A lot of factors to playoff success to be able to point it to one single thing.

There's players in old deals that are overachieving, hot goaltenders, a team executing a system down pat.

There's also the age of the core and past experience that comes into play, the leadership, the coaching.

You don't necessarily need a stud D, you could have 4 guys that make $4.5M combined AAV standing in front of a strong goalie. That combined with an explosive offense up front, or vice-versa.

Ultimately, you have to really want it bad and not quit working hard.

Like Wheeler said, "fk, you kidding me? There's 31 teams, it's a tough trophy to win."

 

Well, that's my point. You don't have to assemble the 'rich n famous', you have to have a team, a coach, a GM and chemistry... and a whole lotta Puck Luck !

 

If you have an expensive few, there's no money to fill other needs. You need a real savy GM and a great farm system to bring in players on EL deals.

 

For the Bruins..... you needed TB and Washington to lose. Pitt losing doesn’t hurt either.

 

and bettman not suspending your players on questionable hits like Marchand.

 

Are you actually suggesting that the reason the Bruins are in the ECF is because Bettman didn’t suspend Brad Marchand?

 

of course not. gotta jab at the bruins somehow .

out of the last 4 teams, boston is the deepest and has the most skill and should win the cup. however, marchand and the other bruins player avoided suspension time from the wheel of shanny quite nicely. both calls were judgment calls on a suspension or not. the league chose not to act.

Good news for the Avs and Mac.

 

Avs expected to be aggressive in FA. They have some exceptional young talent. A fourth overall pick plus their own first. (Thank you Ottawa!)
This season established that they have arrived as a perennial playoff contender (at least in their eyes) and they want to become legit. SC contenders.

I like their chances at achieving that objective.

 

I'm surprised more teams didn't jump on Gusev, looks like found money for Vegas.
