this is a guy that is all about metrics... https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...16336a26305_story.html?utm_term=.ed41e8f698f7 If there has ever been a coach that is a proponent of the eye test and how much physical effort a player gives....it's Belichick.
I only have one question and then I would like very much to get this thread back to civil discussion. IF, in order to be a top 3 quarterback in the NFL, he has to be among the very best by " proving over and over again, season after season, that you can perform at or near the top of the players at your position" then how do explain putting Patrick Mahomes in the top 3 ? (You did, about 2 pages back) He was drafted in 2017 and started only 1 game that year (week 17 when the Chiefs rested Alex Smith for the playoffs). Then went on to start all 17 games for the Chiefs in 2018 and won the league MVP. Baker Mayfield didn't have the opportunity to start 17 games last year because of an incompetent Offensive Coordinator and Head Coach (there, I said it, Sammy - happy now?) and STILL set the NFL rookie record for TD passes in a season. ------------------------------------------- That said: IMHO, it's perfectly reasonable for @SAS to be amped up and excited about the QB he was touting before most of us got on board. Does he go overboard at times? Absolutely. So what if he does? Does his fandom affect anyone's bank account or family's health? All I'm asking here is for EVERYONE to set their personal opinions of individual members of this web community aside and, at least, try to have civil discussions about the game we all love.
Can you show me my quote where I put Mahomes in the Top 3? And also maybe quote me where I said it's not okay to be excited?
Nothing personal here... just still awaiting a reply on what metric I'm allowed to use to rank a quarterback's season.
Ironically (there's that word again), you haven't made a point. Irnoically (wow... again?!), you must not know what "ad hominem" is. I haven't resorted to a single personal attack on anyone. *cue Super Hero cartoon narrator voice* Meanwhile... Not to me, but definitely out of line:
It's an anonymous sports message board. Nothing is out of line. If you take offense to words on your computer screen...the problem lies with you not with the person that typed them. If you don't like being called stupid.....cease being stupid. It's a real simple fix.
So you misquote me....deny I said something that I definitely said.....never acknowledge either one.....and then flip me off? Yet in all these conversations I'm always the asshole.
