Yes. And the easiest ways to fill a hole is to not give up asset(s) to fill a hole. EK in Philly then makes it easier to fill a hole via trade. Factor in Fletcher's stated strategy, and it makes sense. At least it makes sense to consider seriously.

EK is a proven Norris. He's young enough still that Father Time shouldn't scare off suitors too much. (His injury history is another matter.) More than one team will be willing to gamble on him. I expect Philly to be in that conversation.

 

but a trade of whom ? you said to not trade any assets? who can they trade that has value for EK? Anyone worth a damn makes too much money to move.

 

I have a hard to believing EK would want to join a non playoff team.

 

There's always the question of, "Do you want to go to a winner, or do you want money?". It's particularly hard to get both.

 

The rumors ive heard is EK will only go to TB or a team of similar caliber, but how they would work out a Cap situation for a guy who wants a huge pay-day is beyond me. They discussed this last night on the CBC during one of the intermissions and they had the same feel' as Matty does, that EK is looking only at a legit Cup contender.

One of them even thought the Rangers might be involved here.

You add a major piece on D for only the price of cap space then you can deal from a position of strength with young D.

Matty, I personally believe Philly should have been a playoff team this season. They were an early season clusterfuck. If I was good enough to have won a Norris, I'd be confident enough to believe that I'd be the difference maker.

 

plus with a new coach and gm this upcoming season and carter hart playing the full season, things should look a lot better in philly. plus their $32 mil in open cap space will be adding a lot of pieces this summer as well. no reason they should not be in the thick of the eastern conference this upcoming season !

 

On the flip-side, Karlsson has been chomping at the bit to become an unrestricted FA for a long while. Maybe he is in it for the money.

 

to be honest Dan, I want to see Fletcher aggressive come July 1st and the opening of FA. THey have the money, so they shouldn't have any excuses to why they didn't get a particular player unless they were outbid by an insane amount of money or contract years.

 

when is it not a clusterfuck there? instability seems to be the only constant in Philly over the past generation. who knows but Id be surprised if Karlsson doesnt go to a contending team..............not a team that could quite possibly make the post season with EK, but an actual contender. TB has a lot of money coming off the books on D. Spezza's $7.5 is coming off the books and Methot's close to $5 is up in Dallas, Vegas has work to do if they wanna entertain the notion of Erik Karlsson but McPhee can wheel and deal with the best of them.

Flyers are on their 6th coach over the past decade. Since 2006 the Flyers have only had 4 seasons where they won more games than they lost. 4 times in the last 13 seasons.

none of the people mentioned- Dan, skinny, Will, or bob blindly defended the team they root for. when mistakes were made and clusters were fucked they've acknowledged it and written about it. i'd like to think that i bash the Broonz on here as much as anyone, perhaps Im wrong.......either way Im not gonna have a temper tantrum when someone states the obvious.
