Ravens have lost Smith, Mosely, and Suggs. I thought Suggs would retire rather than go play someplace else. Dude must need money or just love to play football. Browns and Colts have a lot of cap space but they are pretty quiet. Jets and Raiders are spending. Packers have been surprisingly active so far. I've read that the Steelers lost Brown and Bell. Bell has been gone for a year. Bell has yet to sign. It'll be interesting to see how much he gets. The way teams are throwing money around I am thinking Bell is going to get somewhere near 50 million in guaranteed money. Maybe 5 years 80 million and 50 guaranteed.
Browns have acquired Olivier Vernon and Sheldon Richardson..not sure that is exactly quiet. It's just smarter than spending $17M per year on Mosely.
Another player many hoped the Steelers would target is off the market: Jorden Hicks signed with the Cardinals
I agree with you. Browns and Colts look like two teams that have a plan. They both have an enormous amount of cap space. Now that Hicks and Mosely are gone is there a free agent LB left that could help the Steelers to better replace Shazier? Steelers need some depth at OLB. I also think they need some depth at RB.
Apparently that big splash is going to be another toe dip at the end of free agency...Hicks, Alexander, Mosely are all gone so now they have a glaring need heading into the draft. ILB is pretty much bare now. Still some good options at CB available though.
Roby headed to the Texans on a 1 year, $10 million deal. Steelers made a 3 year offer, but Roby wants to sign a prove it deal and hit the market again next year.
Thats what it looks like. I know its only the 2nd day but damn it seams like the FO took a vacation...they made an offer for Roby, wonder if they will make a play for Darby or Desir.
Steven Nelson agreed to a 3-year, $25.5 million deal with the Steelers. I guess that’s their splash signing.
For a player with questionable off the field behavior including a video where there may or may not have been some drug use going on.
Because it looks like they're in south Florida at Pirates spring training before Clemson's Pro Day tomorrow..........while many of the league GMs are wheelin' and dealin'. I know they're perfectly capable of conducting business (and probably did a good chunk of the day), but man that didn't provide good optics. So disappointing. If Nelson is their biggest move this offseason........and it looks like right now it will be..........that is infuriating. For one million more a year you could have signed Hicks and done a lot more to "fix" the defense then the 33rd ranked corner in the league on one of the worst passing defenses in football. You can't sit on $20+ mil, with another $5-10 likely coming in next couple days, and be unwilling to make competitive bids for STARTING CALIBER free agents that can actually fill a need immediately. That costs.............$10-12+ million a year now. Hicks signed a 4-year, $36 million contract with the 3-13 Cardinals. You can't get premium free agents on the cheap anymore. We need to stop thinking we can buy $3 stocks that will increase to $20. We have three dire needs on this team right now..............ILB, DB, and WR, with a soft #4 at free safety, and I don't think we'll address any of those definitively from now until the draft. I know Nelson is what THEY project and hope to be a starting outside corner going forward, but is it truly definitive.............or just competition and an upgrade over the mediocre AT BEST revolving door at the corner position we have across from Haden? You can address two of the three needs in the draft given our position and draft capital, but I'm not sure you're going to nail 3 starting caliber rookies to come in and give significant contributions right away. They really............REALLY better be ready to move up if need be for White/Bush in round #1 cause I'm not sure either will last til #20, or possibly in 2nd round to early 2nd or late first round and maybe take ILB Mack Wilson(?)..........otherwise it will be the same sad affair in the middle of our defense again next season.
Nelson is a huge upgrade at CB...I bid on him at about the exact same time it became official that he signed w Pitt...I only waited until the evening cause I was going to offer 4 yrs $20M but then said F it it’s play $ so went 4 yrs $24M....Bush will be there at #20 but White is a lot better so moving up if for some reason Cincy doesn’t take him is ideal...I still like my top 3 picks I gave last week...Pitt would be much improved w that talent infusion
#20 Devin Bush if no trade up for Devin White Move up late 1st round and get Marquise Brown and #62 draft Justin Layne
