Dallas sends a 2020 sixth-round pick to Miami for Quinn; deal is for $8 mil, plus incentives, and maxes out at $9 mil.
Mike McCarthy: Didn’t see firing coming... It wasn’t a surprise that things weren’t going well in Green Bay last year, and a change might be coming. But Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he was stunned by the way it happened. Asked by Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com if he had any indication that team president Mark Murphy was going to fire him, McCarthy said he didn’t. “Frankly, no I did not,” McCarthy said. “As a head coach, I’ve always tried to stay immune to and stand in front of all the outside noise. That was always my focus with my players. It was always to protect them as much as possible from the drama. I think that’s important. And I stayed true to that to the last day. If we missed the playoffs, I expected change might happen. “But the timing surprised me. Actually it stunned me. But time provides the opportunity for reflection and clarity and that’s where I’m at now. And it’s clear to me now that both sides needed a change.” McCarthy said that in the wake of his firing, his wife told him she was relieved, because of the toll the job had taken on him in recent years. She pointed out that it was clear he wasn’t happy, and that the job “beat the hell out of you the last couple of years.” Still, he thought he deserved a better ending.
Ryan Grant‘s free agency was a lot quieter this year than last year, but he has found his new team, in Oakland. The Raiders have signed Grant, a wide receiver who spent last year in Indianapolis, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Last year Grant signed a four-year, $29 million contract with the Ravens, a contract that was immediately met with derision because Grant’s career up to that point — four years as a backup in Washington — wouldn’t seem to justify that kind of contract. Then the contract was voided when the Ravens announced that Grant had failed his physical because of an ankle injury. After that Grant couldn’t find anything close to that kind of market, and he ended up signing a one-year, $5 million deal. He finished the season with 35 catches for 334 yards and one touchdown. Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Grant can earn a maximum of $2.5 million this season from the Raiders, and only if he hits incentives. Suffice to say he’s never going to get back the money he missed out on in Baltimore. In Oakland he joins a receiving corps that includes three other newcomers: Antonio, Tyrell Williams and JJ Nelson. Really like those throwback 80s-90s helmets, but god damn, you know you're getting too old when 90s becomes "throwback".
I see a knockoff version of the Eagles...who have had them for a few years now..Reminds me of arena league unis. The Browns did a similar thing and it has not gone over well at all. All of the "accents" look like the tail of a Nike swoosh. They will be changing these as quickly as possible, me thinks...
the Eagles are still trying to bring back their gang green unis for a few games. i know the fans would love to see them.
Morgan Burnett is staying in the AFC North... The former Steelers safety will sign on Friday with the Browns, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. Burnett is expected to compete with Eric Murray, the former Chief acquired in the Emmanuel Ogbah trade, for the strong safety job vacated by the trade of Jabrill Peppers to the Giants. In January, Burnett made it clear that he wants out of Pittsburgh. The Steelers tried to trade Burnett before releasing him on Monday. Now entering his 10th year in the NFL, Burnett spent his first eight NFL seasons with the Packers.
Ya it's definitely irking me a bit when I see the black kit. I don't mind their green helmets but the white helmets looked nice for them.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001025543/article/cowboys-demarcus-lawrence-agree-to-105m-deal Cowboys and Demarcus Lawrence got the deal done. $105 million 5 year deal
Former Cleveland receiver Ricardo Louis missed all of the 2018 season with a neck injury. He’ll continue his career in Miami. Per a league source, Louis has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Dolphins. Louis, who turned 25 last month, as a fourth-round pick of the Browns in 2016. He had 18 catches for 205 yards as a rookie, and 27 receptions for 357 yards in 2017. The former Auburn wideout ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds at the Scouting Combine, which gives Miami a potential deep threat in the team’s new-look offense, featuring a quarterback who can indeed get the ball down the field.
Stephen Gostkowski re-signs with the Patriots... The 49ers might have had some interest in kicker Stephen Gostkowski, but any notions of signing him to replace Robbie Gould will have to be put on ice. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Gostkowski has agreed to a new two-year contract with the Patriots. The deal comes after a report last week indicated the two sides were in a holding pattern on continuing their 13-year working relationship. Gostkowski has made 87.38 percent of his field goal tries over those 13 years with New England. That’s good enough for third place in NFL history — Ravens kicker Justin Tucker is first with Gould just ahead of Gostkowski for second place — and it works well as a short explanation of why the Patriots would just stick with what isn’t broken. Gostkowski was 27-of-32 on field goals and 49-of-50 on extra points for the Pats last season. He was No. 95 on PFT’s Free Agent Top 100 and his signing leaves 14 unattached players on the list. (PFT)
Eagles sign WR Charles Johnson to one-year contract... The Philadelphia Eagles brought aboard a trio of former Alliance of American Football players, and two come with notable accomplishments from the former league. The Eagles announced on Tuesday the signing of Charles Johnson, quarterback Luis Perez and wide receiver/returner Greg Ward to one-year deal. Johnson, most recently with the Orlando Apollos, headlines the group. The 6-foot-2, 217-pound Johnson led the AAF in receiving the entire season, totaling 687 yards receiving and five touchdowns on 45 catches in eight games. He originally entered the NFL in 2013 as a seventh-round pick with the Green Bay Packers. Johnson then had stints with the Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers and New York Jets before signing with the AAF, where he used the opportunity to put together good game tape. "I always knew I could play, play at a high level," Johnson previously told NFL.com. "I mean, unfortunately I've had a few injuries and things throughout my career in the NFL that's kind of pushed me back." A fully healthy Johnson now has the opportunity to carry over momentum in Philadelphia. Ward, who played for the San Antonio Commanders, returns for a second tour of duty after spending time with the Eagles from 2017 to 2018. The converted college quarterback won the AAF's Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 6 after recording a 79-yard punt return for a touchdown. Perez, who played for the Memphis Express, had a stint with the Los Angeles Rams in 2018. (per, PFT)
