Hopefully, this moves the safety discussion to "who're we gonna draft in the early rounds to groom".

Damarious Randall has been pushing this one and tipped it on social media yesterday. Sounds like it should be announced any time.

    Burnett's PPF.com grades, for reference:

Absolutely!! If not for age, He might be an upgrade to Peppers.

I sure wish when PPF.com gives a position ranking they would include "out of how many". In this instance, 53 would be pretty good if they ranked 200. If they only ranked 55 . . . not so good.

My guess is that it is much closer to 200 than to 55...however, someone that only had 50 snaps could also be in the top 50, compared to someone like him that had 384

BTW that 384 is low...He is well beyond his healthy days of playing football. We will need a young guy to step in when he is unable to play.

Peppers had 764 and Kindred had 497 last year...

I was surprised to see he only had two starts in 2018, but I know Pittsburgh spent a high pick on SS with Edmunds.

I think still plenty left in the tank for MB...

I noticed that you had the word "whore" probably meant in the "click-bait whore" terms of usage as well as something from Mary Kay Ambulance Chaser in your post.

Now that the dust has somewhat settled in here - here's my take on the recent acquisitions and moves:
    • With the trade for Vernon and the signing of Richardson, the starting D-line is set. All of the remaining D-linemen will be competing for a backup/rotational role.
    • The downside to the Vernon trade is that it cost us our starting RG. It certainly appears as if they're ready to insert Corbett into that spot and, for the record, I'm not too comfortable with that based on how it played out last year with Corbett but I'm willing to take a "wait and see" approach and hope a years experience and a move to the right side works out for him.
    • There is no question that the trade for OBJ improved the WR corp by leaps and bounds. I'm not even sure that group even warrants further tinkering. (So what does John do today? Signs Damon Sheely-Guiseppi, a WR.)
    • The downside to the OBJ trade is that it cost us our starting SS out of a group that was already thin and then he went on and released Kindred. That was then somewhat mitigated by signing Morgan Burnett.
    • The trade for Eric Murray cost us a backup D-lineman. I'm not sure if Murray can be a starting CB (or even if he needs to be) so we got a backup CB and gave up a backup D-lineman. On the surface that looks like a wash except that, IMHO, this draft class is strong and deep with D-line talent whereas starting caliber CB's are relatively scarce once you get midway into the 2nd round.
Overall, it appears to me like Dorsey is attempting to fill the starter roles through trades and Free Agency and then fill the backup spots in the draft. A bit of a literal interpretation of last years "earn your stripes"!

    Well put...
If we draft a Safety at #49, I think it will surprise nobody. I'm with Irish in that I think maybe Burnett could be past his prime. Still a quality player, but obviously this isn't a long term answer...

Even though he wore an ugly ass helmet in college, I really like this Safety:

It's a stretch that he might still be on the board at #49, but if he starts to slide, might be worth a little move up.

Burnett is injury prone and plays like crap. Good luck with that. At his low contract nobody wanted to trade for him so the Steelers released him.

  19. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Well, that may be. I will not argue he might be prone to injury and getting worse at the age of 30..however, he has contended all along that the Steelers played him out of position the entire year he was there. They certainly didn't do themselves any favors if his skill set was strictly an in the box safety and played him mostly at nickel LB like he claims. Obviously I didn't watch as many Steelers games as you did, so I can't confirm or dispute his claims, but it is telling that he started asking/demanding the Steelers let him out of his contract due to position utilization as soon as the season ended. There was no market, because frankly, they misused him. He was available for at least 11 games last year and still had his worst production in his career since his rookie season.

Maybe we get what you got, maybe we get what Green Bay had...we shall see. I think we need a solid backup plan for sure.

FTR - I didn't want to get involved with the back and forth that was going on between yourself and TD, mainly because it appeared that there was a disconnect in the conversation.

When Dorsey made that series of moves (Ogbah/Kindred) it did appear to be a step in the opposite direction of everything else he had done up to that point. A much smaller step in comparison to the forward progress, but a sort of reverse side-step that appears on the surface to be lacking any real motivator other than getting one of 'his' players.

It will be interesting to see what he does in the draft for the secondary.
