Looking forward to 2019, Browns NFL Rookie Draft

Linebacker. I'm trading #49 and 2020 second round pick to get back into R1 and select Devin Bush.

I'd add OL and S as possibilities and as much as I like to bitch about the position, how about K while they're at it (although they're more likely to sign an undrafted guy or an unsigned vet).

tracking a bunch of "Joe Wannabes" on twitter with their draft projections and I keep seeing them trying to project 1st round corners falling to us in rd 2. It would be nice...but I don't see it.

Considering that, at this moment, we are basically only 1 deep at all three LB spots - the only rational 2nd round pick would be either ILB or OLB.

Only? That's a little extreme. How deep are we at S, CB, OT , EDGE and DT? I wouldn't rule any of those out at this point.

    SS - 2 deep: Randle / Whitehead
    FS - 2 deep: Kindred / Boddy-Cahoun (*)

    CB - 3 deep: Ward / Mitchell / Thomas
    Carrie / Wilson / Pipkins
    Nickle: Boddy-Calhoun (*) / Thomas / Pipkens
    DT - 2 deep: Oganjobi / Price
    Richardson/ Coley
    OT - 1.5 deep: Robinson / Harrison
Hubbard / a case could be made for RT. In the 2nd round?
EDGE - define "EDGE" Typically, this is a 3-4 OLB or a 4-3 DE. We don't run a 3-4 defense and we're 2 deep at DE.

    That ^^^^^ said . . .

Currently, we have 2 OLB (Kirksey and Avery) on the roster and 1 ILB (Schobert). That's it !!!

Doesn't mean that Dorsey doesn't have yet another rabbit or two in his hat before the draft. He's been pretty good at pulling rabbits out of the hat.

Not exactly accurate Lym, currently we have 7 Linebackers for 3 spots: What we really need is an upgrade at any of those spots to strengthen our depth.

    Linebackers

They just signed two of those guys late yesterday or this morning (Armstrong and Taylor).

Hines and Woodson-Luster are Reserve/Futures contracts. Basically Practise Squad candidates (as is Taylor).

So . . . We have 4 guys for 3 (6 counting depth) spots. And 1 of those 4 guys was (re-)signed AFTER it was determined that C.J. Mosely was signing with the Jets.

Nobody is asking you to change your mind. You asked a question - I answered it.

You want to count pulses? Go ahead. I'll count players.

I'm going with the curmudgeon on this one. I'm bundling #49 and a future to move up and get Devin Bush.

There's still a number of decent starting options available in free agency at the corner and safety spots. Dorsey is probably waiting to add a couple guys there in the second wave once prices come down.

The linebacker lists? Not so great.

For the first time since I can remember, the Browns have the opportunity to draft the way it should be done and select players, not for 2019, but for 2020 and beyond. If a player falls to us the 2nd round that can surplant one penciled in to the 22 starting spots, that would be great. But, IMHO, we dont need to maneuver around to target a specific player.

I think we all know where we are thin on depth. When #49 goes on the clock, take the BPA. If he happens to be an OG, ILB or SS, then pull the trigger and let him learn and develop for a year or so.

So are we going to fill those holes in the roster with free agents?

We just signed an OG/C depth in free agency. We could draft one in the second, but if they do, expect him to replace Bitonio next year...just forewarning you. If they target a center, I am ok with that.

Here is the LB/C expectancy for the NFL draft:

    Devin White ILB top 15
    Devin Bush ILB first round
    Juan Thornhill SS first round
    Garrett Bradbury OC first/early second
    Taylor Rapp SS early-mid/second

**most likely to get to #49
    Mack Wilson ILB 2nd round
Johnathon Abraham SS late 2nd/early 3rd

That's who you want to target. Every other LB is a pretty big project and could fall anywhere between the mid 2nd - 4th round
    Joe Giles-Harris ILB
    Germaine Pratt ILB
    Tre Lamar ILB
    Vosean Joseph OLB

    That's it for LBers/SS/OC

This isn't a strong draft for 4-3 OLBers...

All others would be 3rd round targets

At the moment, we have an NFL veteran penciled into all 22 starter slots. Are all 22 of them All-Pro's? Absolutely not. But all 22 of them are, at least, 1 year better than any 2nd round rookie. And, from all appearances, Dorsey does appear to be back filling depth with free agents.

I just have a feeling that Dorsey isn't approaching this draft with the mindset of bundling picks to move up. He's looking for players that will develop into starters one or two years down the road.

That's not to say if a stud (regardless of position) drops into his lap at #47, he won't pull the trigger. He should !!! But, I think he's looking for players that fit his "succession plan".

I don't think Dorsey is done with free agency, I think he is waiting for the second wave, where guys actually get signed at their worth.

Honestly, if Bush makes it to the low 20's, which I don't think he does..I would start calling each team on the clock and offer up #49 and my 2020 2nd round pick. I believe he could really help this defense now and into the future. I think he could play MLB or WLB, and he's only 20 years old.

I don't see him making it past PIT, though if he does I'd try and do this deal.
