He still helps them, in my opinion, Cat. With the attention on Jackson, Agholor will see more options maybe... besides, Wentz needs targets. I like LAOJoe's descriptive word, 'consistency'.
Saints snag Malcom Brown... The Saints have found a use for some of the cap space they created by restructuring quarterback Drew Brees‘ contract. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the team has come to an agreement with defensive tackle Malcom Brown. It’s reportedly a three-year deal worth $15 million. Brown was a Patriots first-round pick in 2015 and won a pair of Super Bowl rings during his four years with the team. Brown appeared in 60 regular season games over that span and heads to New Orleans with 186 tackles, 8.5 sacks and a forced fumble on his career stat sheet. Sheldon Rankins, David Onyemata and Tyeler Davison led the Saints in playing time at defensive tackle last season. Davison is a free agent while Rankins tore his Achilles in the NFC title game and Onyemata faces a possible suspension after a marijuana possession citation, so Brown should find early playing time in his new home one way or another. Saints D might be a better fit for Brown. He played well at times but disappeared for long stretches, too.
Raiders release Jordy Nelson... Golden Tate signing with Giants.... https://6abc.com/sports/report-eagles-wr-golden-tate-headed-to-new-york-giants/5193205/
Teddy Bridgewater chooses the Saints, after all... Teddy Bridgewater initially decided to re-sign with the Saints. Then he reconsidered. Now he has re-reconsidered. Per multiple reports, the Saints have signed Bridgewater, who will return for a second season with the team. The decision comes a day after Bridgewater officially visited the Dolphins. According to ESPN, Bridgewater will sign next week a one-year, fully-guaranteed contract worth $7.25 million. Miami was in position to offer him the starting job with an asterisk; if they draft a quarterback, Bridgewater may not have been the starter for long. In New Orleans, Bridgewater could in theory succeed Drew Brees as the starter, if Brees leaves after 2019 and if coach Sean Payton stays. Also, Bridgewater presumably will take over during the 2019 season, if Brees were to be injured. A first-round pick in 2014 of the Vikings, Bridgewater suffered a serious knee injury days before the start of the 2016 season. He became healthy again in 2017, remained on the bench most of the year, and then signed with the Jets as a free agent. The Jets traded him to the Saints for a third-round pick after the Jets drafted Sam Darnold. Bridgewater likely left money on the table by not joining the Dolphins, but a decision that may have been better for him in the short term may not have been better in the long term, especially if the Dolphins struggle this year — and/or if they use their first-round pick on a quarterback. Everson Griffen strikes deal to stay with Vikings... When the Vikings struck a deal with linebacker Anthony Barr to stay with the team earlier this week, there was word that defensive end Everson Griffen‘s spot on the roster might be in danger as a result. The Vikings came into the offseason without much cap room and Griffen was reportedly facing a decision about reworking his deal or being released. It appears he’s decided on an answer to that question. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Griffen, whose $10.9 million salary was set to be guaranteed this afternoon, has revised his deal in order to remain in Minnesota. Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports he will make around $8 million. Griffen missed five games last season while dealing with mental health issues that led him to be hospitalized following an incident that required police intervention. He returned to action and recorded 5.5 sacks in 11 overall appearances
Jesse James “glad to get away” from Steelers drama... After the end of the Steelers’ 2018 season, tight end Jesse James compared the drama that enveloped the team over the course of the year to something one might see on a TV show starring the Kardashians and the topic came up at his first press conference as a member of the Lions. James said he enjoyed his time playing for the Steelers, but admitted to being “glad to get away” from the drama. He added that the Antonio Brown trade “had to happen” because things were “out of control” by the end of the season. That’s in James’ past and he also talked about what’s to come in the future. He said he felt he had some success offensively with the Steelers, but thought his role and his production will be bigger now that he’s in Detroit. “I think it could have been better,” James said, via the Detroit News. “Offensively, I wasn’t used the way I feel I could be used here. I feel like my ceiling is much higher here than it was in the past.” The Lions talked a lot about getting better at tight end this season and James was the player they chose to lead that effort. That should give him plenty of opportunities to make good on his feeling that he can do more than he did in Pittsburgh. (PFT) _________ ________________________ The Steelers have imploded and that's a shame for their fanbase. Lots of Steelers fans here on this site must be wondering whats going on.
Do they grease light poles in Cleveland or is that just a Philly thing? Cause they will need to grease some light poles.
my brother in law, who is an old time Steelers fan, sees it differently. he's happy to be rid of bell and brown. he wanted their drama out of pittsburgh so the team can win without them and move forward. to me to let go of or trade the 2 of the best players in their respective positions and not get better value back is a loss in my opinion. many teams have pain in the ass players on them. doesn't mean you get rid of all of them. now i know in pittsburgh it was different and both bell and brown wanted out of dodge, but damn, i hope it was all worth it when connor is double teamed in the box and JuJu can't get open bc he has the 2 guys marked for Brown on him now?
I have been making this same damn argument with Giants fans who are stupid enough to think moving Odell is a smart play. Odell Beckham (like AB) is a force multiplier. He makes everyone else on the offense better simply by being on the field and having to be accounted for. The Giants (even with Tate -- what a stupid signing) don't have anyone that is going to require defensive coordinators to worry about. So that ground based attack they want to run now with an amazing but wildly inefficient RB is going to be looking at 8 man boxes on basically every snap. Barkley+Beckham was two force multipliers and a dangerous combination. Barkley + ??? is not a receipe for offensive success. I expect to see such wildly varied play calls as, run to the left, followed by shutgun draw, and the ever elusive WR screen on 3rd and 9.
I'm truely torn about what's going on in Pittsburgh. As a fan of the NFL, it's sad to see what can happen to a proud and consistently successful franchise because of a few knuckleheads. Not that they're out of it because of recent events. There's STILL a lot of talent on that roster. However, as a Browns fan, I hope and pray they go through a 20 year stretch like Browns fans have endured.
