Seeing as road repairs and periodic maintenance are typically funded by gas taxes, and electric/hybrid cars do the same amount of damage as their gas counterparts (maybe more due to the fact that they weigh more than their gas powered counterparts), I can see the logic behind this.

I agree with you. It's just that the bill singling out a small group of folks to make up for the taxes instead of coming up with another way to tax the population as a whole. The electric car folks are doing their part to make a cleaner/greener planet. Car fuel pollution takes quite a toll on the environment and health of citizens. If NC would admit the climate change reality, then the rest of the population gas engine driving should have to pay more than the electric car folks.

I tend to think singling out a small group for taxing is usually a voter/ballot issue such as the Cleveland sin taxes when they were raising money for the new Browns'/Indians' stadiums back in the day. I know, this is apples and oranges, but nobody had to buy liquor/beer and cigarettes if they didn't want to. And maybe these electric car folks bought their cars and viewed it as not having a choice if they wanted to help curb pollution and such.

Furthering my point/thought is the fact that just about everywhere funds their schools on property taxes even if you don't have kids. However, you do get to vote on those and good schools generally leads to better property values

You are correct in it's an apples to oranges comparison. Electric/Hybrid cars do, in fact, reduce air pollution. And, because of that, their owners get a a federal tax credit as a reward. But, the fact remains that electric/hybrid cars STILL abraid the roads just as much (maybe more) than their gas powered counterparts but their owners end up paying a smaller amount for road upkeep due to less gas tax being paid.

Schools are a more convoluted topic. Joe Blow owns a house in Ohio and pays property tax on it (most of which goes to the area school(s). If he and Mrs. Blow decide to home school their children, they don't get any property tax relief. Why? Because the local school(s) are still required, by law, to provide various services and support to families that home school.

North Carolina diverts 12% of the funds raised through gasoline taxes to non-transportation repairs and maintenance. Drop that to 11% and they cover the difference.

Florida man gropes technician who was fingerprinting him for disorderly conduct charge

This hands-on suspect wasn’t hard to catch.

A Florida man busted for disorderly conduct in a bar upped the ante by groping the fingerprint technician at his booking.

Jack Dylan Evans started his Wednesday afternoon by harassing the female owner of a watering hole where he’d been asked to leave, according to court papers obtained by the Smoking Gun. He then accosted the officer fingerprinting him in Pinellas County, Fla., because "she was sexy.”

The 44-year-old perp was apprehended afternoon after shouting obscenities inside Down the Hatch bar, then telling the proprietor he wanted to have sex with her, according to the report. Cops said their arrival didn’t slow Evans down, whose foul-mouthed tirade continued after he was apprehended.

At the station, he groped a fingerprint technician, according to the report.

“The (defendant) reached with his left hand down to the victim’s right buttocks area and rubbed the area as the victim was fingerprinting the subject as part of the booking process,” the report said. That act was allegedly caught on video and battery was added to Evans’ charges.

Her bridesmaid, Cyndi Lundeberg, is furious. The Las Vegas journalist said she just found out. And her husband may feel the repercussions.

Gee she is a journalist but didnt know the draft was happening in Nashville the same weekend as the bachlerotte party? Even in not a sports journalist I feel like if you are going to call yourself a journalist you should have known.

I thought you called that type of a person a hero? No? Albeit a bad hero, since as soon as her realized this was a 200 lb man coming over the edge, he backed off the "rescue".

It’s not often people try to get into jail, but the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office said two people told jail staff they were detectives in an attempt to get a friend out.

Francine Olson and Brandon Reyes, both of DeSoto County, Florida, face charges of impersonating a law enforcement officer after they tried to get into the DeSoto County jail, according to a Facebook post from the Sheriff’s Office.

Olson and Reyes told dispatchers they were new detectives and tried to get into sheriff’s office vehicles, the post said. The pair talked to staff through an intercom at the jail entrance.

The sheriff’s office said Reyes and Olson were trying to get George Chanza, “their partner,” out of jail.

Chanza was arrested Friday on a warrant, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The two have since been reunited with their partner,” the sheriff’s office posted.
