i hear ya. the package for him would need to be huge and bigger than the eric lindros deal. can't settle for anything less.

I don't think trading McDavid would go over well with the faithful. Unless they get Matthews in a package deal maybe.

Yes there was the need. It is summed up in one word: Melnyk.

Dan-would you be willing to trade Eichel and or Dahlin as part of a package to acquire McDavid ?

As a Flyers fan, any current player or prospect, except Carter Hart, could go for him from Philly.

No. Eichel is always going to be (unfairly) compared to McDavid since he was the consolation prize for who ever drafted #2 in 2015. But he is a completely different player, and he is - perhaps - a better team leader. Every team would want McDavid, but putting Eich into the conversation would create a hole for Buffalo almost impossible to fill.

Dahlin may prove to be the best defenseman ever born by the time he retires. The Oil has nothing remotely close on D to make it attractive to move him.

but that may be the asking price for McDavid. they wouldn't have to get back a defensemen. "best ever born?" I'm sure Bobby Orr is not ready to give up that title yet. haha.

Well, you asked if I'd make that trade. Real simple - you do not give up Rasmus Dahlin, even if McJesus comes to Buffalo.

Rasmus is 18 y.o., (happy 19th birthday on April 13!). He's a long, long way from expected retirement. I'll hold off saying anyone is clearly better until proven wrong.

Im still of the belief that 1 great player (superstar) takin in a draft does not equal success and the Edmonton Oilers are proof positive that tanking does NOT work. Why teams across the NHL cant see this is beyond me.

A leadership staff that can create, see and build chemistry and cohesiveness with a mix of youth and "the ol' vets" is the key to success in my opinion.

This has been a "Profound Statement"... from Willthethrill ! ;)

he has 1 season in the books. not much to go on yet.

it could've worked for them if they had a real GM who didn't trade Hall away for very little for starters !

What we already have on Rasmus Dahlin is a lot to go on. Has he proven that he is the best defenseman ever born? Obviously not yet. But, he has established that the claim is not insipid either. You just do not give up an 18 y.o. #1 defenseman.

  13. Catfish Guest

he better crank out a long, healthy and point producing career versus not trading for McDavid and others. I see your point of not trading a top #1 defensemen, who is also 18 years old. If it was another else in the league, i would say "no," but McDavid is a different case.

I do not want the Sabres to be a future version of the Oil. The reason the Oilers suck, for the most part, is they have no reliable D to speak of. I can see why they would want Rasmus, but Buffalo really does not need primary scoring*. They will get better as soon as their D prospects percolate up to being reliable NHL'ers, AND when they get more secondary scoring. (* Every team would love to have McDavid - but at what cost?)

The Oil are not going to trade McDavid, and if they did Buffalo is not a good trade match up.

If you have two equal players, you do not trade the defenseman for the forward. Defense is a more valuable position in this league, when comparing good, equal players. Whether you evaluate McDavid and Dahlin as equally talented players is a separate question.

If you only make good on less than half of your first round picks and none in the 2nd-7th you're toast

Look at the leafs, Hyman (7th), Johnsson (5th), Dermott (2nd), Kappnen 22nd overall).

in terms of play and in terms of value there is McDavid and then everyone else.

    Yeah, that's true.
But to put recent comments in context, I was asked if I'd trade Eichel AND Dahlin in a package for McDavid. That's not value.

  19. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

    i can understand that Dan.
either way i dont think the rumors of McD wanting out have any merit and its just water cooler talk from guys like us.

Yeah again. That's the important thing: the Oil is not going to trade McDavid.
