Actually . . . scratch all that shit. He was signed last year (2018) to a two year contract. I was thinking about Eric Kush when I wrote that.

    Gid,

You CAN teach an old DAWG new tricks ;)

It's really not a new trick. I've been using computer based spreadsheets since around 1990. I cut my teeth on Lotus 1-2-3.

Keeping with the sharing of the Depth Chart, the following is a screen shot of my draft board used in the L4SN GMO exercise. The overall rankings are the average ranking of at least three separate draft sites.

NOTE: The green status indicator to the left of a players name indicates that that specific player was listed on every web site. Obviously, players projected to be drafted on day 1 or day 2 all had a green indicator. However, the farther down the list you go, there will be some players that were not included on each source web site. For those, I weighted the average by multiplying the average by 1.15 for those that had only two and by 1.25 for those that had only one. Once the average ranking was determined and weighted (if applicable), Then the entire list was sorted by the average ranking and then numbered 1 through 513 and an overall ranking was established. Next, I sorted the entire list by Position with a secondary sort criteria of overall ranking. I then assigned a positional ranking based on this result. I then resorted the entire list by Overall Ranking and assigned a projected round to each player through simple math.

Given that our first pick is Rd 2-17 (49), I highlighted the players on my list that fall close to that spot. I strongly doubt that T.J. Hockenson, TE - Iowa will still be there as he has moved up on a lot of sites since this list was put together. Devin Bush, ILB - Michigan is another riser that I don't believe will be still be there. But, you never know.

So, take a peek at the Depth Chart posted on the prior page and tell me who you would take at Rd 2-17.

Wow. I agree with many of these rankings, but hat's the lowest I've ever seen Dillard by over 30 picks....

That's where the math put him.

You also have to remember TD, this mapping was done when most websites had their original first draft big boards out. The GMO draft is pretty early in the season of mocking. I bet if Lym re-did this today, or even waited one more week for the final big boards to be posted, it would look a lot different.

Either way, it's impressive, that's a lot of work. The only flaw is that many of the lazy websites probably skew the results, even in the early stages. They may have them ranked by what they did in the 2017 season, just by eliminating those underclassmen that didn't declare for the draft. Every one is on a deadline, and most of these websites rely on others work to get theirs done, instead of actually watching the athletes during the season and re-watching tape in the early off season to actually determine their own draft board.

Looking at that particular board though, if Bush were still there to start the draft on Friday night...Dorsey needs to be busy on the phone trying to move up...He won't be, but that would be something I would wholeheartedly be in favor of.

A more realistic move would be Julian Love or Taylor Rapp...I would love to see either of those guys on the Browns....Not sure where Justin Layne ended up on your chart, but he is another I would like to see drop to #49

Thanks, @IrishDawg42 . You're right - it was a lot of work. About two weeks worth. The 1st site was easy. Copy paste the entire board into a spread sheet and then delete the columns I didn't need. The rest was tedious as I had to match their O/A rankings with a player already in the spreadsheet.

Oddly enough, the hardest part was getting their positions right. Some sites lump all the CB's, FS's and SS's into a group they call DB. "EDGE" was another. Are they a 4-3 DE or a 3-4 OLB? In those cases, I had to do some additional research on every player that caught my eye to try and narrow it down. That's how I literally stumbled upon Michael Dieter. He was listed as a guard on one site and a center (or IOL) on others. In digging down, I found out he was actually considered to be a finalist for the Rimington Award. How in the hell can a guard be in the running for an award given to the nation's best collegiate center?

The end result was that, once I had a projected round assigned to each player, I could sort by position and get a visual representation of how many are available and approximately where they would be available. And that's where I finalized my draft strategy.

Now, going back to the depth chart and knowing how many guys would both fill a need and be in a draft spot that corresponds to their O/A ranking I would still go with Dieter at 2-17. Two reasons:
    • Tretter is in the last year of his contract and played most of last year through an injury. The only player sniffing a backup spot is Kyle Friend, a Reserve/Futures contract guy.
    • Corbett has yet to show he can hold down a starting position in the NFL -and- to my knowledge, has never played center.

