I don't care what anybody says, Cherry is one of the games all-time greats in my book. Is he off the wall sometimes? Yes, but who the hell isn't from time to time. Love that guy and will miss him and his passion when he is gone. I sure hope he has a few more seasons left in him... and so do I, lol.

Last night they had a segment on Jeff Petry, they showed his dad Dan. He said the only reason why his son became a hockey player was because he loved watching coaches corner when he was a tiger.
Jeff was a baseball player and switched to hockey in michigan.

again cherry attacks the carolina hurricanes and calling out their bandwagon fanbase. i know this guy is a legend in Canada, but can someone put him out to pasture ? please. he's off base and wrong here and needs to shut up. the stormtrooper coat however, was fantastic.

 

Isnt he, like you and me and everybody else entitled to their own opinion????

I saw the show live and a replay of it... I get where he's coming from. I don't agree with everything he said either, but he makes some spot on points.

One thing about Cherry that a few don't realize is he is a purest of very old fashioned and straightforward ways. He holds no punches and shoots straight from the hip, he doesn't care what the general population might think, he's a free-wheeler with an old attitude. He really believes in the good ol' days of hockey being able to sustain itself with un-bushlike show-boating.
I also think he's right on about more than half the fans in attendance these days. Where's the support now for the struggling teams? Why so many empty seats in Detroit? Because al lot of these fans are band wagoners who support a team that's winning and kick them when their down, period.

If you like NHL hockey the old fashioned way, without crybaby's and support the team when they suck, hats off to ya! But just because a team turns around and then the building fills up whats he supposed to say and think? Where were these fans when their team sucked?

Cherry also has an axe to grind with people who make fun of him and what he says and then turn it around for gain/profit... Cherry is the best and I LOVE THE GEEZER !

 

so now it's an opinion thing Will ? might as well pack it up then and not saying anything anymore. Fine, MY OPINION is he's wrong and out of touch with today's NHL. It's not the 1970's, which he still wants to be in. Cherry has had it out for the Canes for months now. Why? Because they're not his beloved Maple Leafs ? They're not the Bruins? wtf is his beef anyways? Jerks? Screw him! I agree the celebrations were not needed and cheesy. calling out their fans for being bandwagon, when their building has been one of the loudest these playoffs? screw him. old fart wouldn't know what a good crowd looks and sounds like.

 

You are mis-reading me, Cat. Of course YOUR opinion means something and so does Cherry's... that's the whole point. YOU and Cherry can say anything you want. YOU started this by calling out Cherry, I then responded with my thoughts/opinions, whats the big deal or point you are trying to make? I never said one word about YOU not being able to express yourself, but YOU threaten to pack it up?

Share your thoughts, I don't mind at all. We all arnt cookie-cutter people and see things differently, thank God and we all have different opinions and idea's... so do I, so does Cherry and so do you. You dont like what he said, I get that. I don't give a hoot to be honest, one way or another. You like what you like and Cherry does the same. That's all im trying to express.

 

but your response of "everyone is entitled to their own opinion??" this guy has been a blow hard for 30 years. sometimes it's funny. sometimes he's spot on. sometimes he's wrong. just like Barry Melrose and Mike Milbury are wrong often! no one but him has a beef with the Carolina Hurricanes. it's only him. that's why im pissed. he called them "jerks," and now attacking their fans calling them "bandwagon." Pretty bold claims there. What's his problem? i think he's out of touch with today's NHL and bc his beloved Leafs are no longer in the playoffs, he has to take a shot at another team. to me, he's old and losing a grip on reality. people his age are in senior living homes !
