Understood...but even if a deal is in the works, the ink isn't dry...are we expecting them to trade for TWO safeties? If not, then we could still use Kindred's skillset for the time being.

Wilks runs heavy Cover 3 and probably is looking to get faster at the position and away from the classic archetype. The "in the box" safety role is already starting to go the way of the dinosaur in the modern NFL.

    FWIW... here's Kindred's seasonal grades (per PFF.com):

I, for one, am going to miss the Ronnie Lotts and Eric Turners of the NFL.

    Yes you did. lol!
And I never put limitations on my statement regarding who may or may not be available at #49...

It was an exaggerated way of saying, I think we can replace Derrick Kindred fairly easily...

    But FTR

    Nassir Adderly
    Deionte Thompson
    Taylor Rapp
    Jonathan Abram
    Darnell Savage Jr
    Chauncey Gardner-Johnson
    Juan Thornhill
    Amani Hooker
    Amani Oruwariye
    Rock Ya Sin
    Lonnie Johnson

Not all SS, but I'd trade Kindred for any one of them in a heartbeat....Even have a couple CB's I'd convert over.

Me too...But ya can't play today's game the way they did.

Thanks, TD. I didn't realize that.

    Bingo.

No GM cuts a starter at $2 million unless there's something else going on, especially on a team hoping to compete and with money to throw around. Even if he's a backup, he's worth $2 million.

This should've been the reasonable assumption from the beginning.

Ah, buddy. I can only ignore so much ignorance of yours before I ill-advisedly jump in and try to create something meaningful out of your nonsense. I figured, since you keep rolling your eyes at $2 mil in today's NFL, I did have to explain economics. Maybe I was wrong! Here's to hoping!

So you took that personal? Geezus Christ...I was just making a statement.

    Your temperament does suck Lym...

TBH... Lott could still play in today's game. The hard hits would have to be coached out, but the dude had range. It's not to say "hard hitting safeties" can't play... it's guys who can't go sideline-to-sideline so they stay closer to the LOS.

Well, if that's the case, then I could start to understand depending on Wilks evaluation...NOW, why haven't they signed someone that can run Wilks system if that's the case? I don't think Kindred needs to be pigeonholed as an in the box safety btw. That is what they have used him as his entire career, but they have never used any of the SS's any other way since he's been here. Shouldn't you at least give him an opportunity to show you that he can't since there is no pressure at the moment to cut him? He didn't have a workout bonus they are trying to avoid. Right now you have Jermaine Whitehead competing with Jermaine Whitehead...If you sign/trade for someone that makes him expendable, then fine...right now, that isn't the case unless a trade is going to be announced soon.

Side line to side line wasn't the knock on Kindred coming out, and he was never asked to do it here. His straight line speed deep is where he was lacking, but even that we don't know, because he was never asked to do it.

Lott was All-Pro CB before converting to Safety...I'm sure everybody already knew that though. Hopefully I'm not stepping on toes.

    And there you have it....

The Browns are trading Emmanuel Ogbah and Jarvis Landry to the Cardinals for D.J. Swearinger and the trade includes a new contract extension giving him new money of 3 years $33M with $14M in guarantees...

Edit...apparently the Browns are also getting a 2019 3rd round pick and 2020 4th round pick
