Hell that's not saying much, Ben has only won two and they were in the first 6 years in the league..he hasn't won one in over 11 years and is now on the down swing, yet still collecting his big fat payday. I think the Steelers might be better off if they move on from Ben and get younger. Talk about a player being all about himself, Ben is the poster child.
Keeping on the subject, did you guys see enough of Mason Rudolph in the preseason to get any indication of what he brings to the table? Very curious what you all really think about him.
He was ok from the little I saw from him. He didn't do anything that made me think he's definitely the guy who will eventually replace Ben. If he wasn't better than Dobbs by the Raiders game I question his viability as Ben's future replacement. Dobbs was pretty crappy against the Raiders. Colbert seems to be really happy with him and his development so I'm hoping to see more of him this next preseason. If he can't replace Dobbs this season as the #2 QB then he was a wasted pick in my opinion.
Honestly, I didn't see any of the Steelers preseason games, so I didn't get a chance to see Dobbs or Rudolph
Dobbs actually looked pretty good in the pre-season. Rudolph was not ready, honestly looked like a QB picked in the 3rd round. Has the skills, needs time to get adjusted to the Pro game. Looked better as the pre-season went on, seemed to adjust a bit to the speed of the game. As for Dobbs Raider game, everybody was slacking that game, not going to hold that against him forever. It was a team effort to lose that game.
Rudolph was looking better every preseason game. I can’t wait to see how he looks this coming preseason. If he looks really good tell Ben to play out his contract and audios.
I’ll say it again young buckaroo. Ben hasn’t won anything since Cowhers players retired. This is Tomlin’s team now and has been for several years. As much as Brown and Bell are sh1theads I don’t remember so many players for one reason or another not wanting to be Steelers. Add Harrison and Burnett to that list.
There are only 11 other quarterbacks who have won multiple super bowls. That's pretty great. I definitely don't think Ben will win another won and I have consistently said that on this board in recent years. I've also said the future is now so get Mason Rudolph ready (they should start by making him the backup QB this year where he is only one play away from being the starter). Regardless, Ben plays the most important position on a team sport, has played through epic injuries, has never had a losing season in his 15 year career and has brought home the ultimate prize on two occasions. I am sure that commands more respect than the likes of AB and Bell. Having said that, Ben is arguably as selfish as AB and Bell, but no way is he as "soft" as AB or Bell. The toughness he displayed in carrying them to a couple of super bowls is legendary. Bell will probably be hurt and out for the year again soon or choose to sit out games again at some point, and AB is the new Ocho Stinko of the league - absolutely nuts - maybe he can Facebook Live while primping after games in the Oakland locker room when not showing up late for stuff, and acting crazy off the field or on the sidelines. He is not even running all his routes right these days. He is probably looking more forward to his next interview or advertisement, than his next game.
Ben had a losing season in 06 (7-8). He completely missed a win. Just wanted to chime in on that, still has had a great career though
Some are high on him, I'm not for now. The fact that he couldn't even win out the backup role is concerning to me. If he can't win it AGAIN this year at camp, I think people will REALLY begin to be upset about it. Five (5) QBs were taken last year in the first round........Rudolph was the next one taken early in the 3rd round by Pitt. Some teams reportedly had a late 1st, early 2nd round grade on him........meaning some viewed him as a possible long-term franchise/starting caliber QB, which is why I'm sure Pitt pulled the trigger and felt his potential was worth the risk. And it will be if he's the possible successor of Ben and they are able to make that transition work. But first you gotta be good enough to show you can play and not be relegated to holding a clip board. Pitt has been conservative with regard to its QBs and backup QBs in the past, so that is a factor. It was obvious the moment Ben came in to relieve Maddox when he went down with an injury week 2 that he was never going to be backup again that year, even if they ended up with them losing that game. Very similar to the noticeable change once Mayfield came into his first game this past season.
Very similar to the noticeable change once Mayfield came into his first game this past season I remember going to Farve's first start in 92 after Majik went down. You could just tell he was the man. We'll see about Rudolph. Hope he works out.
I doubt Mason is getting a fair shake. Tomlin is most likely holding him back so as to avoid drama ... but if so, that only creates more drama. Mason has his own QB coach he hired so that tells me he is not trusting the organization’s people solely. No Ben, No Win. Lmao - kidding, I have been saying let the Mason Rudolph era begin. It can’t happen soon enough imo. The Has-Ben is stale. Time to move on. Even a blind man can tell Rudolph is an upgrade from their current backup QB. Total mismanagement (which has become the norm) if Tomlin doesn’t make Mason the backup this year. I believe Tomlin is trying to avoid that moment when the Has-Ben gets hurt, Mason goes in and wins a game, and the fans want the future to start now. Tomlin and Ben are codependent.
The only way Ben redeems his legacy is with another super bowl win and by staying married and being a good husband / father. If that happens, I will be ecstatic. Techheart-simulated-probability of the super bowl win part happening: 1.8% I would love to see it, but it ain’t happening.
I think Pitt fans are going to wish Ben never left...yes he has made some poor decisions at times but the good definitely outweighs the bad...u don’t just replace a Big Ben..sorry
