Just about every post in these forums is an opinion, Joe. I mentioned it elsewhere but, my opinion is Caddyshack isn't even a sports movie. It's a comedy set on a golf course about stereotypical country club members and the people their country Club hires to see to their needs. Sure, it has a sub-plot about a caddy trying to win the club championship but I'll bet if you ask ten people what they remember about Caddyshack, nine of them will answer, "a gopher".
can't they be both ? nothing i say matters as you guys have an answer for everything.ask someone what is the most watched sports movie and i doubt Titans is on there. therefore, if people haven't seen compared to the others based on their sheer popularity, how could anyone think it's the greatest sports movie ever ?? good, popular, call it whatever you want. i just don't think many sports fans have seen Titans and know how great it is vs other sports movies. it's like Diggstown. A solid sports movie people have barely seen ! I have most of Woody Allen movies. However, one of his best ones is a movie few saw - Cassandra's Dream. Same for Hitchcock - one of his best movies was near the end of his life - Frenzy. Most people never even heard of it. Titans fits that bill vs Rocky, which one the Best Picture Oscar and has had many sequels, The Natural bc of Robert Redford, Hoosiers bc of Gene Hackman etc. Hell even Major League has it's fanbase among HS and college kids. I don't think Titans has that.
Chevy Chase and Bill Murray were sorta peaking in their respective careers when they came out with Caddyshack. It's much better if you lived and can remember the era. For a 7th grader at that time, Caddyshack was absolutely epic. It's always gonna be an all timer in my book. It can be debated as far as if it's a sports movie for sure. It's a party movie. Great comedy. I forgot how many weed references there were in that movie. lol! It's pretty much throughout the whole deal. Chevy, Bill and Dangerfield were all great in that movie, but I've always thought it was Ted Knight that really stole the show. Judge Smails was just unforgettable.
for a tv actor in i think his only movie role Knight was great. although he hated all the fooling around on set by the younger cast, he totally understood the script of the slobs vs the snobs. almost every scene he's in is funny. and this is my favorite... IT SLIPPED !
then how do you know Slapshot isn't on tv a lot in the limited amount of tv you watch ? that's not fair to really say then ? I only see Titans on 1 channel when they air it for 3-4 weeks in a month and that's the only time i see it. the NATURAL is on MLB Network all the time. Slapshot is on the Encore channels a lot. Caddyshack was on cable tv more in the late 80's than now.
Fair point. Whenever I have the TV on, I NEVER see Slapshot, while I see Remember the Titans frequently. Maybe I just don't go far enough down the dial (to use an antiquated term).
Sometimes that's the way it feels! Then again, by the time I'm ready to chill at night it's already 10:00; I usually just read or catch up on the days' news for a half hour or an hour and then turn in.
damn axe you have a long day ! yeah 10 pm is near bedtime. a lot of my shows ended, so i have much less to watch. most shows i watch now are mini-series of 8-10 a season tops. very quick. i try not to get invested in 20-22 episodes seasons. just too damn long.
I had almost forgotten that there is also a 10:00pm. There's a reason I call my recliner the "Body Snatcher".
i love my recliner. im a late night owl, so 10 is early for me. i sometimes put a movie on at 10. haha.
i work 5 min away from where i live and we have flex hours, so i can be in at 8 and leave at 4 or 9 and leave at 5. a co-worker gets up at 4:30 am every day and gets ready and gets to work at 7:30 and she leaves at 4. fuck that. 4;30am M-F? I would kill someone. im not a early bed person. even when i had different jobs, i just can't go to bed early. too much stuff im missing out on etc. i sleep in until 8:25, use the shower and bathroom and im in work at 9 on the nose. 4:30 am? wtf are you doing ? now she's a woman who has her hair all fancy everyday, but that's too damn early to be up. hell, if the movie is short, i'll put it on at 11pm and watch it till 12:30. haha.
I'm up at 5:15am every day. Feed the cats, breakfast/coffee, shave/shower, out the door by 7:30. At the train station 7:45, train gets to CC 8:45, I'm at my desk from 9:00 until 5:20. Catch the 5:40 train, I'm home 6:45; get my lunch ready for the next day, get to the gym 7:30-7:45. Home by 9:00, grab a quick bite to eat, quick shower, relax for an hour or so. Rinse, repeat...
