good points. i bet 31 other teams wish they called the Giants to make an offer...

Giants are probably still in better shape than the Jets though.

Might not necessarily be a bad thing. I mean, it'll suck to have to go through another year of dreck, but it might be better in the long-run.

Don't even bother with the QB this year - address other needs, whether that's O-line, DE, WR. If you're a 3-13/4-12 team, then NEXT year you can take your franchise QB.

Be a great wager for Vegas. Right now ... I think I'm leaning toward the Jets as being better.

So who is the best FA still available at this moment? Earl Thomas?

Jets might win more games in 2019. But they aren't making the playoffs I don't think.

But for the next 3-5 years....I like the position the Giants are in to reload.

Jets, in my opinion, ruined any chances to be a legit franchise when they hired Adam Gase. That move still baffles me.

How are we judging "better shape?"

The Jets are on the upswing. They have their franchise QB and brought in some help for him. They overpaid Mosley but he is a tone setter on that defense. Adam said "this team needs more dogs" so they went out and got him one.

The Giants Let their best defensive player walk, traded the next best defensive player, then traded the best player they have had since LT. They are (currently) putting all of their eggs in the Eli Manning basket. A gift that the rest of the NFC East loves. They may in 2 - 3 years be in better shape than the Jets but the Jets should be a competitive team this season. I saw Peter King say the Giants are basically an expansion roster with a 38 year old QB at this point. Which feels about right.

Just a reminder - because so many things have been reported regarding Bell's deal - here's what Rapoport said last year when the deadling passed...

I neglected to consider the Gase factor. Though you could argue Shurmer is no better.

Agree 100%. Giants will have to hit on a QB, though.

    That's who I'd put #1 right now.

Gase, in my opinion, is a joke of a coach. He's one step behind what is trending in the NFL....he's way too conservative and doesn't know how to attack defenses vertically. His offense is a joke to me and it hasn't mattered who is running it. The fact he brought Dowell Loggains with him to NY just makes it worse.

Bell is a nice signing but he doesn't seem to me like a guy that is fully invested in winning. I just judge that off of what transpired the past year. I don't see that playing out well with a team that isn't likely to overtake the Patriots anytime soon. How does Bell conduct himself if that team isn't winning games when he proved he couldn't commit to a team that actually had a chance to win games?

The Giants have unloaded some really good players but they've also added some pretty good draft capital. They aren't putting their eggs in the Manning basket...they obviously gotta know it's time to find a successor. OBJ is a phenomenal player...he's also had some injury problems and can be a headache. They are in position to transition the locker room and make a culture change once they have a new QB at the helm. Granted...it's all based on how well they draft.

If I were a head coach or GM and could pick a spot between running the Jets or the Giants....I'd choose the Giants based on the upside.

The reason OBJ went so cheap is because there is drama with his situation and the more they delay, the more they get Antonio Brown value. His value peaked unless the drama went down and at that point you don't trade him... and do you really think the drama would go down?

They got scared into this trade by Antonio Brown and it may have unfortunately been the right move. Although they are not free of blame. The last 2 years of ineptitude on and off the field is what led to it.

I'd take Shurmur over Gase. Shurmur isn't going to embarrass you, Gase will.

I just don't understand the fabrication of "drama" with Beckham. He's not really a distraction. The players love him, he works his ass off, leaves everything on the field and OMG he actually speaks the truth when others are afraid to. He isn't creating problems in the locker room he makes the locker room stronger. But old white guys can't get over the fact he is on Instagram and, you know, cares. There is no ACTUAL drama around OBJ just fabricated media nonsense that gets clicks.

Drama is still drama, even if it's not directly by him. It's about leverage. Good luck having any going forward to even get a 1st.

He's been suspended for an on field fight. He's called out his QB in interviews. Even though he was right....that doesn't sit well in the NFL.

You don't tell reporters you are being outschemed or your QB can't get the ball to you down the field. That's something that should stay in the film room or on the practice field.

There's not drama to the level of a Ray Rice or Kareem Hunt....but there's definitely more talk about Beckham off the field than there needs to be and he isn't innocent in all of that.

The interview with Little Wayne was stupid but I don't think it was incendiary. But hey that's just me. I don't actually care about a BS ESPN interview.

He was suspended for protecting himself when the refs and his own damn coach wouldn't. Was it stupid? Absolutely. It was also 3 seasons ago. The only other on field thing that has happened was a 15 yard penalty for acting like a dog the week the entire NFL was up in arms about the President calling the players dogs. Oh and that passion sparked his team who was lifeless before he scored that TD and made that gesture. This is the thing you can make something of these things -- but his teammates don't. He isn't a distraction for the PLAYERS. And if you don't want a player talking about being out schemed maybe you should do your damn job as a coach / GM.

Nor do I. But teams do. Coaches do. And teammates might even if they don't admit it to the media.

Again, I agree with you. But I think you have to admit those things matter to owners, executives, and coaches.

How often do you see a player that calls out coaches or other teammates in interviews and actually see that situation end well? Even when they are right about what they are saying....it's typically never a good thing.

I would take OBJ on my team in a heartbeat. But there is some baggage that comes with it. Even if he isn't purposely causing it. And that baggage can take a toll on a locker room even when the players in it are supportive of the player with the baggage.
