I was thinking that would be the case... he's a great player and the Broncos done well without even being here, lol. LAOJoe was very thoughtful in that selection.
I was watching some Zach Allen tape last night, trying to figure out how he gets used best in the NFL. He’s not elite at any particular thing (maybe getting his hands up in the passing lanes), but he’s just a good football player. Perfect kind of guy for any rebuilding team to grab from the third round on.
I took him in the first last time. He is the most polarizing safety prospect in the draft and I was torn between him and David Montgomery last pick. I don't want him to start. I want him to learn behind Jenkins and McLeod and he's the type of safety I'm looking for so I am not as concerned about his negatives as others may be.
He wouldn't be on the board after this pick, but I knew bad things were happening when Joe trades in front of me. The Buffalo Bills select DE/OLB Jachai Polite, Florida
So much of what Gettleman does leaves me confused. I actually really like Shep. He's gritty and tough and blocks downfield. I think paying the man makes sense in a vacuum. But what the hell did they just give Golden Tate a big contract for if they had intended to keep Sheppard? I honestly figured when they signed Tate it was because they planned to let Sheppard walk. The Giants had, before this signing, like 100 million (roughly) in cap space next year. So I don't care so much about the price as I do with the idea that Shep and Tate are the long term WR duo...
I don't actually have a pick today so I haven't been paying too much attention. If I realized he was there I probably would have tried to make something happen also. Hell I wouldn't mind so much if the Giants took him at 37...
See my hunch is Gettleman ideally wants Shep/Tate to be 2/3, or 1b/2. I think he wants a #1 still. Just didn’t want it to be someone as flamboyant as OBJ.
I tried to trade up for Savage earlier because I thought he was he best fit for them in the draft but Hooker isn't too far behind.
I am certainly curious. There are a few players in this draft that look like they were created in a lab by Dave Gettleman. Montez Sweat is the first one. Hakeem Butler is the next. If I had to put money on it I would say it's Sweat at 6, Jones/O-lineman at 17, and Butler almost has to be a consideration at 37. If not him there are a few other guys I could see at 95 but they haven't been drafted here yet so I won't name names.
