Do you think life has a purpose?

You need to watch the video that goes further than that, as in up to that point it wasn't even 1% of the universe's evolution. Now that is extra depressing.

It might be the same video actually, assuming light from black holes but then that isn't even the start. Sad.

I have it earmarked to watch when I have time.

There are like 5 or 6 videos in the same series I think.

The last line before a quote "Time becomes meaningless". At that point it's almost like the Big Bang but backwards. We can't know what came before the big bang if the universe was actually born from something else. Here if you end up there you will never know how old the universe is as there are no clues to deduce it. It could be 1 googol years old or a googolplex. And that is probably way off since it's infinite. Fucking crazy.

So imagine, everything I am typing now was always meant to be from the beginning of time. What if random wasn't random at all? Like I mean at all. I don't mean stuff happening for a reason. I mean every little thing that has ever happened was simply a cause and effect. I only think and do and I really have no choice. My choices aren't really choices. It was always going to be made the same way. We are all watching ourselves simulated.

It's not just plausible. It may just be how it really is. It's probably the likely thing. All those sick and dumbass fucks? Technically not their fault. They are watching themselves do and think what was always gonna be.

Alternative realities and infinite parallel universes where the slightest change in every instant creates another reality in a parallel universe? Well it could all be bullshit from the simple possible fact that there always was and always will be a predetermined path to every little thing in he universe including where and how particles and photons and shit behave and move.

Seriously though, that is plausible AF.

i hate to use a movie reference, so basically like the movie THE MARTIAN and a little hub village like NASA had ?

  6. Catfish Guest

physically possible to have 80,000 people survive on Mars ? i gotta check that out sometime...

if i never mentioned a movie and said exactly the same thing that i don't believe any of it you would still have a problem with it.

my belief in God is my own belief. my non-belief in a colony on Mars or Elon Musk's plan to travel to Uranus is my own. You don't believe in God, but do believe in time travel or parallel universes/time lapses. I don't agree, but I'm not chastising you for it and putting your beliefs on front and center. that's what you're doing now. then you have the audacity to say im cherry picking etc. it's my own belief. i can do whatever i want. you do what you want. im not bashing you for it. you go to your corner of the planet and i'll go to mine.

As for Mars why can't we colonize it? At the moment its conditions are no good on the planet level but biomes could be made and eventually we could create an atmosphere and bring it to habitable conditions. We need to give it a mild greenhouse effect but we'd need to get carbon dioxide for it and we can't and shouldn't simply give them ours if we cant get it from Mars itself. Once we have it regulated it should be good to go onto actually getting certain minerals and life started to adapt. Could it go to shit? Well ya but we are already doing that on this planet.

And if God let's us selectively breed crops and stuff why can't we just move to another rock?

    Good stuff.

Yes....if it's done correctly it is physically possible.

I'm not chastising your beliefs. It's the logic that goes in to them I question.

It's like laughing at someone for believing in the flying spaghetti monster but getting defensive when your god is questioned.

You can certainly do whatever you want. And you can believe in whatever you want. Those beliefs are yours. But you shared them with me on this thread which means I can question them.

You're welcome to come to my corner anytime you want. I'll even buy you a coke or a fruit punch or whatever it is you drink these days.

The biggest problem currently with Mars colonization would be gravity, or the lack of enough.

There's actually a sweet spot in the atmosphere of Venus that has the same gravitational pull as Earth, but we would need to colonize the sky, so the difficulties in making it work change. However, it's closer than Mars and would cost less to travel to, so the idea that we are not looking to make both trips is a bit of a head scratcher to me.

This is the very heart of the discussion, IMO.

Organized chaos is a very likely scenario, where the set rules of our universe, or the one we perceive ourselves in, actually dictate outcomes beyond our understanding because we see the events unfold over a lifetime through a gamut of emotions and false perceptions.

That's why the thought of an A.I. making leaps forward that we never possibly could makes so much sense. Not only would a sentient computer have an learning curve far beyond our own ability, but it would also grow beyond our perceptive boundaries that are impossible for rational beings to avoid.

It's also the reason why it would have no empathy, and truly not give a shit about exterminating us as a means to an end, lol.

Venus high and Mars low. The pressure is only good at lower elevations for liquid water. The planet is only about 40% of the gravity and 10% of the atmosphere of Earth. The thing is that it's hypothetically easier to manipulate Mars' atmosphere to get it stable if there is enough, and the correct, matter to stabilize it underground than it is to get Venus to work if its upper atmosphere is unstable. It just has to be there or harvest-able somehow in space. Once you have the atmospheric pressure up and the greenhouse gas process stabilizes then Mars is ready to get serious.

We are probably alive at the most advanced we will ever be before machines kill us all. Or we are already almost there.

Now some basement fuck is gonna read this in his basement in 200 years and laugh as his robot wife feeds him Doritos.

And to tack on one more aspect of this relevant to the conversation from prior -

@Will and @BearsWillWin can both be right in this scenario.

There can be a God that has set in motion a turn of events that lead to a defined conclusion, or it could just be random happenstance guiding a rudderless ship.

Both possibilities exist depending on how literal your interpretations of different aspects for whatever religion you follow, or how strictly you are willing to decipher the seeming randomness at play.

Agreed, but the overriding positive with Venus is if you can suspend your colony in that honey zone you eliminate a lot of question marks regarding both human health and the ability to harvest in a confined environment. The long term affects on growth rates and the ability to have a stable guideline to work with trend back in your favor if you can recreate the exact gravitational situation we have here on Earth.

That is, until we discover an alien form of vegitation on some future hospitable planet that may have a different gravitational degree.

There are some exciting breakthroughs happening in the sex robot industry so I expect to be invited to your ever nearing wedding.

I'm willing to make the trip to Hamilton, but I want some tickets to a Tiger-Cats game and some of that bacon jam to go with my multiple, multiple lagers.

Probably the Japanese. But would I use it? It's already predetermined by cause and effect.

I'd honestly freak the fuck out and never be able to get it up.

You're paying for those beers yourself. They'll cost more than the tickets.

Looked it up. Of course it was them. At least it's out of not at the bottom of the uncanny valley. Instead of simply not going up I'd think it'd go into hiding if it was one of those super creepy ones.

As for the bacon jam, I seriously gotta find a proper recipe or store product for it. I've only ever had it at restaurants but it's good.

EDIT: I watched it further in and I think I shrunk. It is creepy AF.

Not necessarily a sex robot as far as I know. I am NOT looking that up.
