    It's on, Will!

Mantha has cut the lead in half. I cannot stand to lose. I don't care that it gives the Sabres slightly better lottery odds on Tuesday. I don't care that I've had years' of losing experience. I hate to lose!

I do not hate the Red Wings. In fact it's closer to the truth to say I like 'em. Today, however, I want the Sabres to trounce them.

    Skinner #40

Yeah, 7-1 in the third. Skinner with 2 to reach 40. Rasmus Dahlin with his 9th. Even Gus Girgensons is in on the scoring.

Glad the team is finishing on a two game upnote after a brutal stretch.

Congrats, Dan... Buffalo took out some frustration last night. Good game for you guy's.

    I miss my team already.

Next season should be a different story for both of our clubs. Hoping anyways.

    A different story ...

This part is certain to be true for Buffalo since they just relieved HC Housley of his duties.

That's unfair in one sense because he was not given a playoff roster. On the other hand, how they played the second half of the season was not close to how good they should/could be. It's what happens when you disappoint to this level.

I keep hearing that the Avs are going to be good, but they barely hung onto a wild card spot this year, with Varlamov performing better than expected. Do we really expect that this team has the organizational depth to make the leap with the addition of a guy like Hughes or Kakko? Both phenomenally talented players, sure, and the team is absolutely crazy f***ing lucky to be in the position they are, but... are either of those guys the difference-makers? I don't feel confident saying that, yet.

im happy tanking works for some teams !

Name 1, where it worked. Im curious.

The 1st line is great, but coming down the stretch, Philipp Grubauer was a huge difference maker. They have decent talent now and I think a budding superstar pick, might propel them over the top, but I hope im wrong, because I still love to hate on the Avalanche.

    - They have Cale Makar coming in as soon as UMass is finished at the Frozen Four. He is considered the best NHL prospect not yet in the NHL.
    - They have, arguable, the best first line in hockey.
    - They have some young depth guys.
    - Grubs can be a starting G in this league, IMO.
    - Sakic has trade ammo to use judiciously if he wishes.

With Makar and this year's first from OTT then, yes, Colorado is poised to make a big step forward next year. They were - at best - inconsistent this season, which is common for a young team. But the way they played down to the stretch to get into the playoffs* was extremely impressive. (* In a normal year - especially in the WC - they would not have made the playoffs with their point total, but this year they were good enough for 8th in the WC.)

i meant getting a top player like the pens did with mario in 84 or malkin or even fleury. im sure the oilers tanked for mcdavid and the sabres did the same but got eichel. im sure the leafs went all tank for mathews. and perhaps the sabres for dahlin.

Cat, you need to edit your work here. The Pens traded for MAF and did not tank. The Oil got very lucky in the Lottery to get McDavid. I'm not nitpicking - just pointing out.

The Pens clearly tanked for Mario. The Sabres tanked and lost for McJesus, (fortunately #2 that year was + a normal #1). TOR sent a guy to LTIR at the deadline, which sure looks like tanking in the Matthews class.

I don't think the Sabres tanked for Dahlin - they were just bad enough (and lucky enough in the lottery) to "earn" 31st place. Regardless of what happens at the lottery tonight, no knowledgeable fan can accuse the Sabres of tanking this year. They traded a first and an A-prospect at the deadline to get better. The fact that it did not show in the standings does not change the fact that Buffalo did not tank this year.