Honestly Lym, I don't know where you found the Rimington Award info, but Dieter started at LT in 2017 and LG in 2018 for the Badgers, he did start at center in 2016 for 10 games...but their center has been Tyler Biadasz for the past two years since Tyler became a Badger and HE was a Rimington Award finalist and a favorite in 2019 to win it.

Everything I read is that Dieter is destined to be a guard in the NFL.

(edit) There are a lot of good centers in this draft...I'm thinking we get one in the 3rd/4th round.

2018: First-team All-America (FWAA, The Athletic), second-team All-America (AFCA, AP, Sporting News, Walter Camp, College Football News), Rimington-Pace Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year, first-team All-Big Ten (consensus)

    wikipedia:

Prior to the 2017 season, Deiter was named to the 2017 Outland Trophy[4] and Rimington Trophy[5] watch lists. Athlon Sports named him 2nd-team All-Big Ten.[6]

That's exactly what I tried to accomplish in the mock yesterday. Had a solid trade offer for Minnesota in an attempt to move up from 5th rd, but unfortunately they missed their pick, and I got autosniped. lol! What else is new?

Could be a blessing in disguise however. I was able to move up and grab DT Trysten Hill a bit later, whom I actually had rated higher than Pierschbacher anyway....

Trysten has visited the Browns, and I think he's definitely on Dorsey's radar. Dude is a baller....

That's exactly my point. Why spend assets to move up when there's a guy who fills multiple needs sitting right there where he should be sitting?

Look, I get it. He's not a sexy pick. He's JAG who can fill in for Tretter if he goes down or can fill in for Corbett if he flames out (again) or, worst case, can play OT if need be. By all means, spend the 2nd round pick on a DT when we're already two deep at that position.

I spent a 5th round and a mid 6th, to move up to the 4th for Hill...

Keep in mind. It's just a mock. I don't like to leave lists at all. So if I have plans and I know I won't be able to focus on my selection, I always deal up or down to a player or better time frame that works for me....

Regardless however, my plan with Cleveland was to be very aggressive. I'm not sure how many spots we have available for rookies, so I was going to go the quality over quantity route with the Browns anyway...

Honestly, I love the way this draft is coming together for them with Abram, Wilson, Henderson and Hill..Very happy with it so far. Still a couple picks to go.

    Not a bad draft...

I like this one better though...:boss:

    CLEVELAND BROWNS
2.17 JOHNATHAN ABRAM, S - MISS ST - Hands down, best Safety in the draft IMO. Love this pick, though I think it's unrealistic at this spot.
2.21 MACK WILSON, LB - ALABAMA - This was my original plan for 2.17. Had to deal a future 3rd to move up, but I think well worth it.
3.37 DARRELL HENDERSON, RB - MEMPHIS - No way will he be here, but I couldn't get a better RB value.
4.24 TRYSTEN HILL, DT - CFU - Tried to move up for a Center (Pierschbacher), and couldn't get it done. Settled for a player I like better anyway.
5.15 BOBBY EVANS, OL - OKLAHOMA - Ridiculous value here. Absolute no brainer...
6.2 JORDAN BROWN, CB - S. DAK. ST - Same as above.
7.24 (I'll let ya know, we still in early 7th. But I do have a specific target in mind for this pick since before draft started)

Traded Duke Johnson to BUF for 4(12) (then moved up a little for Henderson). Better RB, fraction of the cost.
Traded Carl Davis to PIT in move that helped me steal our future LT Bobby Evans...I suspect he'll be long gone before day 3

Honestly, I haven't taken a player yet for Cleveland that is outside of my top 100 players overall....So I'm actually expecting all these players to be off the board before the end of day 2...We'll see.

Truth be told, there were two guys available at 2.17 that I would have taken over Wilson. The other was Juan Thornhill. Stopper grabbed him up soon after I took Abram...
