Did you even read the part of RT's post I quoted? Specifically the sentence in it that I emphasized with bold italics text and underlined? I was referring to myself, you nitwit !!!
Well there ya go. Half of life's problems are miscommunications... That's certainly not how it came across to me...You posted that directly after I had posted. Surely you can see how I could have interpreted it another way.
Not if you read the entire post including the high-lighted sentence in the quote. And, don't call me Shirley.
I'm going to do this carefully. First off, I think you missed Lym's point. I think he meant he knows of only one fan who "disliked" the Browns efforts (himself). If I'm right about that, you took his statement backwards. Secondly, you not liking my rankings was approximately as predictable as the sun rising this morning. You mention Kirksey and FA signings responding to my rankings. But none of that is what I'm ranking. I was looking at the original allotment of picks every team was given (1-7) and the impact I believe they turned that into ultimately (impact of players acquired with those picks and future assets). So my grades have zero to do with players they already had and guys they signed in FA. I don't have the mental bandwidth or time to remember every player every team signed or look it up while doing this. Simply my quick and dirty rankings of what I thought the original 7 picks turned into. I do like what the Browns did overall. But I do think they did some reaching, and perhaps could have focused more on their weaknesses. I have very little doubt they are a better team going into 2019 than they were going into 2018. What they did do was provide fans like yourself with splashy names (OBJ/Greedy) to be excited about going into next year. It started with the drafting of Baker, and continued on this year. They're building an attitude over there, as much as a team, maybe more. And they're doing it very well right now. I do like where the Browns are headed. But if you read the next two rankings after CLE you'll see me saying I like every draft from here on. It sounds crazy, but when you're looking at the teams goals and how they believe they've achieved them, barring any bad reaches it's easy to call their draft a success, especially if I do a good job of turning off my own beliefs about the players they selected. And I don't always succeed at that. But I tried. This is just for fun anyways. I expect some amount of criticism. I was reading responses to "The Scores" grades, and they're downright cruel at times. And humorously enough, the complete opposite of each other's opinions in many cases.
And even in my ranking I pretty much acknowledged that I thought that ranking might be one that stood out. I know the Texans very well. Matter of fact, I believe I texted you last season during one of their primetime games to say something along the lines of "God these guys might have a bottom 5 OL on paper and on film, they need some help". So while it can be argued they reached, and you may not specifically love the players they took, I personally feel much better about who they took. OL and TE were probably two of the biggest necessities for them, followed by CB. And they got high upside (albeit not guaranteed to succeed) players, at those positions. I'm not Lonnie's biggest supporter among this group, but I appreciate what they're trying to do. As far as addressing their needs in an orderly fashion with players with potential I feel like the Texans did about as good a job as any team this year. Omenihu is very interesting in the 5th as well.
Your opinion of the Browns draft is fine RT. I have no problem with it...I only took exception to the one line about the Run D, and "bleeding points".... It's not a big deal. You made it seem like our defense is a complete sieve but whatever. It's fine... Yes, evidently I did misinterpret Lym's remark. I had to re-read it about three times to get where he was coming from...I still say if you are following along the thread, that was an easy one to take the wrong way. My bad, though...
Well again, I did it quick and dirty. Looked at a magazine and the Browns D ranked 25th against the pass and 28th against the run last year. It was almost midnight and I was getting pretty tired. I may have overstated the issues a bit. Greedy is a guy who could bump a draft grade up 5 slots or down 3 slots, depending on team needs and perspective. Obviously he might help the pass D numbers. But that didn't suit my argument, so you'll notice you don't see it there, lol. Ultimately I think the Browns are better. And more importantly the 53 guys in the locker room believe it. That equals extra effort on the field. When I was trying to rank 32 drafts it shocked me how hard it is to narrow down the middle 15-18 teams. You know 5-6 you just don't like. In my case it was easy to find the top 11 (just had to narrow those down after). But the 16 in between, from 12-27 for me were much tougher. I told Joe if I re-rank these every day for the next 5 days they likely never stay in the same order. Just a matter of perspective.
This isn't necessary. I mean, you put your opinions out there to generate responses right? If not, why do it at all? I only read your Browns review, because that's the only team I really care about. I didn't agree with some of it, so I responded. Isn't that what we do here?
Sorry I missed this Will...Yeah, Lindor is back. We got the Astros tonight on Sun Night Baseball (ESPN)
Your rankings and the difference between ours. + is I'm higher, - is I'm lower. 1. Dolphins -4 2. Bills +1 3. Patriots -6 4. Raiders -12 5. Broncos +2 6. Jaguars = 7. Bears -3 8. Packers -9 9. Redskins +2 10. Cardinals +6 11. Steelers -3 12. Titans +10 13. Panthers -2 14. Chiefs -12 15. Texans -17 16. Ravens +5 17. Eagles +9 18. Colts +6 19. Buccaneers -9 20. Chargers +2 21. Seahawks -2 (my good drafts start at 21) 22. Bengals +3 (your good drafts start at 22) 23. Vikings +10 24. Browns +2 25. Giants +5 26. Lions +1 27. Saints +3 28. Rams +1 29. 49ers = 30. Jets -1 31. Cowboys +1 32. Falcons +11
I consider anything higher than 6 significant but I'd also include the Giants even if the difference is only 5 because they were in my good drafts but not yours. 4. Raiders -12 8. Packers -9 12. Titans +10 14. Chiefs -12 15. Texans -17 17. Eagles +9 19. Buccaneers -9 23. Vikings +10 25. Giants +5 32. Falcons +11
I was potentially too hard on the Falcons and Eagles. You really let your feelings about Gary effect your Packers grade I think. And I’m guessing the big difference in our KC grades is how we viewed the Frank Clark trade
@LAOJoe and @RTTRUTH I'll get you guys my thoughts on your write ups sometime Wednesday. I'm taking my mandatory post-draft 3 day vacation.
It's in your contract with yourself through the union where you are the employee, union president and employer. It's gotta be tough when you need to decide to strike or hold out. Do you cross the picket line?
This surprised me when I read it because it's really the first time that someone else has suggested Miami may have quietly had the best draft in this class. Even the die-hard Fins people I speak with regularly were all lukewarm on Grier's first go at it. I said it early in the off-season and this only reinforces my opinion - Eric Grier was the right hire for the Dolphins to become competitive quickly in the AFC East.
