The Steelers offseason

Hope you're right, but White may go top-10 (Roquan Smith went #8 overall last year to Bears as top ILB), and if he does I don't see Bush making it past Cincy, Miami, and Washington. We're fortunate the Giants have the Browns pick after they released Jaime Collins, and Anthony Barr resigned with Minnesota. Otherwise we'd likely have to move up just to have a shot at Bush, and we may still have to.

Other possibility I like if both are gone is to take top corner or wideout available at #20, then try to move up from 2nd round to late 1st or early 2nd and take Mack Wilson (ILB-Bama) depending on how he looks at his pro-day. Problem is that may be risky as well and he may not be available either. They are the consensus top-3 ILB, all 3-down great athletes and those don't grow on trees. Last year the top-3 ILB (R. Smith, Vander Esch, and Rashaan Evans) went #8, #20, and #22 overall. There's no guarantee Wilson even gets to late 1st if he tests well in a couple weeks. If we don't have White/Bush available to us and we go corner/receiver, there's no guarantee we'll have another starting caliber ILB to choose from and we could risk not addressing that position in the offseason for the second year in a row. I hope they consider that unacceptable, the fan base certainly would.

I'll wait to see details, but I HIGHLY DOUBT that $35 mil is truly "guaranteed", but rather $20 million or so in signing bonus, and another $10-15 mil in roster bonuses, or a portion of year-2 base salary guaranteed. Kind of like...................PITTS OFFER last summer. :wall:

Pretty disappointing so far. Losing Brown for essentially nothing when you look at what the Giants got for Beckham.

Couldn't do much about Bell. Now it's clear that the Steelers valued him more than anybody else did. He thought he was going to reset the RB market. He didn't even match the salary of Gurley.

Most disappointing to me so far is that Colbert admitted they had made an error in not doing more to replace Shazier. It appears they still have no plan. Maybe they feel like their guy is in this draft class. Good luck getting that guy with the 20th pick. Jordan Hicks is a pretty good ILB compared to what we currently have. He was signed for 9 million per season.

The Steelers bring back Chickillo for 2 years 4 million per year. More wasted money at OLB. They are already slated to pay Dupree 9 million this season at OLB. Dupree should be sent packing with Burns. Steelers wasted first round picks with both guys. Quit wasting money and move on.

Two positives from the Nelson signing.
    1) Nelson will be a big upgrade over anybody else on the roster the Steelers currently have to pair with Haden.
    2) The Steelers have proven they have zero ability to evaluate and draft defensive backs. Signing Nelson should assure that the Steelers won't waste their first round pick on a defensive back.

On a per year basis, he didn't even exceed David Johnson in Arizona!

And prior to Anthony Barr backing out of his contract with the Jets leaving them with a more money they were only offering 4yrs, 48M. He would have even more egg on his face if Barr doesn't go back to Minnesota because that was the best offer on the table.

That is hilarious. I would have loved to of been there to see his reaction when he saw the offers he had to chose from on Monday.

Lucky for Bell the Browns and Giants made the OBJ trade and it diverted attention from Bell's huge mistake!

Ben is going to be signing a new deal very soon. I'm hoping he takes a team friendly deal. The Steelers have a bunch of holes to fill. If he takes a typical giant QB payday the Steelers might as well tell the fans to forget about competing for a title anytime soon.

Raiders signed WR Tyrell Williams, another player the Steelers were targeting. At least they were inquiring about, not positive about how interested they were

Here is a possibility nobody seems to want to look at with Bell. Maybe it was never about the money maybe he just didnt want to play for the Steelers any longer. I know some fellow steelers fans will consider that blasphemy but if it was about the money he did not have to sign yet he could have waited a few more days to try and find a better deal as the dust settled.

Maybe the Steelers should consider not extending Ben. Yes in some ways its crazy talk but if they honestly believe Rudolph is the successor then role with him and build around him while eh has a cap friendly rookie contract.

I don’t believe Ben can win another SB. He’s too much like the older Favre.

Eric Berry is available...has the injury history to intrigue the Steelers ;)

Rumor has it that OBJ was traded now to get maximum trade value back instead of waiting for him to go into Mr Big Chest mode within next couple of seasons. Also hates playing with Eli. Perhaps the NYG saw the writing on the wall after witnessing what our beloveds went thru with Brown.

I'll bet the chances of that are near ZERO. Ben had a chance to do that years ago before the cap began climbing each year, the team was in worse shape financially then it is now, and it didn't happen. Likely not gonna happen this time either. And when we are in the same position because our underwhelming (as a professional worker) and less than dedicated is making close to Rodgers money and carrying a $30 mil/year cap hit, he will deserve all the universal condemnation from Steeler Nation that they throw his way. I won't spare any criticism, because it will mean he truly doesn't want to do all he can to help the team win. Guy has made over $200 million in career earnings, yet in the twilight and after LEADING THE LEAGUE IN INTs LAST SEASON, he may still want to be among the highest paid at his position one final time, even it it hamstrings the team once again.

I feel somewhat similar but my only change would be this:
Ben cannot carry this team on his shoulders but the Steelers are capable of winning with a team concept focused on a balanced offense and defense tbat can stop teams late in games.

Man I wish I knew. Does Colbert?

They do have the oline and RBs in place. Tbey just have to use them more.

  20. It started w Nelson(upgrade), Edmunds another year of experience, NFL draft should focus on D, a WR and OL depth
