I don't think Bell and Brown were the only weapons on that offense, but they were definitely Ben's favorite when they were available. Ben has not proven, over the last several years, that he's an efficient, mistake-free passer. Committing to him for another two years at a time when both your offense and defense need serious retooling feels... ill advised. When those two years are up, your drafted QB's contract will also be up, meaning that you'll have wanted to see what he can do for you in advance of that. I guess the good news is that it's only two years. I just don't think it should really be any years...
He's already played one season without Bell. The cupboard isn't bare, he's got Juju and Conner, Moncrief. Plus McDonald, and Washington started to turn it on at the end of the season. Eli Rogers and Switzer are good options out of the slot. Thats 3 proven weapons and a few more potential weapons, and this is still before the draft.
Cardinals trade Josh Rosen to Miami... Josh Rosen can now start following the Dolphins on Twitter and Instagram. The Cardinals have traded Rosen, the 10th overall pick in the 2018 draft, to the Dolphins. Arizona gets the 62nd pick in round two, which Miami acquired from the Saints after trading down from No. 48. As explained earlier today, the trade didn’t happen until the pick obtained by the Cardinals was on the clock, to eliminate the chances of the Cardinals being leapfrogged before using the pick obtained from the Dolphins. With that 62nd pick, the Cardinals took Massachusetts receiver Andy Isabella. The Cardinals also receive Miami’s 2020 fifth-round pick. To summarize, then, the Cardinals gave up their 2018 first-round pick, 2018 third-round pick, and 2018 fifth-round pick for one year with Josh Rosen, Andy Isabella, and a fifth-round pick next year. They also paid Rosen more than $11 million, transferring to Miami a contract that pays out only $6.2 million over the next three years. (PFT)
What's the easiest way to the #1 overall pick on a semi bad team? Start a rookie QB of course. When you look at the big picture, they would have spent a hell if a lot more trying to move up high enough to get one of the good rookies last year...so they chose the "worst of the top" rookies. To move up from #15 to #1, the Rams paid (2) 1st, (2) 2nd and (2) 3rd...and got a 4th and 6th back. Some of those were future picks, but their first and (2) 2nds were current. The Cardinals only paid (2) 1sts, (1) 3rd and (1) 5th...and got back a 2nd and a 5th in future picks. In essence, they made a futures investment in the #1 overall pick and actually made out pretty well.
I'd consider them fortunate to have been able to move Rosen to Miami for anything, lol. Then they land #1 in the 2019 Draft. Mistakes and mis-management to begin with, but they bailed themselves out nicely. Now if they can get Kyler some weapons and pick up some other key players with their additional capital, they will be the luckiest team in the NFL...
Ironically, that is exactly what the Browns did to get Baker Mayfield as well...is there a trend starting? Maybe the Giants took Jones on purpose because they felt future rookie QBs are going to be better...no need to accidentally win with Haskins and lose out on the chance at #1 overall.
I'm sorry but that might be some of the worst logic I've ever read. So now it's a good strategy to throw away 1st round picks in order to tank with a QB you don't really want....so later on your can get a #1 pick and pick the QB you actually want? That's spinning it to make it look like that was the plan all along. There's no way it was. If you were gonna go that route....wouldn't you just sign a crappy FA QB for cheap and start him....and use your picks for players at other positions that can help the team?
Oh, man. I wish someone would be warned me - I don't have my tinfoil hat ready. Give me just a minute!
Hey idiots, not everything written on the internet is to be taken literally. Sometimes people actually write things in jest. Chill out.
Well you’re not exactly known for your humor and satire....so forgive me if I misunderstood. Even though I really don’t think I did.
So, you really thought someone on here theorized that teams are following each other's lead and purposely drafting QBs to lose in order to get a #1 overall draft pick? The thought went to tin foil hats instead of a joking around post? Ok, I'll try to not post anything that isn't specifically plausible in the future.
Well....you kinda did theorize it. So.... The tin foil hat comment wasn’t mine. Didn’t you just say chill out? You’re taking this awfully serious.
Report: Broncos to sign Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien... Joe Flacco is in his prime, but the Broncos continue to add young quarterbacks who could be around for a while. According to Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic, the Broncos are signing undrafted quarterback Brett Rypien. Rypien, from Boise State, is reportedly getting a “six-figure guarantee” as part of the deal. Such deals generally include a smaller bonus and a base salary guarantee for the coming year. The Broncos drafted Missouri’s Drew Lock in the second round, and also have Kevin Hogan and Garrett Grayson on the depth chart at the moment. Rypien, the nephew of former Washington quarterback Mark Rypien, completed 67.3 percent of his passes for 3,705 yards last year, with 30 touchdowns and seven interceptions. (PFT)
lol, I thought the same thing. He's been around 11 years, he's not in his prime, but according to John Elway, who's apparently lost his mind, Joe is in his prime as that's what he reported to NBC in an interview yesterday or the day before.
Yeah, I don't understand anyone who furthers the narrative that Joe Flacco isn't on the Broncos just to save face while they look for an actual QB. It's one thing for Elway and the team to say it - it's another thing for anyone to entertain them and parrot it. Flacco's going to play there for as long as they fail to find a promising QB to take over. Though, given Elway's track record, that could be a very, very long time...
Tom Brady will never retire, purely out of spite. He lives to simultaneously tell people that he's not a bad guy and antagonize them by being a bad guy all at the same time. If he were to be relieved of that spotlight, I'm pretty sure his body would crumble to ash, and his demonic soul would return to the hell from which it sprung forth. And on its way back, it'd be screaming the whole time, "This is for all the people that doubted me!", even though no one doubted him after, at most, his first few years in the league. And after all that, Bill would just summon another damned soul to this plane, and shackle them to an offensive system that made them seem far, far more talented than they actually are.
