What in the fuck is Dorsey doing????

So, as of now, we have ZERO strong safeties on this roster

I was gonna say the move was surprising, but over $2M for Derrick Kindred? Maybe not so much...I'm sure Dorsey has a plan.

It's not like that's an irreplaceable talent. Maybe we try to re-sign cheaper?

dude, this is the NFL...a starting caliber SS is going to cost more than $2M. He was still on his rookie contract, it ranked tied for 50th in safety salaries with 5 other guys.

I guarantee he isn't re-signing with the Browns for less money...and he will have a job in short order..Don't be surprised if he is picked up by a team in the AFC North.

What do you think your starting SS should be getting paid, and how much do you expect to save from that roughly $2 million salary that Kindred would've gotten paid?

  5. TopDawg Legend

Dude I think you over rate Derrick Kindred...he's only a "starting safety" because we traded our real starter

  6. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

He's started 17 games before we traded Peppers away...He has performed pretty well in those games as well. He isn't a stiff..

  7. TopDawg Legend

Probably 10 or 15 guys in this draft that can replace Kindred

  8. IrishDawg42 Legend Manager Browns Buckeyes Fighting Irish

Now I think you are over rating "prospects" vs. a man with actual NFL reps...hundreds of them...

Name me 10 guys that "can replace" a NFL player with 17 starts under his belt....Start with the guys that will be available at #49

I knew the conversation was headed here, and we can debate talent level all day long - but we can't debate salary.

A player taken in the top half of the second round will be paid around $1.5 to $2 million per year, on average.

Let's say Kindred was being paid $2.25 million this year (I don't know what it is, just "more than $2 mil", which usually means not much more).

How can you roll your eyes at any contributing player on your team being paid $2 million?

Regardless of whether you believe you can just get a body to replace Kindred...What has happened to the theory of needing depth to make a deep playoff run realistic?

First Kindred and now it looks like Ogbah as well... These two players have contributed to this team the past few years.

I want a team that I am confident in if a player goes down to injury...We have a 53 man roster for a reason, not a 25 man roster.

They've had him on the cheap paying him an average of around $700K per year his first 3 years...and will probably draft a guy for similar numbers...but as we all know, there are no guarantees with draft picks. If you get a liability, then you simply cannot play him...Kindred was not a liability which is what made him worth the $2.15M he was set to be paid in 2019.

Hell this team paid $16M, just for the right to cut a QB and gain a second round draft pick....

So having 17 starts under your belt automatically equates to a player we can't replace? That's good news for LOTS of players. lol! Has he ever stood out in a game? I'll pass on the assignment. I just think you are over-reacting a bit on Kindred. That's all...

No need to explain the economics of the NFL, okay d-line...Matter of fact, why don't you just go away? It's always a fuckfest whenever you get involved in the conversation....

CONSISTENTLY GOOD teams don't draft starters. They draft players who have the ability to compete (at first) for backup roles and develop into starters. That's exactly why Kindred was drafted in the first place and why Peppers became tradeable.

Methinks there may be something going on in Berea, behind closed doors, that we're simply not privy to.

I don't think Kindred is a stiff by any means...But I don't think he is anything special either.

  16. TopDawg Legend

    I'm certain of that.

How many of those happened during 1-31? Not blaming him for the record, just suggesting that perhaps on a better roster, he doesn't have 17 starts under his belt.

I'm not debating that he's a pro bowler...

As of the start of off season programs, with his release, we have ZERO strong safeties on this roster.. We no longer have a first round pick and the first two phases of free agency are over.

Unless we are A) trading Ogbah for a starting caliber SS AND B) drafting or signing a free agent, then there was no need to cut a player that has been up to the task of playing in the NFL and is not being over paid. That's all I am saying...

There in lies the crux of the conversation...As Lym already pointed out, we don't know what's going on in Berea behind closed doors.

I'm not saying the 17 starts makes him a player that can't be replaced, hell I would expect them to try to find someone to replace him or at least compete against him. YOU are under reacting, imho. We don't have a player on board to man the position, what sense does it make to cut him?

You can pass on the assignment, I didn't come up with it, you are the one that said there are 10-15 guys in the draft that can replace him...

Look, I don't want to argue with a Browns fan..I simply don't understand the usefulness of cutting him. Unless we have two guys on the roster within the next month, I still will not understand the usefulness of cutting him.
